- Kapitel 27 -

(Joshua 8:30–35)

Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people and said, “Keep all the commandments that I command you today.

On the day when you will pass over the Jordan to the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, you must set up some large stones and plaster them with plaster.

You must write on them all the words of this law when you have passed over; that you may go into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your ancestors, has promised you.

When you have passed over the Jordan, set up these stones that I am commanding you about today, on Mount Ebal, and plaster them with plaster.

There you must build an altar to Yahweh your God, an altar of stones; but you must raise no iron tool to work the stones.

You must build the altar of Yahweh your God of unworked stones; you must offer burnt offerings on it to Yahweh your God,

and you will sacrifice fellowship offerings and will eat there; you will rejoice before Yahweh your God.

You will write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.”

Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel and said, “Be silent and listen, Israel: Today you have become the people of Yahweh your God.

You must therefore obey the voice of Yahweh your God and obey his commandments and statutes that I am commanding you today.”

Curses Pronounced from Ebal

Moses commanded the people the same day and said,

“These tribes must stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people after you have passed over the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.

These are the tribes that must stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

The Levites will answer and say to all the men of Israel in a loud voice:

‘May the man be cursed who makes a carved or cast figure, an abomination to Yahweh, the work of the hands of a craftsman, and who sets it up in secret.’ Then all the people must answer and say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who dishonors his father or his mother.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who removes his neighbor’s landmark.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who makes the blind to wander away from the road.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who uses force to take away the justice due to a foreigner, fatherless, or widow.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who lies with his father’s wife, because he has taken away his father’s rights.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who sleeps with any kind of beast.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father, or with the daughter of his mother.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who kills his neighbor secretly.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

‘May the man be cursed who does not confirm the words of this law, that he will obey them.’ Then all the people must say, ‘Amen.’

Das Gesetz auf Steinen eingeschrieben

(Josua 8,30-35)

Moses aber und die Ältesten Israels geboten dem Volke und sprachen: Haltet alle Gebote, welche ich euch heute gebe.

und wenn ihr über den Jordan in das Land gezogen seid, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben wird, so sollst du große Steine aufrichten und sie mit Kalk übertünchen,

damit du darauf alle Worte dieses Gesetzes schreiben könnest, wenn du den Jordan überschritten hast; um in das Land zu gelangen, welches der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben wird, in das Land, das von Milch und Honig fließt, wie er deinen Vätern geschworen hat.

Wenn ihr also den Jordan überschritten habt, so richtet die Steine, wie ich euch heute befehle, auf dem Berge Hebal auf, und überstreiche sie mit Kalk,

und baue daselbst dem Herrn, deinem Gott, einen Altar von Steinen, die kein Eisen berührt hat,

von rohen und unbehauenen Steinen; und bringe darauf dem Herrn, deinem Gott, Brandopfer dar,

und schlachte Friedopfer, und halte allda vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Freudenmahl.

Und schreibe auf die Steine klar und deutlich alle Worte des Gesetzes.

Da sprachen Moses und die Priester vom Geschlechte Levi zu ganz Israel: Habe Acht und höre Israel! Heut bist du das Volk des Herrn, deines Gottes, geworden;

so höre auf seine Stimme und tue nach seinen Geboten und Rechten, die ich dir gebiete.

Flüche, die vom Berg Elbal ausgesprochen werden

Und Moses gebot dem Volke an jenem Tage und sprach:

Wenn ihr den Jordan überschritten habt, sollen diese sich auf dem Berge Garizim aufstellen, um das Volk zu segnen: Simeon, Levi, Judas, Issachar, Joseph und Benjamin;

und gegenüber, auf dem Berge Hebal, sollen sich aufstellen, um zu fluchen: Ruben, Gad, Aser, Zabulon, Dan und Nephthali.

Und die Leviten sollen beginnen und zu allen Männern Israels mit lauter Stimme sprechen:

Verflucht sei, wer ein geschnitztes oder gegossenes Bild macht, einen Greuel für den Herrn, ein Werk von Künstlerhänden gemacht und es im Verborgenen aufstellt; und das ganze Volk soll antworten und sagen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer seinen Vater und seine Mutter nicht ehrt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer die Grenzsteine seines Nachbarn verrückt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer einen Blinden auf dem Wege irre führt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer das Recht des Fremdlings, der Waise oder der Witwe verkehrt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer dem Weibe seines Vaters beiwohnt und die Decke seines Bettes aufdeckt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer irgend einem Vieh beiwohnt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer seiner Schwester, der Tochter seines Vaters, oder seiner Mutter beiwohnt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer seiner Schwiegermutter beiwohnt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer seinen Nächsten heimlich erschlägt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer Geschenke annimmt um einen Unschuldigen um´s Leben zu bringen; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.

Verflucht sei, wer in den Worten dieses Gesetzes nicht beharrt, und sie nicht im Werke erfüllt; und das ganze Volk soll sprechen: Amen.
