- Kapitel 24 -

During his days, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, ascended, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years. And again he rebelled against him.

And the Lord sent to him the robbers of the Chaldeans, and the robbers of Syria, and the robbers of Moab, and the robbers of the sons of Ammon. And he sent them into Judah, so that they might destroy it, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken through his servants, the prophets.(a)

Then this occurred, by the word of the Lord against Judah, that he took him away from before himself because of all the sins of Manasseh which he did,

and because of the innocent blood which he shed, and because he filled Jerusalem with the slaughter of the innocent. And for this reason, the Lord was not willing to be appeased.

But the rest of the words of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah? And Jehoiakim slept with his fathers.

Jehoiachin Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 36:9–10)

And Jehoiachin, his son, reigned in his place.

And the king of Egypt no longer continued to go out from his own land. For the king of Babylon had taken all that had belonged to the king of Egypt, from the river of Egypt as far as the river Euphrates.

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem.

And he did evil before the Lord, in accord with all that his father had done.

The Captivity of Jerusalem

(Lamentations 1:1–22)

At that time, the servants of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, ascended against Jerusalem. And the city was encircled with fortifications.

And Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, went to the city, with his servants, so that he might fight against it.

And Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his leaders, and his eunuchs. And the king of Babylon received him, in the eighth year of his reign.

And he took from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the house of the king. And he cut up all the gold vessels which Solomon, the king of Israel, had made for the temple of the Lord, in accord with the word of the Lord.

And he carried away all of Jerusalem, and all the leaders, and all the strong men of the army, ten thousand, into captivity, with every artisan and craftsman. And no one was left behind, except the poor among the people of the land.

Also, he carried away Jehoiachin into Babylon, and the mother of the king, and the wives of the king, and his eunuchs. And he led into captivity the judges of the land, from Jerusalem to Babylon,

and all the robust men, seven thousand, and the artisans and craftsman, one thousand: all who were strong men and fit for war. And the king of Babylon led them away as captives, into Babylon.

And he appointed Mattaniah, his uncle, in his place. And he imposed the name Zedekiah upon him.

Zedekiah Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 36:11–14; Jeremiah 52:1–3)

Zedekiah held twenty-one years of life when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah, from Libnah.

And he did evil before the Lord, in accord with all that Jehoiakim had done.

For the Lord was angry against Jerusalem and against Judah, until he cast them away from his face. And so Zedekiah withdrew from the king of Babylon.

Juda wird von Feinden überrannt

In seinen Tagen zog Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, herauf und Joakim wurde ihm drei Jahre lang untertan; alsdann lehnte er sich wiederum auf gegen ihn.

Da ließ der Herr wider ihn Streifscharen von den Chaldäern und Streifscharen aus Syrien und Streifscharen aus Moab und Streifscharen der Söhne Ammons kommen und sandte sie gegen Juda, um es zu verderben, nach dem Worte des Herrn, das er durch seine Diener, die Propheten, gesprochen hatte.

Es geschah dies aber durch das Wort des Herrn wider Juda, dass er es aus seiner Gegenwart entfernte, um aller Sünden Manasses wegen, welche er begangen,

und um des unschuldigen Blutes willen, das er vergossen, so dass er Jerusalem mit dem Blute der Unschuldigen erfüllt hatte, und darum wollte der Herr sich nicht versöhnen lassen.

Was aber sonst von Joakim zu sagen ist und alles, was er getan hat, steht das nicht geschrieben in den Jahrbüchern der Könige von Juda? Und Joakim entschlief zu seinen Vätern,

und Joachin, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

Der König von Ägypten aber zog fortan nicht mehr aus seinem Lande; denn der König von Babylon hatte alles weggenommen vom Strome Ägyptens bis an den Fluß Euphrat, was dem Könige von Ägypten gehört hatte.

Die Herrschaft und Gefangenschaft Jojachins

Achtzehn Jahre war Joachin alt, als er zu herrschen begann, und drei Monate herrschte er in Jerusalem; der Name seiner Mutter war Nohesta, eine Tochter Elnathans aus Jerusalem.

Er tat, was vor dem Herrn böse war, ganz wie seine Väter getan.

(Klagelieder 1,1-22)

In jener Zeit zogen die Knechte Nabuchodonosors, des Königs von Babylon, gegen Jerusalem herauf und die Stadt ward mit Belagerungswerken eingeschlossen.

Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, zog mit seinen Knechten gegen die Stadt heran, um sie zu belagern.

Da begab sich Joachin, der König von Juda, zu dem Könige von Babylon hinaus, er selbst, seine Mutter, seine Diener, seine Fürsten und seine Kämmerer; und der König von Babylon nahm ihn im achten Jahre seines Reiches gefangen.

Die Gefangenschaft von Jerusalem

Auch nahm er von dort alle Schätze des Hauses des Herrn und die Schätze des königlichen Hauses weg und zerschlug alle goldenen Geräte, welche Salomon, der König von Israel, im Tempel des Herrn gemacht hatte, nach dem Worte des Herrn;

und er führte ganz Jerusalem und alle Fürsten und alle Tapfern des Heeres, zehntausend, fort in die Gefangenschaft, dazu alle Werkleute und Schlosser; und nichts blieb zurück, als das arme Volk des Landes.

Auch Joachin führte er nach Babylon weg, sowie die Mutter des Königs und die Frauen des Königs und seine Kämmerer; und die Richter des Landes führte er von Jerusalem in die Gefangenschaft nach Babylon,

zudem alle starken Männer, siebentausend, und die Werkleute und die Schlosser, tausend, alle tüchtigen und kriegsgeübten Männer: diese führte der König von Babylon als Gefangene nach Babylon.

Zedekia regiert in Juda

Und er setzte Matthanias, den Bruder seines Vaters, an seine Statt und gab diesem den Namen Sedekias.

(2. Chronik 36,11-14; Jeremia 52,1-3)

Einundzwanzig Jahre war Sedekias alt, als er zu herrschen begann, und elf Jahre herrschte er in Jerusalem; der Name seiner Mutter war Amital, eine Tochter Jeremias aus Lobna.

Er tat, was böse war vor dem Herrn, ganz wie Joakim getan hatte.

Denn der Herr war wider Jerusalem und wider Juda erzürnt, bis er sie von seinem Angesichte verwarf; und Sedekias fiel von dem Könige von Babylon ab.
