- Kapitel 12 -

O Lord, if I dispute with thee, thou art righteous: yet let mee talke with thee of thy iudgements: wherefore doeth the way of the wicked prosper? why are all they in wealth that rebelliously transgresse?

Thou hast planted them, and they haue taken roote: they grow, and bring forth fruite: thou art neere in their mouth, and farre from their reines.

But thou, Lord, knowest me: thou hast seene me, and tried mine heart towarde thee: pull them out like sheepe for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

Howe long shall the lande mourne, and the herbes of euery fielde wither, for the wickednesse of them that dwell therein? the beastes are consumed and the birdes, because they sayd, He wil not see our last ende.

God’s Answer to Jeremiah

If thou hast runne with the footemen and they haue wearied thee, then howe canst thou match thy selfe with horses? and if thou thoughtest thy selfe safe in a peaceable lande, what wilt thou do in the swelling of Iorden?

For euen thy brethren, and the house of thy father, euen they haue delt vnfaithfully with thee, and they haue cryed out altogether vpon thee: but beleeue them not, though they speake faire to thee.

I haue forsaken mine house: I haue left mine heritage: I haue giuen the dearely beloued of my soule into the hands of her enemies.

Mine heritage is vnto mee, as a lion in the forest: it crieth out against mee, therefore haue I hated it.

Shall mine heritage bee vnto mee, as a bird of diuers colours? are not the birdes about her, saying, Come, assemble all ye beastes of the fielde, come to eate her?

Many pastors haue destroyed my vineyarde, and troden my portion vnder foote: of my pleasant portion they haue made a desolate wildernesse.

They haue layde it waste, and it, being waste, mourneth vnto me: and the whole lande lyeth waste, because no man setteth his minde on it.

The destroyers are come vpon all the high places in the wildernesse: for the sworde of the Lord shall deuoure from the one end of the land, euen to the other ende of the lande: no flesh shall haue peace.

They haue sowen wheate, and reaped thornes: they were sicke, and had no profite: and they were ashamed of your fruites, because of the fierce wrath of the Lord.

A Message for Israel’s Neighbors

(Amos 1:1–15)

Thus sayeth the Lord against all mine euill neighbours, that touch the inheritance, which I haue caused my people Israel to inherite, Beholde, I will plucke them out of their lande, and plucke out the house of Iudah from among them.

And after that I haue plucked them out, I will returne, and haue compassion on them, and will bring againe euery man to his heritage, and euery man to his land.

And if they will learne the wayes of my people, to sweare by my Name, (The Lord liueth, as they taught my people to sweare by Baal) then shall they be built in the middes of my people.

But if they will not obey, then will I vtterly plucke vp, and destroy that nation, sayeth the Lord.

Jeremias Frage

Gerecht bist du, Herr! wenn ich mit dir rechten wollte; gleichwohl aber möchte ich vom richterlichen Walten mit dir reden. Warum geht es den Gottlosen wohl, wohl allen, die treulos sind und Unrecht tun?

Du hast sie gepflanzt und sie schlugen Wurzeln, sie wachsen und tragen Frucht; nahe bist du ihrem Munde, aber fern von ihrem Innern.

Mich aber, Herr! kennst du und durchschaust mich und hast mein Herz gegen dich erprobt. Sammle sie wie eine Herde zum Schlachtopfer und weihe sie dem Tage des Mordens!

Wie lange noch soll das Land trauern und alles Grün der Flur verdorren? Tier und Vogel sind dahingerafft um der Bosheit ihrer Bewohner willen, da jene sprachen: Er wird unser Ende nicht sehen!

Der HERR antwortet Jeremia

Wenn du schon Mühe hast, mit Fußgängern zu laufen, wie wirst du es mit Rossen aufnehmen können? Wenn du im Lande, wo Friede ist, sicher bist, was wirst du tun bei dem Trutz des Jordans?

Denn auch deine Brüder und das Haus deines Vaters, auch sie werden wider dich kämpfen und dir mit lauter Stimme nachrufen. Traue ihnen nicht, wenn sie freundlich zu dir reden!

Ich habe mein Haus verlassen, habe meinem Erbe entsagt, meine geliebte Seele in die Hand ihrer Feinde hingegeben.

Mein Erbe ward für mich wie ein Löwe im Walde, es erhob wider mich seine Stimme, darum bin ich ihm gram geworden.

Ist denn mein Erbe für mich wie ein bunter Vogel, wie ein ganz und gar gefärbter Vogel? Kommet, sammelt euch, alle ihr Tiere des Feldes, eilet zum Fraß!

Viele Hirten haben meinen Weinberg verheert, mein Erbteil zertreten, haben mein anmutiges Erbe zur öden Wüstenei gemacht.

Sie haben es in Öde gewandelt, dass es um mich trauert; öde und wüste ist das ganze Land, weil niemand es zu Herzen nimmt.

Auf allen Wegen der Wüste kommen Plünderer heran, denn das Schwert des Herrn frißt von einem Ende des Landes bis zum andern; nichts Lebendes wird Friede haben.

Sie haben Weizen gesät und Dornen geerntet, sie haben eine Erbschaft erhalten, aber es half ihnen nichts; so werdet ihr zuschanden werden an euren Fruchternten durch den grimmigen Zorn des Herrn.

(Amos 1,1-15)

So spricht der Herr wider alle meine bösen Nachbarn, welche das Erbe antasten, das ich meinem Volke Israel zugeteilt habe: Siehe, ich will sie aus ihrem Lande hinwegreißen und das Haus Juda aus ihrer Mitte herausreißen!

Aber nachdem ich sie herausgerissen habe, werde ich mich ihrer wieder erbarmen und sie zurückführen, einen jeden zu seinem Erbteil, einen jeden in sein Land.

Und es soll geschehen: wenn sie sorgfältig meines Volkes Wege lernen, so dass sie bei meinem Namen schwören: So wahr der Herr lebt! So wie sie mein Volk beim Baal schwören lehrten, so sollen sie inmitten meines Volkes auferbaut werden.

Wenn sie aber nicht hören, so werde ich dieses Volk gänzlich ausreißen und vernichten, spricht der Herr.
