Rebuilding the wall

Then Eliashib, the high priest of Israel, working with the other priests, rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They set it apart for the honor of Yahweh, and set the doors of the gate in place. Then they rebuilt the wall as far as the Tower of the Hundred, and they set it apart to honor Yahweh. They also rebuilt the Tower of Hananel.

Next to them, men from Jericho were rebuilding. Next to them, Zaccur son of Imri, was rebuilding.

The sons of Hassenaah built the fish Gate. They laid in the wooden beams above the gates, and also set the doors in place. Then they affixed the bolt and the bars for a strong lock.

Next to them, Meremoth, the son of Uriah and grandson of Hakkoz, repaired the walls to make them strong. Next to him, Meshullam son of Berekiah and grandson of Meshezabel, repaired part of the wall. Next to him, Zadok son of Baana repaired part of the wall.

Next to him, Tekoites repaired part of the wall, but the leaders of Tekoa refused to do the work that their supervisors assigned to them.

Joiada son of Paseah, and Meshullam son of Besodeiah, repaired the Old Gate. They also put in their places the beams above the gate and put in the bolts and the bars for locking the gate.

Next to them Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, who were men from Gibeon and Mizpah, made repairs on the portion where the governor of the province beyond the River lived.

Next to him, Uzziel son of Harhaiah, and Hananiah, but they worked on a section of the wall as far as the Broad Wall. Harhaiah made things from gold, and Hananiah made perfumes.

Next to them, Rephaiah son of Hur, who ruled half of the district of Jerusalem, repaired part of the wall.

Next to him, Jedaiah son of Harumaph repaired part of the wall near his house. Next to him, Hattush son of Hashabneiah repaired part of the wall.

Malchijah son of Harim, and Hashub son of Pahathmoab, repaired a section of the wall, and also repaired the Tower of the Ovens.

Next to him, Shallum son of Hallohesh, who ruled the other half of the district of Jerusalem, repaired part of the wall. His daughters helped him with the work.

Hanun and people from the city of Zanoah repaired the Valley Gate. They put the gates in their places, and also put in the bolts and bars for locking the gate. They repaired the wall for 460 meters, as far as the Dung Gate.

Malchijah son of Recab, who ruled the district of Beth Haccherem, repaired the Dung Gate. He also put in their places the bolts and bars for locking the gate.

Shallum son of Colhozeh, who ruled the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate. He put a roof over the gate, and put in their places the gates and the bolts and the bars for locking the gate. Near the Pool of Siloam he built the wall next to the king’s garden, as far as the steps that went down from the city of David.

Next to him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, who ruled half of the district of Beth Zur, repaired the wall as far as the tombs in the city of David, to the pool that was man-made, and to the House of the Heroes.

Next to him, several descendants of Levi who helped the priests repaired parts of the wall. Rehum son of Bani repaired one section. Hashabiah, who ruled half of the district of Keilah, repaired the next section on behalf of the people of his district.

Binnui son of Henadad, who ruled the other half of the district of Keilah, repaired the next section along with other descendants of Levi.

Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, who ruled the city of Mizpah, repaired another section in front of the steps which went up to the armory, up to the point where there is a buttress at the corner of the wall.

Next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai repaired a section of the wall with great enthusiasm. He worked on the section from the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest to the end of his house.

Next to him, Meremoth son of Uriah and grandson of Hakkoz repaired a section from the door of Eliashib’s house to the end of his house.

Next to him, several priests repaired parts of the wall. The priests from the area near Jerusalem repaired one section.

Next to them, Benjamin and Hasshub repaired a section in front of their house. Azariah son of Maaseiah and grandson of Ananiah, repaired the next section in front of his house.

Next to him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired a section, from Azariah’s house to where the wall turns a bit.

Next to him, Palal son of Uzai repaired a section, from where the wall turns and from where the watchtower is taller than the upper palace. The watchtower is near the courtyard where the guards lived. Next to Palal, Pedaiah son of Parosh repaired the wall.

Next to him the temple servants repaired a section facing the Water Gate on the east side of the tall tower.

Next to him, the Tekoites repaired a second section that was in front of the tall tower as far as the wall of Ophel.

A group of priests repaired the wall north from the Horse Gate. Each one repaired the section in front of his own house.

Next to them, Zadok son of Immer repaired the section in front of his house. Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, who was the gatekeeper at the east gate, repaired the next section.

Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired a section. That was the second section that they repaired. After him Meshullam son of Berechiah repaired the walls in the section that faced the rooms where he lived.

Next to them, Malchijah, who also made things from gold, repaired a section as far as the building used by the temple servants and merchants, which was in front of the Appointment Gate and the upper apartments on the corner.

Other men who worked with gold, making beautiful things, along with merchants, repaired the last section of the wall as far as the Sheep Gate.

Wiederaufbau der Mauer

Da machten sich Eliasib, der Hohepriester, und seine Brüder, die Priester, auf und bauten das Schaftor; sie weihten es und setzten seine Torflügel ein und sie weihten es bis zum Turme der hundert Ellen, bis zum Turme Hananeel.

Neben ihm bauten die Männer von Jericho und auf der andern Seite baute Zachur, der Sohn Amris.

Das Fischtor aber bauten die Söhne Asnaas, sie statteten es mit Balken aus und setzten seine Pforten und Schlösser und Riegel ein. Neben ihnen baute Marimuth, der Sohn Urias, des Sohnes Akkus.

Neben ihm baute Mosollam, der Sohn Barachias, des Sohnes Mesezebels; neben diesen baute Sadok, der Sohn Baanas.

Neben ihnen bauten die Thekuiter, die Vornehmen unter ihnen aber boten ihre Nacken nicht zum Dienste für das Werk ihres Herrn.

Und das alte Tor bauten Jojada, der Sohn Phaseas, und Mosollam, der Sohn Besodias; sie versahen es mit Balken und setzten seine Pforten und Schlösser und Riegel ein.

Neben ihnen bauten Meltias, der Gabaoniter, und Jadon, der Meronathiter, die Männer von Gabaon und Maspha für den Statthalter, welcher in der Landschaft jenseits des Flusses war.

Neben diesem baute Eziel, der Sohn Arajas, der Goldschmied, und neben ihm baute Ananias, der Sohn des Salbenmischers; sie ließen Jerusalem bis zur Mauer an der breiten Straße.

Neben diesem baute Raphaja, der Sohn Hurs, der Oberste über einen Teil von Jerusalem.

Neben diesem baute Jedaja, der Sohn Haromaphs, seinem Hause gegenüber; neben diesem baute Hattus, der Sohn Hasebonias.

Die Hälfte eines Stadtteiles baute Melchias der Sohn Herems, und Hasub, der Sohn Phahath-Moabs, und den Ofenturm.

Neben ihm baute Sellum, der Sohn Alohes, der Oberste der Hälfte eines Stadtteiles von Jerusalem, er und seine Töchter.

Das Taltor bauten Hanun und die Einwohner von Zanoe, diese bauten es und setzten seine Pforten und Schlösser und Riegel ein und bauten tausend Ellen an der Mauer bis zum Misttore.

Das Misttor baute Melchias, der Sohn Rechabs, der Oberste des Bezirkes von Bethacharam; er baute es und setzte seine Pforten und Schlösser und Riegel ein.

Das Quelltor baute Sellum, der Sohn Cholhozas, der Oberste des Bezirkes von Maspha; er baute es und versah es mit Balken und setzte seine Pforten und Schlösser und Riegel ein, außerdem auch die Mauern am Teiche Siloe bei dem Garten des Königs bis an die Stufen, die von der Davidsstadt herabführen.

Nach ihm baute Nehemias, der Sohn Azboks, der Oberste über die Hälfte des Bezirkes von Bethsur, bis gegen das Grab Davids und bis zu dem mit großer Mühe angelegten Teiche und bis an das Haus der Helden.

Nach ihm bauten die Leviten: Rehum, der Sohn Bennis, nach diesem baute Hasebias, der Oberste über die Hälfte des Bezirkes von Keila in seinem Stadtteile.

Nach ihm bauten ihre Brüder: Bavai, der Sohn Enadads, der Oberste über die Hälfte des Bezirkes von Keila;

und neben ihm baute Azer, der Sohn Josues, der Fürst von Maspha, ein zweites Stück bei der Anhöhe des festen Winkels.

Nach ihm baute auf dem Berge Baruch, der Sohn Zachais, ein zweites Stück von dem Winkel bis zum Tore des Hauses des Hohenpriesters Eliasib.

Nach ihm baute Merimuth, der Sohn des Urias, des Sohnes Hakkus, das folgende Stück vom Tore des Hauses Eliasibs an, so weit sich das Haus Eliasibs erstreckte.

Und nach ihm bauten die Priester aus der Ebene des Jordan.

Darnach bauten Benjamin und Hasub, ihrem Hause gegenüber; und darnach baute Azarias, der Sohn Maasias, des Sohnes Ananias, seinem Hause gegenüber.

Nach ihm baute Bennui, der Sohn Henadads, ein weiteres Stück vom Hause Azarias an bis an den Winkel und bis an die Beugung.

Phalel, der Sohn Ozis, baute gegenüber dem Winkel und dem vom Königshause hervorragenden Türme, das ist am Kerkerhofe; nach ihm Phadaja, der Sohn Pharos.

Die Nathinäer aber nahmen in Ophel Wohnung bis an das Wassertor gegen Aufgang und bis an den Turm, der hervorsprang.

Darnach bauten die Thekuiter ein zweites Stück gegenüber, vom großen hervorspringenden Turme an bis zur Mauer des Tempels.

Vom Roßtore aufwärts bauten die Priester, ein jeder seinem Hause gegenüber.

Nach ihnen baute Sadok, der Sohn Emmers, seinem Hause gegenüber. Nach diesem baute Semaja, der Sohn Sechenias, der Hüter des Osttores.

Nach diesem baute Hanania, der Sohn Selemias, und Hanun, der sechste Sohn Selephs, das folgende Stück; nach ihm baute Mosollam, der Sohn Barachias, seinem Vorratshause gegenüber. Nach diesem baute Melchias, der Sohn des Goldschmieds, bis zum Hause der Nathinäer und der Krämer, dem Gerichtstor gegenüber, und bis an das Eckgemach.

Und zwischen dem Eckgemache und dem Schaftore bauten die Goldschmiede und die Händler.
