- Kapitel 5 -

And when he sawe the multitude, he went vp into a mountaine: and when he was set, his disciples came to him.

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

The Beatitudes

(Psalm 1:1–6; Luke 6:20–23)

Blessed are the poore in spirit, for theirs is the kingdome of heauen.

Blessed are they that mourne: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meeke: for they shall inherite the earth.

Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousnes: for they shalbe filled.

Blessed are the mercifull: for they shall obteine mercie.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peace makers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which suffer persecution for righteousnes sake: for theirs is the kingdome of heauen.

Blessed shall ye be when men reuile you, and persecute you, and say all maner of euill against you for my sake, falsely.

Reioyce and be glad, for great is your reward in heauen: for so persecuted they the Prophets which were before you.

Salt and Light

(Mark 9:49–50; Luke 14:34–35; Philippians 2:12–18)

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt haue lost his sauour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be troden vnder foote of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A citie that is set on an hill, cannot be hid.

Neither doe men light a candel, and put it vnder a bushel, but on a candlesticke, and it giueth light vnto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good workes, and glorifie your Father which is in heauen.

The Fulfillment of the Law

Think not that I am come to destroy the Lawe, or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy them, but to fulfill them.

For truely I say vnto you, Till heauen, and earth perish, one iote or one title of the Law shall not scape, till all things be fulfilled.

Whosoeuer therefore shall breake one of these least commandements, and teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdome of heauen: but whosoeuer shall obserue and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdome of heauen.

For I say vnto you, except your righteousnes exceede the righteousnes of the Scribes and Pharises, ye shall not enter into the kingdome of heauen.

Anger and Reconciliation

(Luke 12:57–59)

Ye haue heard that it was sayd vnto them of the olde time, Thou shalt not kill: for whosoeuer killeth shalbe culpable of iudgement.

But I say vnto you, whosoeuer is angry with his brother vnaduisedly, shalbe culpable of iudgment. And whosoeuer sayth vnto his brother, Raca, shalbe worthy to be punished by the Councill. And whosoeuer shall say, Foole, shalbe worthy to be punished with hell fire.

If then thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remembrest that thy brother hath ought against thee,

Leaue there thine offring before the altar, and goe thy way: first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Agree with thine aduersarie quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him, lest thine aduersarie deliuer thee to the Iudge, and the Iudge deliuer thee to ye sergeant, and thou be cast into prison.

Verely I say vnto thee, thou shalt not come out thence, till thou hast payed the vtmost farthing.

Adultery

(Leviticus 18:1–30)

Ye haue heard that it was sayd to them of olde time, Thou shalt not commit adulterie.

But I say vnto you, that whosoeuer looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adulterie with her already in his heart.

Wherefore if thy right eye cause thee to offend, plucke it out, and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee, that one of thy members perish, then that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Also if thy right hand make thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee that one of thy members perish, then that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Divorce

(Deuteronomy 24:1–5; Luke 16:18)

It hath bene sayd also, Whosoeuer shall put away his wife, let him giue her a bill of diuorcement.

But I say vnto you, whosoeuer shall put away his wife (except it be for fornication) causeth her to commit adulterie: and whosoeuer shall marrie her that is diuorced, committeth adulterie.

Oaths and Vows

(Numbers 30:1–16)

Againe, ye haue heard that it was sayd to them of old time, Thou shalt not forsweare thy selfe, but shalt performe thine othes to the Lord.

But I say vnto you, Sweare not at all, neither by heauen, for it is the throne of God:

Nor yet by the earth: for it is his footestoole: neither by Hierusalem: for it is the citie of the great King.

Neither shalt thou sweare by thine head, because thou canst not make one heare white or blacke.

But let your communication be Yea, yea: Nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more then these, commeth of euill.

Love Your Enemies

(Leviticus 24:17–23; Luke 6:27–36)

Ye haue heard that it hath bene sayd, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.

But I say vnto you, Resist not euill: but whosoeuer shall smite thee on thy right cheeke, turne to him the other also.

And if any man wil sue thee at the law, and take away thy coate, let him haue thy cloke also.

And whosoeuer will compell thee to goe a mile, goe with him twaine.

Giue to him that asketh, and from him that would borowe of thee, turne not away.

Ye haue heard that it hath bin said, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour, and hate your enemie.

But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies: blesse them that curse you: doe good to them that hate you, and pray for them which hurt you, and persecute you,

That ye may be the children of your father that is in heauen: for he maketh his sunne to arise on the euill, and the good, and sendeth raine on the iust, and vniust.

For if ye loue them, which loue you, what rewarde shall you haue? Doe not the Publicanes euen the same?

And if ye be friendly to your brethren onely, what singular thing doe ye? doe not euen the Publicanes likewise?

Ye shall therefore be perfit, as your Father which is in heauen, is perfite.

Die Seligpreisungen

Als aber Jesus die Scharen sah, stieg er den Berg hinan, und als er sich niedergesetzt hatte, traten seine Jünger zu ihm.

Und er tat seinen Mund auf, lehrte sie, und sprach:

(Psalm 1,1-6; Lukas 6,20-23)

Selig die Armen im Geiste; denn ihrer ist das Himmelreich!

Selig die Sanftmütigen; denn sie werden das Land besitzen!

Selig die Trauernden; denn sie werden getröstet werden!

Selig, die hungern und dürsten nach der Gerechtigkeit; denn sie werden gesättigt werden!

Selig die Barmherzigen, denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erlangen!

Selig, die reinen Herzens sind, denn sie werden Gott schauen!

Selig die Friedfertigen, denn sie werden Kinder Gottes genannt werden!

Selig, die um der Gerechtigkeit willen Verfolgung leiden, denn ihrer ist das Himmelreich!

Selig seid ihr, wenn euch die Menschen schmähen und verfolgen, und alles Böse mit Unwahrheit wider euch reden um meinetwillen!

Freuet euch, und frohlocket; denn euer Lohn ist groß im Himmel! Denn ebenso haben sie die Propheten verfolgt, die vor euch waren.

Gläubige sind Salz und Licht

(Markus 9,49-50; Lukas 14,34-35; Philipper 2,12-18)

Ihr seid das Salz der Erde; wenn nun das Salz seine Kraft verliert, womit soll man es salzen? Es taugt zu nichts mehr, als dass es hinausgeworfen und von den Menschen zertreten werde.

Ihr seid das Licht der Welt. Eine Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, kann nicht verborgen bleiben.

Auch zündet man keine Leuchte an und stellt sie unter den Scheffel, sondern auf den Leuchter, damit sie allen leuchte, die im Hause sind.

So leuchte euer Licht vor den Menschen, auf dass sie eure guten Werke sehen, und euren Vater preisen, der im Himmel ist.

Christus erfüllt das Gesetz

Glaubet nicht, dass ich gekommen sei, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzuheben. Ich bin nicht gekommen, sie aufzuheben, sondern zu erfüllen.

Denn wahrlich, ich sage euch: Bis Himmel und Erde vergehen, wird nicht ein Strichlein oder ein Punkt vom Gesetze vergehen, bis alles geschieht!

Wer also etwa eines von diesen mindesten Geboten aufhebt und die Menschen so lehrt, wird der Mindeste genannt werden im Himmelreiche; wer sie aber hält und lehrt, der wird ein Großer genannt werden im Himmelreiche.

Denn ich sage euch: Wenn eure Gerechtigkeit nicht vollkommener sein wird, als die der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, so werdet ihr nicht in das Himmelreich eingehen.

Mord fängt im Herzen an

(Lukas 12,57-59)

Ihr habt gehört, dass den Alten gesagt worden ist: Du sollst nicht töten; wer aber getötet hat, wird dem Gerichte verfallen sein!

Ich aber sage euch: Jeder, der seinem Bruder zürnt, wird dem Gerichte verfallen sein. Wer aber zu seinem Bruder sagt: Raka! wird dem Rate verfallen sein. Wer aber sagt: Du Narr! wird dem höllischen Feuer verfallen sein.

Wenn du daher deine Gabe zu dem Altare bringest, und du erinnerst dich daselbst, dass dein Bruder etwas wider dich hat,

so lass deine Gabe allda vor dem Altare, und gehe hin, und versöhne dich zuvor mit deinem Bruder; und dann komm, und opfere deine Gabe!

Sei deinem Widersacher. willfährig ohne zögern, so lange du mit ihm auf dem Wege bist, damit dich nicht der Widersacher dem Richter überantworte, und der Richter dich dem Schergen übergebe, und du in den Kerker geworfen werdest.

Wahrlich, ich sage dir, du wirst von dort nicht herauskommen, bis du den letzten Heller bezahlt hast!

Ehebruch im Herzen

(3. Mose 18,1-30)

Ihr habt gehört, dass den Alten gesagt ist: Du sollst nicht ehebrechen!

Ich aber sage euch: Ein jeder, der ein Weib, um es zu begehren, ansieht, hat schon an ihr Ehebruch begangen in seinem Herzen.

Wenn aber dein rechtes Auge dich ärgert, so reiße es aus, und wirf es von dir; denn es ist dir besser, dass von deinen Gliedern eines verloren gehe, als dass dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde.

Und wenn deine rechte Hand dich ärgert, so haue sie ab, und wirf sie von dir; denn es ist besser für dich, dass von deinen Gliedern eines verloren sei, als dass dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle fahre.

Die Ehe ist heilig und verbindlich

(5. Mose 24,1-5; Lukas 16,18)

Es ist auch gesagt worden: Wer immer sein Weib entlässt, gebe ihr einen Scheidebrief.

Ich aber sage euch: Jeder, der sein Weib entlässt, außer um des Ehebruches willen, macht, dass sie die Ehe bricht; und wer eine Entlassene zur Ehe nimmt, bricht die Ehe.

Jesus verbietet Eide

(4. Mose 30,1-16)

Wiederum habt ihr gehört, dass den Alten gesagt ist: Du sollst nicht falsch schwören, sollst aber dem Herrn halten, was du geschworen hast.

Ich aber sage euch: Ihr sollet überhaupt nicht schwören, weder bei dem Himmel, weil er der Thron Gottes ist,

noch bei der Erde weil sie der Schemel seiner Füße ist, noch bei Jerusalem, weil sie die Stadt des großen Königs ist.

Auch bei deinem Haupte sollst du nicht schwören, weil du nicht ein einziges Haar weiß oder schwarz machen kannst.

Es sei aber eure Rede: Ja, ja; nein, nein! Was aber darüber hinaus geht, ist vom Bösen.

Geh die zweite Meile

(3. Mose 24,17-23; Lukas 6,27-36)

Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt worden: Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn.

Ich aber sage euch: Ihr sollt dem Böswilligen nicht widerstehen; sondern wenn dich jemand auf die rechte Wange geschlagen hat, so biete ihm auch die andere dar.

Und will jemand mit dir vor Gericht streiten, und dir deinen Rock nehmen, so lass ihm auch den Mantel.

Und wenn dich jemand auf tausend Schritte zum Frondienst zwingt, so geh noch zwei andere tausend mit ihm.

Dem, der dich bittet, gib; und von dem, der von dir borgen will, wende dich nicht ab.

Liebe deine Feinde

Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt worden ist: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben, und deinen Feind hassen.

Ich aber sage euch: Liebet eure Feinde, tut Gutes denen, die euch hassen, und betet für die, welche euch verfolgen und verläumden;

auf dass ihr Kinder seid eures Vaters, der im Himmel ist, welcher seine Sonne über die Guten und Bösen aufgehen lässt, und regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.

Denn wenn ihr die liebet, welche euch lieben, welchen Lohn werdet ihr haben? Tun dies nicht auch die Zöllner?

Und wenn ihr nur eure Brüder grüßet, was tut ihr da mehr? Tun dies nicht auch die Heiden?

Seiet also ihr vollkommen, wie auch euer Vater im Himmel vollkommen ist.
