- Kapitel 12 -

(Matthew 16:5–12; Mark 8:14–21)

Then, as great crowds were standing so close that they were stepping on one another, he began to say to his disciples: “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

For there is nothing covered, which will not be revealed, nor anything hidden, which will not be known.

For the things that you have spoken in darkness will be declared in the light. And what you have said in the ear in bedrooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.

Fear God Alone

(Matthew 10:26–31)

So I say to you, my friends: Do not be fearful of those who kill the body, and afterwards have no more that they can do.

But I will reveal to you whom you should fear. Fear him who, after he will have killed, has the power to cast into Hell. So I say to you: Fear him.

Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? And yet not one of these is forgotten in the sight of God.

But even the very hairs of your head have all been numbered. Therefore, do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.

Confessing Christ

(Matthew 10:32–33)

But I say to you: Everyone who will have confessed me before men, the Son of man will also confess him before the Angels of God.

But everyone who will have denied me before men, he will be denied before the Angels of God.

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven of him. But of him who will have blasphemed against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.

And when they will lead you to the synagogues, and to magistrates and authorities, do not choose to be worried about how or what you will answer, or about what you might say.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you, in the same hour, what you must say.”

The Parable of the Rich Fool

And someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”

But he said to him, “Man, who has appointed me as judge or arbitrator over you?”

So he said to them: “Be cautious and wary of all avarice. For a person’s life is not found in the abundance of the things that he possesses.”

Then he spoke to them using a comparison, saying: “The fertile land of a certain wealthy man produced crops.

And he thought within himself, saying: ‘What should I do? For I have nowhere to gather together my crops.’

And he said: ‘This is what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build larger ones. And into these, I will gather all the things that have been grown for me, as well as my goods.

And I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many goods, stored up for many years. Relax, eat, drink, and be cheerful.’

But God said to him: ‘Foolish one, this very night they require your soul of you. To whom, then, will those things belong, which you have prepared?’

So it is with him who stores up for himself, and is not wealthy with God.”

Do Not Worry

(Matthew 6:25–34)

And he said to his disciples: “And so I say to you: Do not choose to be anxious about your life, as to what you may eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear.

Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.

Consider the ravens. For they neither sow nor reap; there is no storehouse or barn for them. And yet God pastures them. How much more are you, compared to them?

But which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature?

Therefore, if you are not capable, in what is so little, why be anxious about the rest?

Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither work nor weave. But I say to you, not even Solomon, in all his glory, was clothed like one of these.

Therefore, if God so clothes the grass, which is in the field today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, how much more you, O little in faith?

And so, do not choose to inquire as to what you will eat, or what you will drink. And do not choose to be lifted up on high.

For all these things are sought by the Gentiles of the world. And your Father knows that you have need of these things.

Yet truly, seek first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you.

Treasures in Heaven

(Matthew 6:19–21)

Do not be afraid, little flock; for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.

Sell what you possess, and give alms. Make for yourselves purses that will not wear out, a treasure that will not fall short, in heaven, where no thief approaches, and no moth corrupts.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Readiness at Any Hour

(Matthew 24:36–51; Mark 13:32–37)

Let your waists be girded, and let lamps be burning in your hands.

And let you yourselves be like men awaiting their lord, when he will return from the wedding; so that, when he arrives and knocks, they may open to him promptly.

Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he returns, will find being vigilant. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, while he, continuing on, will minister to them.

And if he will return in the second watch, or if in the third watch, and if he will find them to be so: then blessed are those servants.

But know this: that if the father of the family knew at what hour the thief would arrive, he would certainly stand watch, and he would not permit his house to be broken into.

You also must be prepared. For the Son of man will return at an hour that you will not realize.”

Then Peter said to him, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or also to everyone?”

So the Lord said: “Who do you think is the faithful and prudent steward, whom his Lord has appointed over his family, in order to give them their measure of wheat in due time?

Blessed is that servant if, when his Lord will return, he will find him acting in this manner.

Truly I say to you, that he will appoint him over all that he possesses.

But if that servant will have said in his heart, ‘My Lord has made a delay in his return,’ and if he has begun to strike the men and women servants, and to eat and drink, and to be inebriated,

then the Lord of that servant will return on a day which he hoped not, and at an hour which he knew not. And he will separate him, and he will place his portion with that of the unfaithful.

And that servant, who knew the will of his Lord, and who did not prepare and did not act according to his will, will be beaten many times over.

Yet he who did not know, and who acted in a way that deserves a beating, will be beaten fewer times. So then, of all to whom much has been given, much will be required. And of those to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be asked.

Not Peace but Division

(Micah 7:1–6; Matthew 10:34–39)

I have come to cast a fire upon the earth. And what should I desire, except that it may be kindled?

And I have a baptism, with which I am to be baptized. And how I am constrained, even until it may be accomplished!

Do you think that I have come to give peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but division.

For from this time on, there will be five in one house: divided as three against two, and as two against three.

A father will be divided against a son, and a son against his father; a mother against a daughter and a daughter against a mother; a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Interpreting the Present Time

(Matthew 16:1–4; Mark 8:11–13)

And he also said to the crowds: “When you see a cloud rising from the setting of the sun, immediately you say, ‘A rain cloud is coming.’ And so it does.

And when a south wind is blowing, you say, ‘It will be hot.’ And so it is.

You hypocrites! You discern the face of the heavens, and of the earth, yet how is it that you do not discern this time?

Reconciling with an Adversary

(Matthew 5:21–26)

And why do you not, even among yourselves, judge what is just?

So, when you are going with your adversary to the ruler, while you are on the way, make an effort to be freed from him, lest perhaps he may lead you to the judge, and the judge may deliver you to the officer, and the officer may cast you into prison.

I tell you, you will not depart from there, until you have paid the very last coin.”

Hüte dich vor Heuchelei

(Matthäus 16,5-12; Markus 8,14-21)

Als nun viele Volksscharen ringsherum standen, so dass sie aufeinander traten, fing er an zu seinen Jüngern zu sagen: Hütet euch vor dem Sauerteige der Pharisäer, welcher die Heuchelei ist!

Es ist aber nichts verborgen, was nicht offenbar, und nichts heimlich, was nicht bekannt würde.

Denn was ihr im Finstern gesprochen habt, das wird im Lichte verkündet werden; und was ihr in den Kammern in`s Ohr geredet habet, das wird auf den Dächern gepredigt werden.

Jesus lehrt die Furcht vor Gott

(Matthäus 10,26-31)

Euch aber, meinen Freunden, sage ich: Fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die den Leib töten, und darnach nichts mehr tun können!

Ich will euch aber zeigen, wen ihr fürchten sollet: Fürchtet den, welcher, nachdem er getötet hat, Macht hat, in die Hölle zu werfen. Ja, sage ich euch, diesen fürchtet!

Verkauft man nicht fünf Sperlinge um zwei Pfennige? Und nicht einer von ihnen ist in Vergessenheit vor Gott.

Aber auch die Haare eures Hauptes sind alle gezählt. Fürchtet euch also nicht; ihr seid mehr wert als viele Sperlinge.

Bekenne dich zu Christus vor den Menschen

(Matthäus 10,32-33)

Ich sage euch aber: Ein jeder, der mich vor den Menschen bekennen wird, den wird auch der Menschensohn vor den Engeln Gottes bekennen.

Wer mich aber vor den Menschen verleugnet, der wird auch vor den Engeln Gottes verleugnet werden.

Und jedem, der ein Wort wider den Menschensohn redet, wird es vergeben werden; dem aber, der wider den heiligen Geist lästert, wird nicht vergeben werden.

Wenn man euch in die Synagogen führet, und vor die Obrigkeiten und die Machthaber, so sorget nicht, wie oder was ihr antworten, oder was ihr reden sollet;

denn der Heilige Geist wird euch in derselben Stunde lehren, was ihr sagen müsst.

Das Gleichnis vom reichen Narren

Es sprach aber einer aus dem Volke zu ihm: Meister! Sage meinem Bruder, dass er die Erbschaft mit mir teile.

Er aber sprach zu ihm: Mensch! wer hat mich zum Richter oder Erbverteiler über euch gesetzt?

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Sehet zu, und hütet euch vor aller Habsucht; denn wenn auch jemand Überfluss hat, so hängt doch sein Leben nicht von seinen Gütern ab.

Er sagte ihnen auch ein Gleichnis, und sprach: Eines reichen Mannes Acker trug reichliche Früchte.

Da dachte er bei sich selbst, und sprach: Was soll ich tun, da ich nicht Raum habe, wo ich meine Feldfrüchte unterbringen könnte?

Und er sprach: Das will ich tun: Ich werde meine Scheunen abbrechen, und größere bauen; daselbst werde ich alles, was mir gewachsen, und meine Güter zusammenbringen.

Dann werde ich zu meiner Seele sagen: Meine Seele! Du hast viele Güter liegen auf sehr viele Jahre; ruhe aus, iß, trink, lass es dir wohl sein!

Gott aber sprach zu ihm: Du Tor! In dieser Nacht fordert man deine Seele von dir; was du nun bereitet hast, wessen wird es sein?

So geht es dem, der sich Schätze sammelt, und nicht bei Gott reich ist.

Macht euch keine Sorgen

(Matthäus 6,25-34)

Und er sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Darum sage ich euch: Sorget nicht für euer Leben, was ihr essen, noch für den Leib, was ihr anziehen möget.

Das Leben ist mehr als die Speise, und der Leib mehr als die Kleidung.

Betrachtet die Raben, sie säen und ernten nicht, sie haben weder Keller noch Scheunen, und Gott ernähret sie. Wie viel mehr seid ihr wert als sie?

Wer von euch kann mit seinen Sorgen seiner Leibeslänge auch nur eine Elle zusetzen?

Wenn ihr nun auch nicht einmal das Geringste vermöget, was sorget ihr euch für das übrige?

Betrachtet die Lilien, wie sie wachsen. Sie arbeiten nicht, und spinnen nicht; ich sage euch aber, selbst Salomon in seiner ganzen Pracht war nicht gekleidet wie eine von diesen.

Wenn nun Gott das Gras, welches heute auf dem Felde steht, und morgen in den Ofen geworfen wird, also kleidet, wie viel mehr euch, ihr Kleingläubigen!

Darum fraget auch ihr nicht, was ihr essen oder was ihr trinken möget, und trachtet nicht hoch hinaus,

denn nach allem diesem trachten die Heiden. Euer Vater aber weiß, dass ihr dessen bedürfet.

Vielmehr suchet zuerst das Reich Gottes und seine Gerechtigkeit, so wird euch dieses alles zugegeben werden.

(Matthäus 6,19-21)

Fürchte dich nicht, du kleine Herde! Denn es hat eurem Vater gefallen, euch das Reich zu geben.

Verkaufet, was ihr besitzet, und gebet Almosen! Machet euch Beutel, die nicht veralten, einen Schatz im Himmel, der nicht abnimmt, wo kein Dieb dazukommt, und den keine Motte verzehrt.

Denn wo euer Schatz ist, da wird auch euer Herz sein.

Der treue Knecht und der böse Knecht

(Matthäus 24,36-51; Markus 13,32-37)

Eure Lenden seien umgürtet, und die Lampen brennend in euren Händen,

und ihr seiet Menschen ähnlich, die auf ihren Herrn warten, wann er von der Hochzeit zurückkommen wird, damit, wenn er kommt und anklopft, sie ihm sogleich auftun.

Selig jene Knechte, welche der Herr wachend findet, wenn er kommt! Wahrlich, ich sage euch, er wird sich aufgürten, und sie zu Tische sitzen lassen, und umhergehen, und sie bedienen.

Und wenn er in der zweiten Nachtwache kommt, oder in der dritten Nachtwache kommt, und sie so findet, selig sind jene Knechte!

Das aber sollt ihr wissen, wenn der Hausvater wüsste, zu welcher Stunde der Dieb kommt, so würde er sicherlich wachen, und nicht in sein Haus einbrechen lassen.

So seid denn auch ihr bereit; denn zu einer Stunde, da ihr es nicht meinet, wird der Menschensohn kommen.

Petrus aber sprach zu ihm: Herr! sagst du dieses Gleichnis für uns, oder auch für alle?

Und der Herr sprach: Wer ist wohl der treue und kluge Haushalter, den der Herr über sein Gesinde gesetzt hat, damit er ihnen zur rechten Zeit den angemessenen Unterhalt reiche?

Selig ist jener Knecht, den der Herr, wenn er kommt, also handelnd findet!

Wahrlich, ich sage euch, über alle seine Besitztümer wird er ihn setzen!

Wenn aber jener Knecht in seinem Herzen spräche: Mein Herr verziehet zu kommen; und wenn er anfinge die Knechte und Mägde zu schlagen, zu essen, zu trinken, und sich zu berauschen,

so wird der Herr dieses Knechtes kommen an einem Tage, da er es nicht erwartet, und zu einer Stunde, da er es nicht weiß, und wird ihn absondern, und ihm seinen Teil mit den Ungetreuen geben.

Jener Knecht aber, der den Willen seines Herrn gekannt, und sich nicht bereit gehalten, und nicht getan hat nach seinem Willen, wird viele Streiche bekommen.

Der ihn aber nicht gekannt, und das getan hat, was Schläge verdient, wird weniger erhalten. Von einem jeden aber, dem viel gegeben worden ist, wird viel gefordert werden; und wem viel anvertraut worden ist, von dem wird mehr gefordert werden.

Christus bringt die Spaltung

(Micha 7,1-6; Matthäus 10,34-39)

Ich bin gekommen, Feuer auf die Erde zu senden, und was will ich anders, als dass es brenne?

Aber ich muss mit einer Taufe getauft werden; und wie drängt es mich, bis es vollbracht wird!

Meinet ihr, dass ich gekommen sei, der Erde Frieden zu geben? Nein, sage ich euch, sondern Entzweiung;

denn von nun an werden fünf in einem Hause uneins sein, drei mit zweien, und zwei mit dreien;

uneins der Vater mit dem Sohne, und der Sohn mit seinem Vater, die Mutter mit der Tochter, und die Tochter mit der Mutter, die Schwiegermutter mit ihrer Schwiegertochter, und die Schwiegertochter mit ihrer Schwiegermutter.

Erkenne die Zeit

(Matthäus 16,1-4; Markus 8,11-13)

Er sprach aber auch zu dem Volke: Wenn ihr eine Wolke von Abend her aufsteigen sehet, so saget ihr sogleich: Es kommt Regen! Und es trifft so ein;

und wenn ihr den Südwind wehen sehet, saget ihr: Es wird heiß werden! Und es trifft zu.

Ihr Heuchler! das Aussehen des Himmels und der Erde wisset ihr zu prüfen, warum würdigt ihr denn aber diese Zeit nicht?

Schließt Frieden mit eurem Widersacher

(Matthäus 5,21-26)

Warum beurteilet ihr nicht auch von euch selbst, was recht ist?

Wenn du aber mit deinem Widersacher zur Obrigkeit gehest, so gib dir auf dem Wege Mühe, von ihm frei zu werden, damit er dich nicht etwa vor den Richter schleppe, und der Richter dich dem Gerichtsdiener übergebe, und der Gerichtsdiener dich in das Gefängnis werfe.

Ich sage dir, du wirst von da nicht herauskommen, bis du auch den letzten Heller bezahlt hast.
