- Kapitel 26 -

(Numbers 1:1–4)

It came about after the plague that Yahweh spoke to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron the priest. He said,

“Count all the community of the people of Israel, from twenty years old and up, by their ancestor’s families, all who are able to go to war for Israel.”

So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke to them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho and said,

“Count the people, from twenty years old and up, as Yahweh commanded Moses and the people of Israel, who came out of the land of Egypt.”

The Tribe of Reuben

Reuben was the firstborn of Israel. From his son Hanoch came the clan of the Hanochites. From Pallu came the clan of the Palluites.

From Hezron came the clan of the Hezronites. From Carmi came the clan of the Carmites.

These were the clans of Reuben’s descendants, who numbered 43,730 men.

Eliab was a son of Pallu.

Eliab’s sons were Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These were the same Dathan and Abiram who followed Korah when they challenged Moses and Aaron and rebelled against Yahweh.

The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah when all his followers died. At that time, fire devoured 250 men, who became a warning sign.

But Korah’s line did not die out.

The Tribe of Simeon

The clans of Simeon’s descendants were these: by Nemuel, the clan of the Nemuelites, by Jamin, the clan of the Jaminites, by Jachin, the clan of the Jachinites,

by Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites, by Shaul, the clan of the Shaulites.

These were the clans of Simeon’s descendants, who numbered 22,200 men.

The Tribe of Gad

The clans of Gad’s descendants were these: by Zephon, the clan of the Zephonites, by Haggi, the clan of the Haggites, by Shuni, the clan of the Shunites,

by Ozni, the clan of the Oznites, by Eri, the clan of the Erites,

by Arod, the clan of the Arodites, by Areli, the clan of the Arelites.

These were the clans of Gad’s descendants, who numbered 40,500 men.

The Tribe of Judah

Judah’s sons were Er and Onan, but these men died in the land of Canaan.

The clans of Judah’s other descendants were these: by Shelah, the clan of the Shelanites, by Perez, the clan of the Perezites, and by Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites.

The descendants of Perez were these: by Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites, by Hamul, the clan of the Hamulites.

These were the clans of Judah’s descendants, who numbered 76,500 men.

The Tribe of Issachar

The clans of Issachar’s descendants were these: by Tola, the clan of the Tolaites, by Puvah, the clan of the Punites,

by Jashub, the clan of the Jashubites, by Shimron, the clan of the Shimronites.

These were the clans of Issachar, who numbered 64,300 men.

The Tribe of Zebulun

The clans of Zebulun’s descendants were these: By Sered, the clan of the Seredites, by Elon, the clan of the Elonites, by Jahleel, the clan of the Jahleelites.

These were the clans of the Zebulunites, who numbered 60,500 men.

The Tribe of Manasseh

The clans of Joseph’s descendants were Manasseh and Ephraim.

The descendants of Manasseh were these: by Machir, the clan of the Machirites, Machir was Gilead’s father, by Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites.

Gilead’s descendants were these: by Iezer, the clan of the Iezerites, by Helek, the clan of the Helekites,

by Asriel, the clan of the Asrielites, by Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites,

by Shemida, the clan of the Shemidaites, by Hepher, the clan of the Hepherites.

Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, but only daughters. The names of his daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

These were the clans of Manasseh, who numbered 52,700 men.

The Tribe of Ephraim

The clans of Ephraim’s descendants were these: by Shuthelah, the clan of the Shuthelahites, by Becher, the clan of the Becherites, by Tahan, the clan of the Tahanites.

The descendants of Shuthelah were, by Eran, the clan of the Eranites.

These were the clans of Ephraim’s descendants, who numbered 32,500 men. These were Joseph’s descendants, counted in each of their clans.

The Tribe of Benjamin

The clans of Benjamin’s descendants were these: by Bela, the clan of the Belaites, by Ashbel, the clan of the Ashbelites, by Ahiram, the clan of the Ahiramites,

by Shephupham, the clan of the Shuphamites, by Hupham, the clan of the Huphamites.

Bela’s sons were Ard and Naaman. From Ard came the clan of the Ardites, and from Naaman came the clan of the Naamites.

These were the clans of Benjamin’s descendants. They numbered 45,600 men.

The Tribe of Dan

The clans of Dan’s descendants were, by Shuham, the clans of the Shuhamites. These were the clans of Dan’s descendants.

All the clans of the Shuhamites numbered 64,400 men.

The Tribe of Asher

The clans of Asher’s descendants were these: by Imnah, the clan of the Imnites, by Ishvi, the clan of the Ishvites, by Beriah, the clan of the Berites.

The descendants of Beriah were these: by Heber, the clan of the Heberites, by Malchiel, the clan of the Malchielites.

The name of Asher’s daughter was Serah.

These were the clans of Asher’s descendants, who numbered 53,400 men.

The Tribe of Naphtali

The clans of Naphtali’s descendants were these: By Jahzeel, the clan of the Jahzeelites, by Guni, the clan of the Gunites,

by Jezer, the clan of the Jezerites, by Shillem, the clan of the Shillemites.

These were the clans of Naphtali’s descendants, who numbered 45,400 men.

This was the complete count of men among the people of Israel: 601,730.

Inheritance by Lot

Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,

“The land must be divided among these men as an inheritance according to the number of their names.

To the larger clans you must give more inheritance, and to the smaller clans you must give less inheritance. To every family you must give an inheritance according to the number of men who were counted.

However, the land must be divided by random lots. They must inherit the land as it will be divided among their ancestors’ tribes.

Their inheritance must be divided among the larger and the smaller clans, distributed to them by random lot.”

The Levites Numbered

The Levite clans, counted clan by clan, were these: By Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites, by Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites, by Merari, the clan of the Merarites.

The clans of Levi were these: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, and the clan of the Korahites. Kohath was the Amram’s ancestor.

The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, a descendant of Levi, who was born to Levites in Egypt. She bore to Amram their children, who were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam their sister.

To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

Nadab and Abihu died when they offered before Yahweh unacceptable fire.

The males who were counted among them numbered twenty-three thousand, all males one month old and up. But they were not counted among Israel’s descendants because no inheritance was given to them among the people of Israel.

Only Caleb and Joshua Remain

These are the ones who were counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest. They counted the people of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

But among these there was no man who had been counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when the descendants of Israel were counted in the wilderness of Sinai.

For Yahweh had said that all of those people would certainly die in the wilderness. There was not a man left among them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

(4. Mose 1,1-4)

Als nun das Blut der Schuldigen vergossen war, sprach der Herr zu Moses und Eleazar, dem Sohne Aarons, dem Priester:

Zählet die Gesamtzahl der Söhne Israels, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, Haus um Haus, und Geschlecht um Geschlecht, alle, welche in den Krieg ziehen können.

Und Moses und Eleazar, der Priester, redeten in den Ebenen von Moab am Jordan, Jericho gegenüber, zu denen, welche

zwanzig Jahre und darüber alt waren, wie der Herr befohlen hatte, und dies ist ihre Zahl:

Ruben, der Erstgeborne von Israel. Dessen Sohn war Henoch, von welchem die Familie der Henochiter: Phallu, von welchem die Familie der Phalluiter;

Hesron, von welchem die Familie der Hesroniter; und Charmi, von welchem die Familie der Charmiter herstammt.

Das sind die Familien vom Stamme Ruben; ihre Zahl betrug dreiundvierzigtausend siebenhundert und dreißig.

Der Sohn Phallus war Eliab.

Eliabs Söhne waren Namuel, Dathan, und Abiron. Das sind jene Dathan und Abiron, Fürsten des Volkes, die sich gegen Moses und Aaron im Aufruhre Kores erhoben, als sie sich gegen den Herrn auflehnten;

worauf die Erde ihren Mund auftat und Kore verschlang, und sehr viele starben, als das Feuer zweihundert fünfzig Männer verzehrte. Da geschah ein großes Wunder,

dass, während Kore umkam, seine Söhne nicht umkamen.

Die Söhne Simeons waren nach ihren Familien: Namuel, von welchem die Familie der Namueliter; Jamin, von welchem die Familie der Jaminiter; Jachin, von welchem die Familie der Jachiniter;

Zare, von welchem die Familie der Zareiter; Saul, von welchem die Familie der Sauliter herstammt.

Das sind die Familien vom Stämme Simeon; ihre Gesamtzahl war zweiundzwanzigtausend zweihundert.

Die Söhne Gads waren nach ihren Familien: Sephon, von welchem die Familie der Sephoniter; Aggi, von welchem die Familie der Aggiter; Suni, von welchem die Familie der Suniter;

Ozni, von welchem die Familie der Ozniter; Her, von welchem die Familie der Heriter;

Arod, von welchem die Familie der Aroditer: Ariel, von welchem die Familie der Arieliter herstammt.

Das sind die Familien Gads; ihre Gesamtzahl war vierzigtausend fünfhundert.

Die Söhne Judas waren Her und Onan, die beide im Lande Chanaan starben.

Und die Söhne Judas waren nach ihren Geschlechtern: Sela, von welchem die Familie der Selaiter; Phares, von welchem die Familie der Pharesiter; Zare, von welchem die Familie der Zareiter herstammt.

Und die Söhne Phares waren: Hesron, von welchem die Familie der Hesroniter; und Hamul, von welchem die Familie der Hamuliter herstammt.

Das sind die Familien Judas, deren Gesamtzahl sechsundsiebzigtausend fünfhundert war.

Die Söhne Issachars waren nach ihren Familien: Thola, von welchem die Familie der Tholaiter; Phua, von welchem die Familie der Phuaiter;

Jasub, von welchem die Familie der Jasubiter; Semran, von welchem die Familie der Semraniter herstammt.

Das sind die Geschlechter Issachars, deren Zahl vierundsechzigtausend dreihundert war.

Die Söhne Zabulons waren nach ihren Geschlechtern: Sared, von welchem die Familie der Sarediter; Elon, von welchem die Familie der Eloniter; Jalel, von welchem die Familie der Jaleliter herstammt.

Das sind die Geschlechter Zabulons, ihre Zahl war sechzigtausend fünfhundert.

Die Söhne Josephs waren nach ihren Geschlechtern: Manasse und Ephraim.

Von Manasse stammte Machir ab, von welchem die Familie der Machiriter sich herleitet. Machir zeugte Galaad, von welchem das Geschlecht der Galaaditer stammt.

Die Söhne Galaads waren: Jezer, von welchem die Familie der Jezeriter; Helek, von welchem die Familie der Helekiter;

Asriel, von welchem die Familie der Asrieliter; Sechem, von welchem die Familie der Sechemiter;

Semida, von welchem die Familie der Semidaiter; und Hepher, von welchem die Familie der Hepheriter stammt.

Aber Hepher war der Vater Salphaads, der keine Söhne, sondern nur Töchter hatte, und dies sind ihre Namen: Maala, Noa, Hegla, Melcha und Thersa.

Das sind die Familien Manasses, deren Anzahl zweiundfünfzigtausend siebenhundert war.

Die Söhne Ephraims aber waren nach ihren Geschlechtern diese: Suthala, von welchem die Familie der Suthalaiter; Becher, von welchem die Familie der Becheriter; Theben, von welchem die Familie der Thebeniter stammt.

Und der Sohn Suthalas war Heran, von welchem die Familie der Heraniter herstammt.

Das sind die Geschlechter der Söhne Ephraims, ihre Zahl war zweiunddreißigtausend fünfhundert.

Das sind die Söhne Josephs nach ihren Familien. Die Söhne Benjamins nach ihren Geschlechtern waren: Bela, von welchem die Familie der Belaiter; Asbel, von welchem die Familie der Asbeliter; Ahiram, von welchem die Familie der Ahiramiter;

Supham, von welchem die Familie der Suphamiter; Hupham, von welchem die Familie der Huphamiter stammt.

Die Söhne Belas waren: Hered und Noeman. Von Hered stammt die Familie der Herediter; von Noeman die Familie der Noemaniter.

Das sind die Söhne Benjamins nach ihren Geschlechtern, deren Zahl fünfundvierzigtausend sechshundert war.

Die Söhne Dans nach ihren Geschlechtern waren: Suham, von welchem die Familie der Suhamiter herstammt. Das sind die Geschlechter Dans nach ihren Familien.

Alle waren Suhamiter, und ihre Zahl vierundsechzigtausend vierhundert.

Die Söhne Asers nach ihren Geschlechtern waren: Jemna, von welchem die Familie der Jemnaiter; Jessui, von welchem die Familie der Jessuiter; Brie, von welchem die Familie der Brieiter stammt.

Die Söhne Bries waren: Heber, von welchem die Familie der Heberiter; und Melchiel, von welchem die Familie der Melchieliter herstammt.

Der Name der Tochter Asers aber war Sara.

Das sind die Geschlechter der Söhne Asers, und ihre Zahl war dreiundfünfzigtausend vierhundert.

Die Söhne Nephthalis waren nach ihren Geschlechtern: Jesiel, von welchem die Familie der Jesieliter; Guni, von welchem die Familie der Guniter;

Jeser, von welchem die Familie der Jeseriter; Sellem, von welchem die Familie der Sellemiter herstammt.

Das sind die Geschlechter der Söhne Nephthalis nach ihren Familien; ihre Zahl war fünfundvierzigtausend vierhundert.

Dies ist die Gesamtzahl der Söhne Israels, die gezählt wurden: sechshundert eintausend siebenhundert und dreißig.

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:

Unter diesen soll das Land nach der Zahl ihrer Namen als ihr Besitz verteilt werden.

Denen, die zahlreicher sind, wirst du einen größeren, und denen, die weniger zahlreich sind, einen kleineren Teil geben; jedem soll nach der Zahl, wie sie jetzt gezählt worden sind, ein Erbbesitz zugewiesen werden.

doch so, dass das Land unter den Stämmen und Familien nach dem Lose verteilt wird.

Was durch das Los zufällt, sollen die, welche zahlreich sind, wie die, welche weniger zahlreich sind, als ihren Anteil erhalten.

Und dies ist die Zahl der Söhne Levis nach ihren Familien: Gerson, von welchem die Familie der Gersoniter; Kaath, von welchem die Familie der Kaathiter; Merari, von welchem die Familie der Merariter stammt.

Dies sind die Familien Levis: Die Familie Lobni, die Familie Hebroni, die Familie Moholi, die Familie Musi, die Familie Kore. Kaath aber zeugte den Amram,

der Jochabed, die Tochter Levis, zum Weibe hatte, welche diesem in Ägypten geboren ward; diese gebar ihrem Manne Amram die Söhne Aaron und Moses und deren Schwester Maria.

Von Aaron stammte Nadab, Abiu, Eleazar, und Ithamar ab;

von diesen starben Nadab und Abiu, als sie fremdes Feuer vor den Herrn brachten.

Alle also, welche gezählt wurden, waren zusammen dreiundzwanzigtausend männlichen Geschlechtes von einem Monate an und darüber; denn sie wurden nicht unter den Söhnen Israels gezählt und es ward ihnen kein Erbbesitz mit den übrigen gegeben.

Das ist die Zahl der Söhne Israels, welche von Moses und Eleazar, dem Priester, in den Ebenen Moabs am Jordan, Jericho gegenüber, aufgeschrieben wurden.

Unter diesen war keiner mehr von denen, welche vorher von Moses und Aaron in der Wüste Sinai gezählt waren;

denn der Herr hatte vorherverkündet, dass alle in der Wüste sterben würden. So war denn keiner von ihnen übriggeblieben, als Kaleb, der Sohn Jephones, und Josue, der Sohn Nuns.
