- Kapitel 10 -

Mordecai's promotion

And king Assuerus made all the land, and all the islands of the sea tributary.

And his strength and his empire, and the dignity and greatness wherewith he exalted Mardochai, are written in the books of the Medes, and of the Persians:

And how Mardochai of the race of the Jews, was next after king Assuerus: and great among the Jews, and acceptable to the people of his brethren, seeking the good of his people, and speaking those things which were for the welfare of his seed.

Then Mardochai said: God hath done these things.

I remember a dream that I saw, which signified these same things: and nothing thereof hath failed.

The little fountain which grew into a river, and was turned into a light, and into the sun, and abounded into many waters, is Esther, whom the king married, and made queen.

But the two dragons are I and Aman.

The nations that were assembled are they that endeavoured to destroy the name of the Jews.

And my nation is Israel, who cried to the Lord, and the Lord saved his people: and he delivered us from all evils, and hath wrought great signs and wonders among the nations:

And he commanded that there should be two lots, one of the people of God, and the other of all the nations.

And both lots came to the day appointed already from that time before God to all nations:

And the Lord remembered his people, and had mercy on his inheritance.

And these days shall be observed in the month of Adar on the fourteenth, and fifteenth day of the same month. with all diligence, and joy of the people gathered into one assembly, throughout all the generations hereafter of the people of Israel.

Mardochais Beförderung

Der König Assuerus aber legte dem ganzen Lande und allen Inseln des Meeres einen Tribut auf.

Seine Macht und Herrschaft und die Würde und Hoheit, zu welcher er Mardochäus erhoben, sind in den Büchern der Meder und Perser beschrieben;

und wie Mardochäus aus dem Geschlechte der Juden der Zweite nach dem Könige Assuerus war und bei den Juden in hohen Ansehen stand und bei dem Volke seiner Brüder beliebt war, weil er das Beste seines Volkes suchte und das redete, was seinem Geschlechte zum Frieden diente. Was sich im Hebräischen findet, habe ich vollkommen treu übersetzt. Das aber, was folgt, habe ich in der gemein üblichen Ausgabe in griechischer Sprache und Schrift gefunden. Einstweilen ward dieses Kapitel an das Ende des Buches gesetzt und ich habe meiner Gewohnheit nach einem Obelus (†), das ist ein christliches Zeichen, davor gesetzt.

Und Mardochäus sprach: Gott hat dies alles getan.

Ich erinnere mich eines Traumes, den ich hatte, der ebendies vorbedeutete, und es ist nichts davon unerfüllt geblieben.

Der kleine Quell, welcher zum Strome anwuchs und sich in ein Licht, in die Sonne, verwandelte und in sehr viele Gewässer ergoss, ist Esther, welche der König zur Gemahlin nahm und zur Königin machte.

Die zwei Drachen aber, das bin ich und Aman.

Die Völker, welche zusammenkamen, sind die, welche den Namen der Juden zu vertilgen trachteten.

Mein Volk aber, Israel, rief zu dem Herrn und der Herr rettete sein Volk und befreite uns von allen Übeln und tat große Zeichen und Wunder unter den Völkern.

Und er befahl, dass zwei Lose sein sollten, das eine für das Volk Gottes und das andere für alle Völker.

Und beide Lose trafen auf den schon von jener Zeit an vor Gott für alle Völker bestimmten Tag.

Und der Herr gedachte seines Volkes und erbarmte sich seines Erbes.

Diese Tage sollen im Monate Adar, am vierzehnten und fünfzehnten dieses Monats, gefeiert werden, das ganze Volk soll sich mit allem Eifer und mit Freude versammeln durch alle nachfolgenden Geschlechter des Volkes Israel.
