- Kapitel 25 -

(2 Chronicles 36:15–21; Jeremiah 39:1–10)

Then it happened that, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, he and his entire army, arrived against Jerusalem. And they encircled it, and they constructed fortifications all around it.

And the city was enclosed and besieged, even until the eleventh year of king Zedekiah,

on the ninth day of the month. And a famine prevailed in the city; neither was there bread for the people of the land.

And the city was breached. And all the men of war fled in the night along the way of the gate which is between the double wall at the garden of the king. Now the Chaldeans were besieging the city on all sides. And so Zedekiah fled along the way which leads to the plains of the wilderness.

And the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. And all the warriors who were with him were dispersed, and they abandoned him.

Therefore, having apprehended him, they led the king to the king of Babylon at Riblah. And he was speaking with him in judgment.

Then he killed the sons of Zedekiah before him, and he dug out his eyes, and he bound him with chains, and he led him away to Babylon.

The Temple Destroyed

(Jeremiah 52:12–23)

In the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, the same is the nineteenth year of the king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, the leader of the army, a servant of the king of Babylon, went into Jerusalem.

And he set fire to the house of the Lord, and to the house of the king. And the houses of Jerusalem, and every great house, he burned with fire.

And the entire army of the Chaldeans, which was with the leader of the military, tore down the walls of Jerusalem all around.

Then Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, carried away the rest of the people, who had remained in the city, and the fugitives, who had fled over to the king of Babylon, and the remnant of the common people.

But he left behind some vinedressers and farmers from the poor of the land.

Now the pillars of brass which were in the temple of the Lord, and the bases, and the sea of brass, which was in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke apart. And they took all the brass to Babylon.

Also, they took away the cooking pots of brass, and the scoops, and the forks, and the cups, and the little mortars, and all the articles of brass with which they were ministering.

And the leader of the military even took away the censers and the bowls, whatever was of gold for the gold, and whatever was of silver for the silver,

and also the two pillars, the one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the temple of the Lord. The brass of all these items was beyond measure.

One pillar had eighteen cubits in height. And the head of brass upon it was three cubits in height. And the network and pomegranates upon the head of the pillar were all of brass. And the second pillar had a similar adornment.

Captives Carried to Babylon

(Jeremiah 52:24–30)

Also, the leader of the military took away Seraiah, the chief priest, and Zephaniah, the second priest, and three doorkeepers,

and from the city, one eunuch, who was in charge of the men of war, and five men out of those who had stood before the king, whom he found in the city, and Sopher, the leader of the army who trained the young soldiers from the people of the land, and sixty men from the common people, who had been found in the city.

Taking them, Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, led them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

And the king of Babylon struck them and killed them at Riblah, in the land of Hamath. And Judah was taken away from his land.

Gedaliah Governs in Judah

(Jeremiah 40:1–16)

But over the people who had remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had permitted, he appointed as ruler Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.

And when all the commanders of the military had heard this, they and the men who were with them, specifically, that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah, they went to Gedaliah at Mizpah: Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth, the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah, the son of a Maacathite, they and their companions.

And Gedaliah swore to them and to their companions, saying: “Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Remain in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.”

The Murder of Gedaliah

(Jeremiah 41:1–10)

But it happened that, in the seventh month, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of royal offspring, and ten men with him, went and struck Gedaliah, who then died, along with the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

And all the people, from small to great, and the leaders of the military, rising up, went away to Egypt, fearing the Chaldeans.

Jehoiachin Released from Prison

(Jeremiah 52:31–34)

Truly, it happened that, in the thirty-seventh year of the transmigration of Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, Evilmerodach, the king of Babylon, in the year when he had begun to reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, from prison.

And he spoke kindly to him. And he set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him at Babylon.

And he changed his garments that he had worn in prison. And he ate bread before him always, during all the days of his life.

Also, he appointed to him an allowance without ceasing, which also was given to him by the king, for each day, during all the days of his life.

Der Fall und die Gefangenschaft von Juda

(2. Chronik 36,15-21; Jeremia 39,1-10)

Es begab sich aber im neunten Jahre seiner Herrschaft, im zehnten Monat, am zehnten Tage des Monats, dass Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, mit seinem ganzen Heere gegen Jerusalem heranrückte, und sie umzingelten es und errichteten rings um die Stadt Belagerungswerke.

So wurde die Stadt eingeschlossen und bis in das elfte Jahr des Königs Sedekias belagert,

bis zum neunten Tage des Monats; und der Hunger nahm in der Stadt überhand und das Volk des Landes hatte kein Brot.

Da ward eine Öffnung in die Stadt gebrochen und alle Krieger flohen des Nachts durch den Torweg, welcher zwischen der Doppelmauer zum Garten des Königs führt (die Chaldäer aber hielten die Stadt ringsum besetzt); Sedekias floh also auf dem Wege, welcher zur Ebene der Wüste führt.

Das Heer der Chaldäer aber verfolgte den König und ergriff ihn in der Ebene von Jericho, während alle Krieger, welche bei ihm waren, sich zerstreuten und ihn verließen.

Da sie nun den König ergriffen hatten, führten sie ihn zum Könige von Babylon nach Reblatha und dieser sprach das Urteil über ihn.

Die Söhne des Sedekias ließ er vor seinen Augen töten und ihm selbst die Augen ausstechen, sodann ließ er ihn in Ketten werfen und führte ihn nach Babylon.

(Jeremia 52,12-23)

Im fünften Monat aber, am siebenten Tage des Monats, dies ist das neunzehnte Jahr des Königs von Babylon, kam Nabuzardan, der Oberste des Heeres, der Diener des Königs von Babylon, nach Jerusalem

und zündete das Haus des Herrn und das Haus des Königs an; und die Häuser von Jerusalem und alle Häuser brannte er mit Feuer nieder.

Und das ganze Heer der Chaldäer, das bei dem Anführer der Soldaten war, riss die Mauern von Jerusalem ringsum nieder.

Den Rest des Volkes aber, welcher in der Stadt zurückgeblieben war, und die Flüchtlinge, welche zu dem Könige von Babylon übergelaufen waren, und das übrige Volk führte Nabuzardan, der Führer des Heeres, hinweg.

Von den Armen des Landes ließ er einige als Winzer und Ackerleute zurück.

Die ehernen Säulen aber, welche im Tempel des Herrn waren, und die Fußgestelle und das eherne Meer, das im Hause des Herrn war, zerbrachen die Chaldäer und schafften alles Erz nach Babylon fort.

Auch die ehernen Töpfe, die Schöpfkellen, die Gabeln, die Becher, die Mörser und alle ehernen Geräte, mit denen der Gottesdienst verrichtet ward, nahmen sie weg;

desgleichen die Rauchfässer und die Schalen; alles, was von Gold und von Silber war, nahm der Heerführer,

das ist die beiden Säulen, das eine Meer und die Fußgestelle, welche Salomon im Tempel des Herrn gemacht hatte; das Erz von allen Geräten war nicht zu wägen.

Achtzehn Ellen Höhe hatte eine Säule und darunter war ein Knauf von Erz von drei Ellen Höhe und das Flechtwerk und die Granatäpfel um den Knauf der Säule her, alles war von Erz; auch die andere Säule hatte gleiche Verzierungen.

(Jeremia 52,24-30)

Auch nahm der Heerführer den ersten Priester Sarajas und den zweiten Priester Sophonias und die drei Türhüter mit sich

und einen Kämmerer aus der Stadt, der die Kriegsleute befehligte, und fünf Männer von denen, welche vor dem Könige gestanden hatten, die er in der Stadt fand, und Sopher, den Führer des Heeres, der die Mannschaft aus dem Volke des Landes aushob, und sechzig Männer aus dem Volke,

Diese nahm Nabuzardan, der Heerführer, und brachte sie zu dem Könige von Babylon nach Reblatha.

Der König von Babylon aber ließ sie in Reblatha im Lande Emath töten. So ward Juda aus seinem Lande weggeführt.

Gedalja wird Statthalter von Juda

(Jeremia 40,1-16)

Über das Volk aber, das Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, im Lande Juda zurückgelassen hatte, setzte er den Godolias, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans.

Als dies alle Heerführer samt den Männern, die bei ihnen waren, hörten, nämlich dass der König von Babylon Godolias eingesetzt hatte, kamen sie zu Godolias nach Maspha, Ismahel, der Sohn Nathanias, und Johanan, der Sohn Karees, und Saraja, der Sohn Thanehumets, der Netophathiter, und Jezonias, der Sohn Maachathis, mit ihren Genossen.

Und Godolias schwur ihnen und ihren Genossen und sprach: Fürchtet euch nicht, den Chaldäern untertan zu sein; bleibet im Lande und dienet dem Könige von Babylon, so wird es euch wohl gehen.

(Jeremia 41,1-10)

Es geschah aber im siebenten Monat, dass Ismahel, der Sohn Nathanias, des Sohnes Elisamas, aus königlichem Geschlechte, kam, und mit ihm zehn Männer, diese schlugen Godolias, dass er starb, dazu auch die Juden und Chaldäer, welche bei ihm in Maspha waren.

Da machte sich das ganze Volk, vom Kleinem bis zum zum Großen, auf, samt den Heerführern, und begab sich nach Ägypten; denn sie fürchteten sich vor den Chaldäern.

Jojachin wird aus der Gefangenschaft entlassen

(Jeremia 52,31-34)

Im siebenunddreißigsten Jahre aber nach der Wegführung Joachins, des Königs von Juda, im zwölften Monat, am siebenundzwanzigsten Tage des Monats, geschah es, dass Evilmerodach, der König von Babylon, in dem Jahre, da er zu herrschen begann, das Haupt Joachins, des Königs von Juda, aus dem Kerker erhob.

Und er redete in Güte mit ihm und setzte dessen Thron über den Thron der Könige, die mit ihm in Babylon waren.

Auch ließ er ihn die Kleider ablegen, welche er im Kerker gehabt, und jener aß beständig vor ihm, alle Tage seines Lebens.

Zudem bestimmte er ihm einen ständigen Unterhalt, der ihm Tag für Tag von dem Könige alle Tage seines Lebens gereicht ward.
