- Kapitel 15 -

(Romans 4:1–12; Hebrews 11:8–19)

Some time later, Abram had a vision in which Yahweh spoke to him and said, “Do not be afraid of anything, I will protect you and I will give you a great reward.”

But Abram replied, “Lord Yahweh, how can you give me what I truly want, because I have no children, and the one who will inherit all my possessions is my servant Eliezer, from Damascus!”

Abram also said, “You have not given me any children, so a servant in my household will inherit everything that I own!”

Yahweh replied, “No! He will not be the one who will inherit it. Instead, you yourself will be the father of the one who will inherit everything you own.”

Then Yahweh took Abram outside of his tent and said, “Look up at the sky! Can you count the stars? No, you cannot count them because there are so many of them, and your descendants will be as numerous as the stars.”

Abram believed that what Yahweh said would happen. Because of that, Yahweh considered him as good.

Yahweh also said to him, “I am Yahweh. I am the one who brought you from Ur in the land of Chaldea. I brought you here to give you this land to possess.”

God Confirms His Promise

(Numbers 34:1–15; Romans 4:13–25)

But Abram replied, “Lord Yahweh, how can I know for sure that this land will belong to me?”

God said to him, “Bring a three year old heifer and a three year old goat to me, and a dove and a pigeon.”

So Abram brought all of them. He killed them and cut each of the animals in half. He arranged the halves of each one, side by side. But he did not cut the pigeon and dove in half.

Birds that eat dead animals came down to eat the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

As the sun was going down, Abram fell sound asleep, and suddenly everything around him became dark and frightening.

Then Yahweh said to Abram, “I want you to know that your descendants will become foreigners living in a land that does not belong to them. They will become slaves of the owners of that land. The owners of the land will mistreat them for four hundred years.

But then I will punish the people of that country where they are slaves. Then your descendants will leave that country, taking many possessions with them.

But as for you, you will die peacefully and be buried when you are very old.

After your descendants have been slaves for four hundred years, they will come back here. They will take control of this land and defeat the Amor people. This will not happen before that time, because the Amor people have not yet sinned to the degree that I would punish them like that for it.”

When the sun had set and it was dark, unexpectedly a blazing torch and a clay pot containing burning coals from which smoke was rising appeared and went between the halves of the animals.

On that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram. Yahweh told him, “I will give to your descendants all the land between the river that is on the eastern border of Egypt to the south, and north to the Euphrates River.

That is the land where the Ken, the Keniz, the Kidmon,

the Heth, the Perez, the Repha,

the Amor, the Canaan, the Girgash, and the Jebus people groups live.”

Gottes Bund mit Abram

(Römer 4,1-12; Hebräer 11,8-19)

Nach diesen Begebenheiten erging das Wort des Herrn an Abram in einem Gesichte, und er sprach: Fürchte dich nicht, Abram! ich bin dein Beschirmer, und dein Lohn wird überaus groß sein.

Abram sprach: Herr, Gott! was willst du mir geben? Ich gehe kinderlos dahin, und der Sohn meines Hausverwalters, des Damasceners Eliezer ist es.

Und Abram sprach: Mir aber hast du keine Nachkommen gegeben; so wird denn mein hausgeborener Knecht mein Erbe sein.

Alsbald erging das Wort des Herrn an ihn, also: Nicht dieser wird dein Erbe sein, sondern einer, der von deinem Leibe kommt, ihn wirst du zum Erben haben.

Und er führte ihn hinaus und sprach zu ihm: Blicke auf zum Himmel und zähle die Sterne, wenn du kannst! Und er sprach zu ihm: So wird deine Nachkommenschaft sein!

Abram glaubte Gott, und dies ward ihm zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet.

Und Gott sprach zu ihm: Ich bin der Herr, der dich aus Ur in Chaldäa geführt hat, um dir dieses Land zu geben, dass du es besitzest.

(4. Mose 34,1-15; Römer 4,13-25)

Er aber sprach: Herr, Gott! woran kann ich es erkennen, dass ich es besitzen werde?

Und der Herr antwortete und sprach: Nimm mir eine dreijährige Kuh, und eine dreijährige Ziege, und einen dreijährigen Widder, auch eine Turteltaube und eine andere Taube.

Da nahm er dieses alles, und teilte jedes je in zwei gleiche Teile, und legte je die beiden Teile einander gegenüber; die Vögel aber zerteilte er nicht.

Da stießen die Raubvögel auf die Leichname herab, Abram aber vertrieb sie.

Als nun die Sonne unterging, fiel ein tiefer Schlaf auf Abram, und großer Schrecken, tiefe Finsternis überfiel ihn.

Und es ward zu ihm gesagt: Wisse und erfahre zum voraus, dass deine Nachkommenschaft fremd sein wird in einem Lande, das ihnen nicht gehört, und man wird sie dienstbar machen und hart bedrücken, vierhundert Jahre lang.

Aber das Volk, dem sie dienstbar sein werden, werde ich richten; und darnach werden sie ausziehen mit reicher Habe.

Du aber wirst in Frieden zu deinen Vätern eingehen und in hohem Alter begraben werden.

Im vierten Geschlechte aber werden sie hierher zurückkehren; denn bis zur Stunde haben die Sünden der Amorrhiter noch nicht ihr volles Maß erreicht.

Als nun die Sonne untergegangen war, entstand eine dichte Finsternis, und ein rauchender Ofen erschien, und eine Feuerflamme, welche zwischen jenen geteilten Stücken hindurch ging.

An diesem Tage schloss der Herr einen Bund mit Abram, und sprach: Deinen Nachkommen will ich dieses Land geben, vom Strome Ägyptens an bis zum großen Euphratstrome,

das Land der Kiniter, Keneziter, Kedmoniter,

Hethiter, Phereziter, Raphaiter,

Amorrhiter, Chananiter, Gergesiter, und Jebusiter.
