- Kapitel 12 -

Instruction and knowledge

The one who wants to learn will welcome correction. But the one who does not want to be corrected will remain stupid.

Yahweh approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who make evil plans.

Wickedness is a bad foundation for a person’s life. People who do well are as stable as a tree with deep roots.

A good wife brings praise to her husband, but a wife who brings shame home is like a disease that destroys his bones.

People who do the right thing make plans that are fair and just. But advice given by wicked people are filled with lies.

What wicked people say is like setting up a secret attack while planning to commit murder; but when those who please Yahweh speak, their words keep them out of danger.

Wicked people are put out of power, and they are gone, but those who do what is right will have many generations and that family will continue for a long time.

A person will be praised according to how much wisdom he has; but one who takes good things and twists them into bad will be hated.

Concern for the life of the livestock and the land

It is better to be a humble person, just living your life as a servant to others, than to tell others how important you are, but you have nothing to eat.

People who do what is right care about the feeding and health of their animals, but even when the wicked try to do something for their animals, it becomes an act of cruelty.

The farmer who works hard in the fields will have enough food to eat, but those who have no good judgment take on projects that bring them nothing.

Wicked people desire the things that evil people have, things they stole from others. But people who do what is right have what they have earned; it is their reward.

An evil person is trapped by the wicked things he says, but those who do right stay away from much trouble.

The good words spoken by a person fill his life with good things, just as his hard work brings him a reward.

Wise and foolish

Foolish people think that what they are doing is always right; but wise people are willing to listen to advice.

A foolish person quickly shows how angry he is; but those who have good sense ignore it when someone insults them.

Speaking the truth is the same as saying what is right, but a dishonest person tells lies.

When a person speaks without thinking, it is like they are taking stabs at you with a sword; but what wise people say helps to heal the hurts.

Speaking the truth will never be out of favor, but a lie is over in a moment.

When evil is planned there must be lies within those who carry it out; but those who give advice that leads to peace, those advisors will celebrate.

Bad things do not happen to those who do what is right, but wicked people’s lives are filled up with troubles.

Yahweh detests those who tell lies, but he is delighted with those who live faithfully.

Those with good sense do not reveal all that they know, but foolish people shout out their foolish thinking.

Those who are known for their hard work will gain authority over others, but those who are lazy will be forced to work, even though they hate it.

When a person is anxious, it is like he is carrying a heavy load, but a good word makes him feel better.
26
The one who does right will be a good guide for his friend, but wicked people always get lost.
27
Lazy people do not even cook the animal they caught, but those who work hard will acquire wealth that is worth keeping.
28
Those who walk in the right way find life and on that road there is no death.

Unterweisung und Wissen

Wer Zucht liebt, liebt Erkenntnis; wer aber Rüge haßt, ist ein Tor.

Wer gut ist, wird von dem Herrn Gnade erlangen; wer aber auf seine eigenen Gedanken baut, handelt gottlos.

Niemand hat durch Frevel Bestand, aber die Wurzel der Gerechten bleibt unerschütterlich.

Eine fleißige Frau ist die Krone ihres Mannes; aber die, welche Schmachwürdiges tut, ist wie Fäulnis in seinen Gebeinen.

Die Gedanken der Gerechten gehen auf Recht, aber die Pläne der Bösen auf Betrug.

Die Reden der Bösen lauern auf Blut, der Mund der Gerechten befreit diese.

Wende die Gottlosen um, und sie sind nicht mehr; aber das Haus der Gerechten hat Bestand.

Man kennt den Mann aus seiner Lehre; wer aber eitel und töricht ist, setzt sich der Verachtung aus.

Sorge um das Leben des Viehs und des Bodens

Besser ist es, arm und genügsam zu sein, als groß zu tun und kein Brot zu haben.

Der Gerechte kennt auch das Begehren seines Viehes, aber das Herz der Gottlosen ist unbarmherzig.

Wer sein Land baut, sättigt sich mit Brot; wer aber dem Müßiggange nachhängt, ist ein großer Tor. Wer seine Zeit gern bei Weingelagen verbringt, hinterlässt Schmach in seiner Wohnung.

Das Verlangen des Gottlosen ist ein Bollwerk für die Bösen, aber die Wurzel der Gerechten gedeiht.

Wegen der Sünden der Lippen naht der Fall für den Bösen, der Gerechte aber entgeht der Bedrängnis.

Von der Frucht, die eines jeden Mund gibt, sättigt er sich am Guten und nach dem, was seine Hände vollbringen, wird ihm vergolten.

Klug und töricht

Der Weg des Toren ist der rechte in seinen Augen; wer aber weise ist, hört auf Rat.

Der Tor lässt alsbald seinen Zorn merken; wer sich aber die Unbill nicht anmerken lässt, ist klug.

Wer sagt, was er weiß, spricht, was recht ist; wer aber lügt, ist ein trügerischer Zeuge.

Manche versprechen und werden darnach wie mit Schwertstreich des Gewissens durchbohrt, aber die Zunge der Weisen bringt Heilung.

Wahrhaftige Lippen bestehen auf immer, ein vorschneller Zeuge aber spitzt die Zunge zu Lügen.

Trug ist im Herzen derer, die auf Böses sinnen; denen aber, die zum Frieden raten, wird Freude zuteil.

Den Gerechten beugt nichts nieder, was ihm auch widerfährt; die Gottlosen aber werden mit Unglück überhäuft.

Lügenhafte Lippen sind dem Herrn ein Greuel; die aber Treue üben, gefallen ihm.

Ein kluger Mann verbirgt seine Einsicht, aber der Toren Herz ruft Narrheit aus.

Die Hand der Starken wird herrschen; die lässige aber muss zinsbar werden.

Gram im Herzen des Mannes drückt ihn nieder, aber ein gutes Wort erfreut ihn.

Wer um seines Freundes willen einen Schaden nicht achtet, ist gerecht, aber der Gottlosen Weg führt sie Irre.

Ein Betrüger wird seinen Gewinn finden, aber die Habe des Mannes ist Goldes wert.
28
Auf dem Pfade der Gerechtigkeit ist Leben, aber der Abweg führt zum Tode.
