- Kapitel 53 -

(Acts 8:26–40; 1 Peter 2:21–25)

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?(a)

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.(b)

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.(c)

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.(e)

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.(f)

A Grave Assigned

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.(h)

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.(i)

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Wer glaubte unserer Verkündigung? Und der Arm des Herrn, wem ist er offenbar geworden?

Er steigt empor wie ein Reis vor ihm und wie eine Wurzel aus dürstendem Lande, nicht ist ihm Gestalt und nicht Schmuck; wir sahen ihn und es war kein Anblick, so dass wir Wohlgefallen an ihm fänden,

dem Verachteten und Mindesten der Menschen, dem Manne der Schmerzen, der Krankheit erfahren; und sein Antlitz war wie verhüllt und verachtet, weshalb wir sein nicht achteten.

Wahrlich, er hat unsere Leiden getragen und unsere Schmerzen hat er auf sich genommen. Und wir hielten ihn für einen Aussätzigen, einen von Gott Geschlagenen und Gebeugten.

Er aber ist verwundet worden um unserer Frevel willen, zerschlagen um unserer Missetaten willen; die Züchtigung liegt unseres Friedens wegen auf ihm und durch seine Wunden sind wir geheilt worden.

Wir alle gingen in die Irre wie Schafe, ein jeder wich ab auf seinen Weg, und der Herr hat auf ihn unser aller Missetat gelegt.

Er ward geopfert, weil er selbst wollte, und er öffnete seinen Mund nicht; wie ein Schaf zur Schlachtung geführt wird und wie ein Lamm vor seinem Scherer verstummt, und er öffnet seinen Mund nicht.

Aus der Bedrängnis und aus dem Gerichte ward er weggerafft, wer wird sein Geschlecht begreifen? denn er ward hinweggerissen aus dem Lande der Lebenden, um der Sünde meines Volkes willen habe ich ihn geschlagen!

Er wird Gottlose für sein Grab und den Reichen für seinen Tod geben, weil er kein Unrecht getan noch in seinem Munde Trug war.

Und dem Herrn gefiel es, ihn durch Leiden zu zermalmen; wenn er sein Leben zum Schuldopfer hingegeben, wird er langdauernde Nachkommenschaft schauen und der Plan des Herrn wird durch seine Hand ausgeführt werden.

Dafür dass seine Seele Mühsal litt, wird er schauen und sich erlaben; durch seine Kenntnis wird mein gerechter Knecht viele gerecht machen und ihre Missetaten wird er tragen.

Darum teile ich ihm sehr viele zu und die Beute der Starken wird er teilen, dafür dass er seine Seele in den Tod hingab und sich unter die Übeltäter rechnen ließ und die Sünden vieler trug und für die Übertreter Fürbitte einlegte.
