- Kapitel 11 -

The worde that came to Ieremiah from the Lord, saying,

Heare ye the wordes of this couenant, and speake vnto the men of Iudah, and to the inhabitants of Ierusalem,

And say thou vnto them, Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the wordes of this couenant,

Which I commanded vnto your fathers, when I brought them out of the lande of Egypt, from the yron fornace, saying, Obey my voyce, and doe according to all these things, which I commande you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God,

That I may confirme the othe, that I haue sworne vnto your fathers, to giue them a lande, which floweth with milke and hony, as appeareth this day. Then answered I and sayde, So be it, O Lord.

Then the Lord saide vnto me, Cry all these words in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem, saying, Heare yee the words of this couenant, and doe them.

For I haue protested vnto your fathers, whe I brought them vp out of the land of Egypt vnto this day, rising earely and protesting, saying, Obey my voyce.

Neuerthelesse they would not obey, nor encline their eare: but euery one walked in the stubbernesse of his wicked heart: therefore I will bring vpon them all the wordes of this couenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did it not.

And the Lord sayd vnto me, A conspiracie is found among the men of Iudah, and among the inhabitants of Ierusalem.

They are turned backe to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to heare my wordes: and they went after other gods to serue them: thus the house of Israel, and the house of Iudah haue broken my couenant, which I made with their fathers.

Therefore thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, I will bring a plague vpon them, which they shall not be able to escape, and though they crye vnto me, I will not heare them.

Then shall the cities of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem goe, and crie vnto the gods vnto whome they offer incense, but they shall not bee able to helpe them in time of their trouble.

For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Iudah, and according to the number of the streetes of Ierusalem haue yee set vp altars of confusion, euen altars to burne incense vnto Baal.

Therfore thou shalt not pray for this people, neither lift vp a crie, or prayer for them: for when they cry vnto mee in their trouble, I will not heare them.

What shoulde my beloued tarie in mine house, seeing they haue committed abomination with manie? and the holy flesh goeth away from thee: yet when thou doest euill, thou reioycest.

The Lord called thy name, A greene oliue tree, faire, and of goodly fruite: but with noyse and great tumult he hath set fyre vpon it, and the branches of it are broken.

For the Lord of hostes that planted thee, hath pronounced a plague against thee, for the wickednes of the house of Israel, and of the house of Iudah, which they haue done against themselues to prouoke me to anger in offering incense vnto Baal.

A Plot against Jeremiah

(Jeremiah 18:18–23)

And the Lord hath taught me, and I knowe it, euen then thou shewedst mee their practises.

But I was like a lambe, or a bullocke, that is brought to the slaughter, and I knewe not that they had deuised thus against me, saying, Let vs destroy the tree with the fruite thereof, and cut him out of the lande of the liuing, that his name may be no more in memory.

But O Lord of hostes, that iudgest righteously, and triest the reines and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cause.

The Lord therefore speaketh thus of the men of Anathoth, (that seeke thy life, and say, Prophecie not in the Name of the Lord, that thou die not by our hands)

Thus therefore sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will visite them: the yong men shall die by the sword: their sonnes and their daughters shall die by famine,

And none of them shall remaine: for I will bring a plague vpon the men of Anathoth, euen the yeere of their visitation.

Der gebrochene Bund

Wort, das an Jeremias von dem Herrn erging, also lautend:

Höret die Worte dieses Bundes und redet sie zu den Männern von Juda und zu den Bewohnern von Jerusalem

und sage zu ihnen: So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Verflucht ist der Mann, der nicht auf die Worte dieses Bundes hört,

welchen ich euern Vätern geboten am Tage, da ich sie aus dem Lande Ägypten, aus dem eisernen Ofen herausführte, indem ich sprach: Höret auf meine Stimme und tuet alles, was ich euch gebiete! So sollt ihr mein Volk sein und ich will euer Gott sein;

auf dass ich den Eidschwur aufrecht erhalte, welchen ich euern Vätern geschworen, dass ich ihnen ein Land verleihen wolle, das von Milch und Honig fließt, wie es heute ist. Da antwortete ich und sprach: So ist es, Herr!

Der Herr aber sprach zu mir: Verkünde alle diese Worte in den Städten von Juda und auf den Plätzen Jerusalems und sprich: Höret die Worte dieses Bundes und tuet nach denselben!

Denn ernstlich verwarnte ich eure Väter an dem Tage, da ich sie aus dem Lande Ägypten herausführte, bis auf diesen Tag; vom frühen Morgen an warnte ich sie und sprach: Höret auf meine Stimme!

Aber sie hörten nicht und neigten ihr Ohr nicht, sondern gingen dahin, ein jeder nach der Bosheit seines verkehrten Herzens, und so ließ ich denn alle Worte dieses Bundes, den ich geboten zu halten, den sie aber nicht gehalten haben, über sie kommen.

Und der Herr sprach zu mir: Es besteht eine Verschwörung unter den Männern von Juda und den Bewohnern von Jerusalem.

Sie sind zurückgekehrt zu den alten Sünden ihrer Väter, welche auf meine Worte nicht hören wollten, auch sie gehen fremden Göttern nach, diesen zu dienen; gebrochen hat das Haus Israel und das Haus Juda meinen Bund, den ich mit ihren Vätern geschlossen habe.

Darum spricht der Herr also: Siehe, ich werde Unglück über sie bringen, aus dem sie nicht zu entrinnen vermögen; wenn sie dann zu mir rufen, werde ich sie nicht erhören.

Und wenn die Städte Judas und die Bewohner Jerusalems hingehen und zu den Göttern rufen, denen sie opfern, so werden diese ihnen nicht helfen zur Zeit ihrer Bedrängnis.

Denn so zahlreich deine Städte sind, so zahlreich waren deine Götter, o Juda! Und soviel du Straßen hast, Jerusalem! so viele Schandaltäre hast du aufgestellt, den Baalen zu opfern.

So bete du denn nicht für dieses Volk und bringe für sie nicht Lobgesang und Flehen dar; denn ich werde durchaus nicht hören zur Zeit, wo sie zu mir rufen, zur Zeit ihrer Bedrängnis.

Warum hat mein Geliebter so viele Freveltaten in meinem Hause verübt? Wird etwa das geheiligte Opferfleisch deine Bosheit von dir nehmen, deren du dich rühmtest?

Einen prangenden, schönen, fruchttragenden, stattlichen Ölbaum nannte dich der Herr; aber nun loderte unter heftigem Prasseln gewaltiges Feuer an ihm auf und verbrannt sind seine Zweige.

Denn der Herr der Heerscharen, der dich gepflanzt hat, hat dir Schlimmes angedroht um der Bosheit des Hauses Israel und des Hauses Juda willen, die sie sich verübt, mich zum Zorne zu reizen, indem sie den Baalen opferten.

Jeremias Leben ist bedroht

(Jeremia 18,18-23)

Du aber, o Herr! hast es mir kundgetan und ich erfuhr es, damals zeigtest du mir ihr Treiben.

Ich aber war wie ein sanftes Lamm, das zur Schlachtbank geführt wird, und wusste nicht, dass sie wider mich Anschläge planten und sprachen: Lasset uns Holz an sein Brot legen und ihn austilgen aus dem Lande der Lebendigen, dass seines Namens nicht ferner mehr gedacht werde!

Du aber, Herr Sabaoth! der du gerecht richtest und Nieren und Herzen prüfst, lass mich deine Rache an ihnen schauen; denn dir habe ich meine Sache anvertraut.

Darum spricht der Herr also über die Männer von Anathoth, welche dir nach dem Leben trachten und sagen: Weissage nicht im Namen des Herrn, dass du nicht durch unsere Hände sterbest!

Darum spricht der Herr der Heerscharen also: Siehe, ich will es an ihnen ahnden: Ihre Jünglinge sollen durch das Schwert umkommen, ihre Söhne und Töchter sollen Hungers sterben.

Und niemand von ihnen soll übrigbleiben, denn ich werde Unglück über die Männer von Anathoth bringen, ein Jahr der Heimsuchung für sie.
