- Kapitel 22 -

(Matthew 26:1–5; Mark 14:1–2; John 11:45–57)

It was now almost time for the Celebration of Unleavened Bread, which people also call the Passover.

Now the chief priests and the teachers of the Jewish laws were looking for a way to kill Jesus because they feared the people who followed him.

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

(Matthew 26:14–16; Mark 14:10–11)

Then Satan entered into Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples.

He went and talked with the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard about how he might turn Jesus over to them.

They were very pleased that he wanted to do that. They offered to pay him money for doing this.

So Judas agreed, and then he started looking for a way to help them arrest Jesus when there was no crowd around him.

Preparing the Passover

(Matthew 26:17–19; Mark 14:12–16)

Then the Day of Unleavened Bread came, the day when the lambs for the Passover Celebration had to be killed.

So Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the meal for the Passover Celebration for us so we can eat it together.”

They replied to him, “Where do you want us to prepare to eat it?”

He answered, “Listen carefully. When you go into the city, a man carrying a large jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house that he enters.

Say to the owner of the house, ‘Our teacher says to show us the room where he can eat the Passover meal together with us, his disciples.’

He will show you a large room that is on the upper floor of the house. It will be all set up, with everything ready for guests. Prepare the meal for us there.”

So the two disciples went into the city. They found everything to be just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the meal for the Passover Celebration there.

The Last Supper

(Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; 1 Corinthians 11:17–34)

When it was time to eat the meal, Jesus came and sat down with the apostles.

He said to them, “I have wanted very much to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer and die.

I tell you, I will not eat it again until I do so when God rules everyone everywhere, when he finishes what he started to do in the Passover.”

Then he took a cup of wine and thanked God for it. He said, “Take this, and share it among yourselves.

For I tell you that I will not drink any of this wine again until God rules everyone everywhere.”

Then he took some bread and thanked God for it. He broke it into pieces and gave it to them to eat. As he did so, he said, “This bread is my body, which I am about to sacrifice for you. Do this later to honor me.”

In the same way, after they had eaten the meal, he took the cup of wine and said, “This is the new covenant I will make using my own blood, which will pour out for you.

But, look! The person who will hand me over to my enemies is here eating with me.

Indeed, I, the Son of Man, will die, because that is what God has planned. But how terrible it will be for the man who hands me over to my enemies!”

Then the apostles began to ask one another, “Which one of us is planning to do this thing?”

Who Is the Greatest?

After that, the apostles began to argue among themselves; they said, “Which one of us will have the most honor when Jesus becomes king?”

Jesus answered them, “The kings of the Gentile nations like to show people that they are powerful. Yet they give themselves the title, ‘ones who help the people.’

But you should not be like those rulers! Instead, the most honored persons among you should act as if they were the youngest, and the one who leads must act like a servant.

For you know that the important person is the one who eats at the table, not the servant who brings the food. But I am your servant.

You are the persons who have stayed with me during all the hard things I have suffered.

So now, I will make you powerful officials when God rules everyone, just as my Father appointed me to rule as a king.

You will sit and eat and drink with me when I become king. In fact, you will sit on thrones to judge the people of the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

(Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31; John 13:36–38)

“Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has asked God to let him test you, like someone shakes grain in a sieve, and God has permitted him to do it.

But I have prayed for you, Simon, that you will not completely stop believing in me. So when you come back to me, give courage again to these men, your brothers.

Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison; I am willing to die with you!”

Jesus replied, “Peter, I want you to know that this night, before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you do not know me!”

Then Jesus asked the disciples, “When I sent you out to the villages, and you went without any money, food, or sandals, was there anything you needed but could not get?” They replied, “Nothing!”

And he said, “But, now, if anyone among you has some money, he should take it with him. Also, whoever has food should take it with him, and whoever does not have a sword should sell his coat and buy one!”

I tell you this because what a prophet wrote about me in the scriptures must happen: ‘People considered him to be a criminal.’ Everything that is written about me in the scriptures is happening.

The disciples said, “Lord, look! We have two swords!” He replied, “Enough. Do not talk like this any longer.”

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

(Matthew 26:36–46; Mark 14:32–42)

Jesus left the city and went to the Mount of Olives, as he usually did; his disciples went with him.

When he came to the place where he wanted to go, he said to them, “Pray that God will help you not to be tempted to sin.”

Then he went about thirty meters from them, knelt down and prayed. He said,

“Father, the terrible things that are about to happen to me: If you are willing to keep them from happening, do it. But do not do what I want, but what you want.”

Then an angel from heaven came and gave him courage.

He was suffering greatly. So he prayed more intensely. His sweat was falling to the ground like large drops of blood.

When he got up from praying, he returned to his disciples. He found that they were so tired out because of their sorrow that they were sleeping.

He woke them up and said to them, “You should not be sleeping! Get up! Pray that God will help you so that nothing will persuade you to sin.”

The Betrayal of Jesus

(Matthew 26:47–56; Mark 14:43–52; John 18:1–14)

While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd of people came to him. Judas, one of the twelve disciples, was leading them. He came up to Jesus to kiss him.

But Jesus said to him, “Judas, will you really kiss me, the Son of Man, in order to hand me over to my enemies?”

When the disciples realized what was happening, they said, “Lord, shall we strike them with our swords?”

One of them struck the servant of the high priest, but only cut off his right ear.

But Jesus said, “Do not do any more of that.” Then he touched the servant’s ear and healed him.

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guards, and the Jewish elders who had come to arrest him, “It is surprising that you have come here with swords and clubs to arrest me, as if I were a robber.

For many days I was with you in the temple, but you did not try to arrest me at all! But this is the time you are doing what you want. It is also the time when Satan is doing the evil things as he wants to do.

Peter Denies Jesus

(Matthew 26:69–75; Mark 14:66–72; John 18:15–18)

They seized Jesus and led him away. They brought him to the high priest’s house. Peter followed them far behind.

The people lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together. Peter sat among them.

A female servant saw Peter sitting there as the fire shone upon him. She looked at him carefully and said, “This man was also with the one whom they have arrested!”

But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him!”

A little later someone else saw Peter and said, “You also are one of those who were with the man they arrested!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not one of them!”

About an hour later someone else said loudly, “The way that this man speaks shows that he is from the region of Galilee. Certainly this man was also with the man whom they arrested!”

But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about!” Immediately a rooster crowed, while he was still speaking.

The Lord Jesus turned around and looked right at Peter. Then Peter remembered what the Lord had said to him, “This night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you know me.”

And he went out of the courtyard and cried with great sorrow.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

(Isaiah 50:4–11; Matthew 27:27–31; Mark 15:16–20; John 19:1–15)

The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him and beat him.

They put a blindfold on him and said to him, “Show us that you are a prophet! Tell us who it was that struck you!”

They said many other evil things about him, insulting him.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin

(Matthew 26:57–68; Mark 14:53–65; John 18:19–24)

At dawn the next morning, many of the Jewish leaders gathered together. In this group were the chief priests and the men who taught the Jewish laws. They took Jesus to the Jewish council chamber. There they said to him,

“If you are the Messiah, tell us!” But he replied, “If I say that I am he, you will not believe me.

If I ask you what you think about the Messiah, you will not answer me.

But from now on, I, the Son of Man, will be sitting next to God Almighty and ruling!”

Then they all asked, “If that is so, are you saying that you are the Son of God?” He answered, “Yes, it is just like you say.”

Then they said to each other, “We certainly do not need any more people to testify against him! We ourselves have heard him say that he is equal to God!”

Das Komplott, Jesus zu töten

(Matthäus 26,1-5; Markus 14,1-2; Johannes 11,45-57)

Es nahete aber das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, welches Ostern genannt wird.

Und die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten trachteten, wie sie Jesus töten möchten; sie fürchteten jedoch das Volk.

(Matthäus 26,14-16; Markus 14,10-11)

Da fuhr der Satan in Judas, welcher Iskariot genannt wurde, und einer von den Zwölfen war.

Und er ging hin, und redete mit den Hohenpriestern und den Befehlshabern, wie er ihnen denselben überliefern wollte.

Sie freuten sich, und wurden mit ihm eines, ihm Geld zu geben.

Er sagte zu, und suchte eine Gelegenheit, ihn ohne Volksauflauf zu überliefern.

Jesus und seine Jünger bereiten das Passahfest vor

(Matthäus 26,17-19; Markus 14,12-16)

Es kam aber der Tag der ungesäuerten Brote, an welchem das Osterlamm geschlachtet werden musste.

Da sandte er den Petrus und Johannes, und sprach: Gehet hin, und bereitet uns das Osterlamm, dass wir es essen.

Sie aber sprachen: Wo willst du, dass wir es bereiten?

Er sprach zu ihnen: Siehe, wenn ihr in die Stadt hineinkommet, wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der einen Wasserkrug trägt; folget ihm in das Haus, in welches er hineingeht,

und saget zu dem Hausherrn: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Wo ist das Gemach, wo ich mit meinen Jüngern das Osterlamm essen kann?

Und derselbe wird euch einen großen eingerichteten Speisesaal zeigen; daselbst bereitet es!

Sie aber gingen hin, und fanden es, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Ostermahl.

Jesus setzt das Abendmahl ein

(Matthäus 26,20-30; Markus 14,17-26; 1. Korinther 11,17-34)

Und als die Stunde gekommen war, setzte er sich zu Tische, und die zwölf Apostel mit ihm.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Sehnlichst hat mich verlangt, dieses Ostermahl mit euch zu essen, ehedem ich leide.

Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde es von nun an nicht mehr essen, bis es seine Erfüllung erhält im Reiche Gottes.

Und er nahm einen Kelch, dankte und sprach: Nehmet hin, und teilet ihn unter euch!

Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde nicht mehr trinken von dem Erzeugnisse des Weinstocks, bis das Reich Gottes kommt.

Und er nahm das Brot, dankte, brach es, und gab es ihnen, indem er sprach: Dieses ist mein Leib, der für euch hingegeben wird. Dieses tut zu meinem Gedächtnisse!

Gleicherweise nahm er auch den Kelch, nach dem Mahle, und sprach: Dies ist der Kelch, der neue Bund in meinem Blute, das für euch vergossen wird!

Jedoch siehe, die Hand meines Verräters ist mit mir auf dem Tische!

Der Menschensohn geht zwar hin, wie es bestimmt ist; aber wehe jenem Menschen, durch welchen er verraten wird!

Und sie fingen an untereinander zu forschen, wer aus ihnen es wäre, der dies tun werde.

Die Jünger streiten über die Größe

Es entstand auch ein Streit unter ihnen, wer von ihnen der Größte zu sein scheine.

Er sprach aber zu ihnen: Die Könige der Heiden herrschen über sie, und die über sie Gewalt üben, werden Gnädige genannt.

Ihr aber nicht so; sondern wer unter euch der Größte ist, werde wie der Kleinste, und wer der Vorsteher ist, werde wie der Dienende.

Denn wer ist größer, der zu Tische sitzt, oder der, welcher bedienet? Nicht wahr, der zu Tische sitzt? Ich aber bin in eurer Mitte wie der, welcher dient.

Ihr aber seid es, welche mit mir in meinen Prüfungen ausgeharrt haben.

Darum bereite ich euch das Reich, wie mir es mein Vater bereitet hat,

dass ihr esset und trinket an meinem Tische in meinem Reiche, und auf Thronen sitzet, die zwölf Stämme Israels richtend.

Jesus sagt Petrus' Verleugnung voraus

(Matthäus 26,31-35; Markus 14,27-31; Johannes 13,36-38)

Es sprach aber der Herr: Simon, Simon! Siehe, der Satan hat nach euch verlangt, um euch sieben zu dürfen, wie den Weizen.

Ich aber habe für dich gebeten, dass dein Glaube nicht aufhöre; und wenn du einst bekehrt bist, so stärke deine Brüder.

Da sprach er zu ihm: Herr! ich bin bereit, mit dir in den Kerker und in den Tod zu gehen.

Er aber sprach: Ich sage dir, Petrus! Es wird heute der Hahn nicht krähen, bis du dreimal geleugnet hast, mich zu kennen. Und er sprach zu ihnen:

Vorräte für den Weg

Als ich euch aussandte ohne Beutel, ohne Tasche und Schuhe, hat euch etwas gemangelt?

Sie aber sprachen: Nichts! Da sprach er zu ihnen: Nun aber, wer einen Beutel hat, nehme ihn, desgleichen auch eine Tasche; und wer es nicht hat, verkaufe seinen Rock, und kaufe ein Schwert.

Denn ich sage euch: Noch muss an mir erfüllet werden, was geschrieben steht: Er ist unter die Übeltäter gerechnet worden Denn was von mir geschrieben steht, hat ein Ende.

Sie aber sprachen: Herr! siehe, hier sind zwei Schwerter. Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Es ist genug!

Das Gebet im Garten

(Matthäus 26,36-46; Markus 14,32-42)

Und er ging hinaus, und begab sich nach seiner Gewohnheit an den Ölberg; es folgten ihm aber auch die Jünger.

Und als er an den Ort kam, sprach er zu ihnen: Betet, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung fallet!

Und er entfernte sich von ihnen einen Steinwurf weit, kniete nieder, und betete,

und sprach Vater! Wenn du willst, so nimm diesen Kelch hinweg von mir; jedoch nicht mein Wille, sondern der deine geschehe!

Es erschien ihm aber ein Engel vom Himmel, und stärkte ihn. Und als ihn Todesangst befiel, betete er inständiger.

Und sein Schweiß ward wie Tropfen auf die Erde herabrinnenden Blutes.

Und er stand auf vom Gebete, kam zu seinen Jüngern, und fand sie vor Traurigkeit schlafend.

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was schlafet ihr? Stehet auf, betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung fallet!

Verrat und Verhaftung in Gethsemane

(Matthäus 26,47-56; Markus 14,43-52; Johannes 18,1-14)

Und da er noch redete, siehe da kam eine Schar; und einer von den Zwölf, mit Namen Judas, ging ihnen voraus; und er nahte sich Jesus, um ihn zu küssen.

Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Judas! mit einem Kusse verrätst du den Menschensohn?

Als aber die, welche um ihn waren, sahen, was geschehen sollte, sprachen sie zu ihm: Herr! Sollen wir mit dem Schwerte dreinschlagen?

Und einer von ihnen schlug auf den Knecht des Hohenpriesters, und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab.

Jesus aber entgegnete, und sprach: Lasset ab, nicht weiter! Und er rührte dessen Ohr an, und heilte ihn.

Zu denen aber, die wider ihn gekommen waren, zu den Hohenpriestern, Befehlshabern des Tempels und Ältesten sprach Jesus: Wie auf einen Mörder seid ihr ausgezogen mit Schwertern und Knütteln.

Indes ich täglich bei euch im Tempel war, habet ihr die Hände nicht gegen mich ausgestreckt; aber das ist eure Stunde, und die Gewalt der Finsternis.

Petrus verleugnet Jesus und weint bitterlich

(Matthäus 26,69-75; Markus 14,66-72; Johannes 18,15-18)

Sie aber ergriffen ihn, und führten ihn in das Haus des Hohenpriesters; und Petrus folgte von ferne.

Als sie aber ein Feuer in der Mitte des Hofes angezündet, und sich herumgesetzt hatten, war Petrus mitten unter ihnen.

Da nun eine Magd ihn beim Lichte sitzen sah, schaute sie ihn schärfer an, und sprach: Auch dieser war mit ihm!

Er aber verleugnete ihn, und sprach: Weib, ich kenne ihn nicht!

Und bald darnach sah ihn ein anderer, und sprach: Du bist auch einer von diesen! Petrus aber sprach: O Mensch! ich bin es nicht.

Und über eine Weile, etwa nach einer Stunde, bekräftigte es ein anderer, und sprach: Wahrlich, auch dieser war bei ihm; denn er ist auch ein Galiläer!

Petrus sprach: Mensch! ich weiß nicht, was du sagst. Und alsbald, während er noch redete, krähte ein Hahn.

Da wandte sich der Herr um, und blickte Petrus an. Und Petrus erinnerte sich an das Wort des Herrn, wie er gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn krähet, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.

Und Petrus ging hinaus, und weinte bitterlich.

Jesus wird verspottet und verprügelt

(Jesaja 50,4-11; Matthäus 27,27-31; Markus 15,16-20; Johannes 19,1-15)

Die Männer, welche Jesus festhielten, verspotteten und schlugen ihn.

Und sie verhüllten ihn, und schlugen ihn in´s Angesicht, fragten ihn, und sagten: Weissage, wer ist´s, der dich geschlagen hat?

Und viele andere Lästerungen redeten sie wider ihn.

Jesus steht vor dem Sanhedrin

(Matthäus 26,57-68; Markus 14,53-65; Johannes 18,19-24)

Als es nun Tag geworden war, kamen die Ältesten des Volkes, die Hohenpriester und die Schriftgelehrten zusammen, und führten ihn in ihren Rat, und sprachen: Wenn du Christus bist, so sage es uns!

Er sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ich es euch sage, so werdet ihr mir nicht glauben.

Wenn ich aber auch frage, so werdet ihr mir nicht antworten, noch mich loslassen.

Von nun aber wird der Menschensohn zur Rechten der Kraft Gottes sitzen.

Da sprachen alle: Du also bist der Sohn Gottes? Er sprach: Ihr saget es; denn ich bin es!

Sie aber sprachen: Was haben wir noch ein Zeugnis nötig? wir haben es ja selbst aus seinem Munde gehört!
