- Kapitel 8 -

(Exodus 29:1–9)

Yahweh also said to Moses,

“Bring Aaron and his sons, and bring their special clothes, the oil for anointing them, the bull to be offered to cause them to become acceptable to God, the two rams to be slaughtered, and the basket containing bread made without yeast.

Then gather all the people at the entrance to the sacred tent.”

Moses did what Yahweh told him to do, and all the people gathered there.

Then Moses said to the people, “This is what Yahweh has commanded us to do.”

Then he brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them.

He put the special tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, put on him the special robe, and put on him the sacred vest. He fastened the sacred vest around him, using the finely woven waistband.

He put the sacred pouch on his chest and put into it the two stones for him to use to determine what God wants.

Then he wrapped the turban around Aaron’s head and fastened on the front of it the gold ornament the object that showed that he was dedicated to God, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

Then Moses took the olive oil and anointed the sacred tent and everything in it, and dedicated it all to Yahweh.

He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times. He anointed the altar and all the things used with it, and its huge washbasin and its stand, to dedicate them to Yahweh.

He poured some of the oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him, to dedicate him to Yahweh.

Then he brought forward Aaron’s sons. He put tunics on them, tied sashes around them, and wrapped turbans around their heads, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

The Priests’ Sin Offering

Then he brought the bull for the offering to cause people to become acceptable to God. Then Aaron and his sons put their hands on the bull’s head.

Then Moses slaughtered the bull, caught some of its blood in a bowl, and with his finger put some of it on the projections at the corners of the altar, to purify the altar. He poured the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. By doing that, he caused it to be a suitable place for burning sacrifices for sin.

Moses took all the fat that covers the inner parts of the animal, including the liver and kidneys, and burned them on the altar.

He took the rest of the bull, including the hide and intestines, and burned them outside the camp, like Yahweh had commanded Moses.

The Priests’ Burnt Offering

Then he brought the ram for the offering that would be completely burned on the altar, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.

Then Moses slaughtered the ram and sprinkled its blood on all sides of the altar.

He cut the ram into pieces and washed the inner parts and hind legs.

Then he put the head, the fat, and the other parts of the ram on the altar. As it burned, the aroma of the smoke was pleasing to Yahweh. It was an offering to Yahweh that was burned, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

The Ram of Ordination

(Exodus 29:10–30)

Then he brought the other ram, the one for consecrating the priests, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.

Moses slaughtered that ram, caught some of its blood in a bowl, and put some of that blood on the lobes of the right ears, the thumbs of the right hands, and the big toes of the right feet of Aaron and his sons

to indicate that what they listened to and what they did and where they went should be directed by Yahweh.

He picked up all the fat of the ram, its fat tail, the fat that covered the inner parts, including the fat that covered the liver and kidneys, and the right thigh of the ram.

Then from the basket containing the bread that was made without yeast, the bread which had been dedicated to Yahweh, he picked up one loaf of bread made without olive oil, and one loaf that was made by mixing the flour with olive oil, and one wafer.

He put those on top of the portions of fat, and put them into the hands of Aaron and his sons. Then they lifted them up in the presence of Yahweh to show that it was an offering that belonged to him.

Then Moses took those things from their hands and burned them on the altar. That was the offering that was burned to appoint Aaron and his sons as priests. And the aroma while it burned was pleasing to Yahweh.

Moses also took the breast of the second ram and lifted it high before Yahweh to offer it to him, as Yahweh had commanded. The breast was Moses’ share of the ram that was sacrificed to dedicate the priests.

Then Moses took some of the olive oil for anointing Aaron and his sons, and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his sons and on their clothes. By doing that, he set apart Aaron to be priest, together with his sons and their clothes.

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat of the second ram at the entrance of the sacred tent, and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket, as I told you to do.

Burn up any of the meat and bread that remains.

The time for you to be set apart as priests will be seven days, so do not leave the entrance of the sacred tent for seven days.

What we have done today is what Yahweh commanded to cause you to be forgiven for your sins.

You must stay at the entrance to the sacred tent for seven days and seven nights and do what Yahweh requires, in order that you will not die because of disobeying him. I am telling you that because that is what Yahweh has commanded me to tell you.”

So Aaron and his sons did everything that Yahweh told Moses to tell them.

Aaron und seine Söhne werden geweiht

(2. Mose 29,1-9)

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:

Nimm Aaron nebst seinen Söhnen, ihre Gewänder, das Salböl, das junge Rind für das Sündopfer, die beiden Widder und den Korb mit dem Ungesäuerten,

und versammle die ganze Gemeinde vor dem Eingange des Zeltes.

Da tat Moses, wie der Herr geboten hatte; und als das gesamte Volk sich vor der Tür des Zeltes versammelt hatte,

sprach er: Dies ist es, was der Herr zu tun befohlen hat.

Alsbald ließ er Aaron und seine Söhne herbeitreten und ließ sie sich waschen;

sodann legte er dem Hohenpriester das linnene Unterkleid an, und umgürtete ihn mit dem Gürtel, bekleidete ihn mit dem himmelblauen Obergewande, und legte das Schulterkleid darüber,

das er mit dem Bande befestigte und mit dem Brustschmucke verband, in welchem Lehre und Wahrheit war.

Hierauf setzte er ihm die hohepriesterliche Kopfbedeckung auf das Haupt, und auf dieser befestigte er über der Stirne die durch die Weihe geheiligte goldene Platte, wie der Herr ihm geboten hatte.

Nun nahm er das Salböl und salbte damit das Zelt mit allen seinen Gerätschaften.

Auch besprengte er den Altar, ihn damit einweihend, siebenmal und salbte ihn samt allen seinem Fußgestell weihte er mit Öl.

Sodann goss er dies auf das Haupt Aarons, und salbte, und weihte ihn.

Auch ließ er dessen Söhne herzutreten, und bekleidete sie mit den linnenen Kleidern, und umgürtete sie mit den Gürteln, und setzte ihnen die priesterliche Kopfbedeckung auf, wie der Herr geboten hatte.

Alsdann brachte er den jungen Stier zum Sündopfer herbei; und nachdem Aaron und seine Söhne ihm die Hände auf den Kopf gelegt hatten,

schlachtete er ihn, und fing das Blut auf, tauchte den Finger darein, und bestrich damit die Hörner des Altares ringsum. Nachdem er so den Altar entsündigt und geweiht hatte, goss er das übrige Blut an den Fuß desselben.

Das Fett aber, welches die Eingeweide bedeckte, das Netz der Leber, und beide Nieren mit ihrem Fette verbrannte er auf dem Altare;

den Stier jedoch mit seinem Felle, seinem Fleisch und seinem Unrate verbrannte er außerhalb des Lagers, wie es der Herr geboten hatte.

Alsdann ließ er den Widder zum Brandopfer herbeibringen; und nachdem Aaron und seine Söhne die Hände auf den Kopf desselben gelegt,

schlachtete er ihn und goss sein Blut rings um den Altar.

Den Widder selbst zerlegte er in Stücke und verbrannte davon den Kopf und die Glieder und das Fett mit Feuer,

nachdem er zuvor die Eingeweide und die Füße gewaschen hatte; so verbrannte er den ganzen Widder auf dem Altare, weil es ein Brandopfer war, zum wohlgefälligen Geruche für den Herrn, wie er ihm geboten hatte.

(2. Mose 29,10-30)

Hierauf ließ er den zweiten Widder zur Weihe der Priester herbeiführen; und Aaron und seine Söhne legten ihre Hände auf den Kopf desselben.

Dann schlachtete ihn Moses, nahm etwas von seinem Blute, und bestrich damit das rechte Ohrläppchen Aarons, und den Daumen seiner rechten Hand, so wie auch die rechte große Zehe.

Hierauf ließ er die Söhne Aarons hinzutreten und strich etwas von dem Blute des geopferten Widders an das rechte Ohrläppchen eines jeden, an den Daumen der rechten Hand und die rechte große Zehe, das übrige goss er ringsum auf den Altar;

das Fett aber, den Schwanz, und alles Fett, welches die Eingeweide bedeckt, das Netz der Leber, und die beiden Nieren mit ihrem Fette, und das rechte Schulterstück sonderte er ab.

Dazu nahm er aus dem Korbe mit dem Ungesäuerten, der vor dem Herrn stand, ein ungesäuertes Brot, und einen mit Öl angemachten Kuchen, und einen Fladen, und legte sie auf das Fett, und das rechte Schulterstück.

Dann gab er alles mitsammen Aaron und seinen Söhnen, die es erhoben vor dem Herrn.

Hierauf nahm er es wieder aus ihren Händen und verbrannte es auf dem Brandopferaltare, weil es das Weiheopfer war, zum lieblichen Opfergeruche für den Herrn.

Und das Bruststück erhob er vor dem Herrn und nahm es als seinen Anteil vom Widder der Weihe, wie der Herr es ihm geboten hatte.

Nun nahm er das Salböl und das Blut, welches auf dem Altare war, und sprengte es auf Aaron und seine Kleider, und auf seine Söhne und ihre Kleider.

Und nachdem er sie mit ihren Kleidern geweiht, gebot er ihnen und sprach: Kochet das Fleisch vor dem Eingange des Zeltes und esset es daselbst. Ebenso esset die Brote der Weihe, welche im Korbe liegen, wie der Herr mir geboten hat, da er sprach: Aaron und seine Söhne sollen sie verzehren.

Alles aber, was von dem Fleische und dem Brote übrig bleibt, soll mit Feuer verbrannt werden.

Sieben Tage lang sollt ihr von dem Eingange des Zeltes nicht hinweggehen, bis zu dem Tage, an dem die Zeit eurer Weihe erfüllt ist; denn nach sieben Tagen endet die Weihe,

so wie es auch jetzt geschehen ist, dass die Gebräuche des Opfers erfüllt werden.

Tag und Nacht sollt ihr bei dem Zelte bleiben, die Anordnungen Gottes befolgend, damit ihr nicht sterbet, denn so ist es mir geboten.

Und Aaron und seine Söhne taten alles, was der Herr durch Moses gesagt hatte.
