(Matthew 13:36–43)

A word of YHWH that has been to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezikiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amoz, king of Judah:

“I utterly consume all from off the face of the ground,” || A declaration of YHWH.

“I consume man and beast, || I consume bird of the heavens, and fishes of the sea, || And the stumbling-blocks—the wicked, || And I have cut off man from the face of the ground,” || A declaration of YHWH,

“And I have stretched out My hand against Judah, || And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, || And cut off from this place the remnant of Ba‘al, || The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,

And those bowing themselves || On the roofs to the host of the heavens, || And those bowing themselves, || Swearing to YHWH, and swearing by Malcham,

And those removing from after YHWH, || And who have not sought YHWH, nor implored Him.”

The Day of the LORD

(Malachi 4:1–6; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11; 2 Peter 3:8–13)

Hush! Because of Lord YHWH, || For near [is the] Day of YHWH, || For YHWH has prepared a sacrifice, || He has sanctified His invited ones.

“And it has come to pass, || In the day of the sacrifice of YHWH, || That I have laid a charge on the heads, || And on sons of the king, || And on all putting on strange clothing.

And I have laid a charge on everyone || Who is leaping over the threshold in that day, || Who are filling the house of their masters || [With] violence and deceit.

And there has been in that day,” || A declaration of YHWH, || “The noise of a cry from the Fish Gate, || And of a howling from the Second [Quarter], || And of great destruction from the hills.

Howl, you inhabitants of the hollow place, || For all the merchant people have been cut off, || All carrying silver have been cut off.

And it has come to pass at that time, || I search Jerusalem with lights, || And I have laid a charge on the men || Who are hardened on their preserved things, || Who are saying in their heart: YHWH does no good, nor does He do evil.

And their wealth has been for a spoil, || And their houses for desolation, || And they have built houses, and do not inhabit, || And they have planted vineyards, || And they do not drink their wine.”

Near [is] the Great Day of YHWH, || Near, and hastening exceedingly, || The noise of the Day of YHWH, || There a mighty one bitterly shrieks.

A day of wrath [is] that day, || A day of adversity and distress, || A day of devastation and desolation, || A day of darkness and gloominess, || A day of cloud and thick darkness,

A day of horn and shouting against the fortified cities, || And against the high corners.

“And I have sent distress to men, || And they have walked as the blind, || For against YHWH they have sinned, || And poured out is their blood as dust, || And their flesh [is] as dung.”

Even their silver, even their gold, is not able to deliver them in a day of the wrath of YHWH, and in the fire of His jealousy is the whole land consumed, for He makes only a hurried end of all the inhabitants of the land!

Der große Tag des HERRN

Hinraffen fürwahr werde ich alles vom Erdboden hinweg, spricht der Herr,

hinraffen Menschen und Vieh, hinraffen die Vögel des Himmels und die Fische im Meere, und die Gottlosen werden niederstürzen und ich werde die Menschen von dem Erdboden vertilgen, spricht der Herr.

Ich werde meine Hand wider Juda und wider alle Bewohner Jerusalems ausstrecken und werde von dieser Stätte die Überreste Baals und die Namen der Tempeldiener samt den Priestern vertilgen,

sowie die, welche das Heer des Himmels auf den Dächern und zugleich den Herrn anbeten und bei dem Herrn und zugleich bei Melchom schwören,

und die, welche abtrünnig geworden sind von dem Herrn und den Herrn nicht suchen und nicht nach ihm fragen.

Stille vor dem Herrn, Gott! Denn nahe ist der Tag des Herrn, denn ein Schlachtopfer hat sich der Herr zugerichtet, er hat seine Geladenen geheiligt.

Am Tage des Opferschlachtens des Herrn aber werde ich die Fürsten und die Königssöhne heimsuchen und alle, die mit Gewändern der Fremden angetan sind.

Und ich will an jenem Tage alle heimsuchen, die stolz die Schwelle überschreiten, die das Haus des Herrn, ihres Gottes, mit Unrecht und Trug erfüllen.

An jenem Tage, spricht der Herr, wird lautes Geschrei gehört werden vom Fischertor her und Wehegeheul von der Unterstadt und großes Krachen von den Höhen her.

Jammert, ihr Bewohner des Kessels! verstummt ist das ganze Volk Kanaan, alle, welche Silber um sich her anhäuften, sind ausgetilgt.

Und es wird zu jener Zeit geschehen: Ich werde Jerusalem mit Leuchten durchforschen und die Männer heimsuchen, welche auf ihren Hefen hocken, die in ihren Herzen sprechen: Der Herr tut weder Gutes noch tut er Böses.

Ihr Reichtum wird der Plünderung, ihre Häuser der Verödung überliefert werden; bauen sie Häuser, so sollen sie diese nicht bewohnen; pflanzen sie Weinberge, so sollen sie keinen Wein davon trinken.

Nahe ist der große Tag des Herrn, nahe ist er und kommt eilends heran; bitter ist die Stimme des Tages des Herrn, da zagen die Streiter.

Ein Tag des Zornes ist dieser Tag, ein Tag der Drangsal und Angst, ein Tag des Verderbens und des Elends, ein Tag der Finsternis und des Dunkels, ein Tag des Gewölkes und des Sturmes,

ein Tag des Posaunenschalles und des Lärmblasens wider die festen Städte und wider die ragenden Zinnen.

Dann werde ich die Menschen bedrängen, dass sie wie Blinde umhertappen, denn sie haben wider den Herrn gesündigt; ihr Blut soll ausgeschüttet werden wie Staub und ihre Leiber wie Kot.

Auch ihr Silber und ihr Gold wird sie nicht zu retten vermögen am Tage des Zornes des Herrn, vom Feuer seines Eifers wird die ganze Erde verzehrt werden, denn schnell wird er allen Bewohnern der Erde ein Ende machen.
