- Kapitel 34 -

1
Then Moses climbed up from the plains in the region of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the highest point on Mount Pisgah, which is across the Jordan River from Jericho. There Yahweh showed him all the land that the Israelites would occupy. He showed him the region of Gilead as far north as the city of Dan;

all the land that the tribe of Naphtali would occupy; all the land that the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh had occupied; all the land that the tribe of Judah would occupy as far west as the Mediterranean Sea;

the desert area in the south part of Judah; and the Valley of the Jordan that extends from Jericho in the north to the city of Zoar in the south.

Then Yahweh said to him, “You have now seen this land that I solemnly promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have allowed you to see it from a distance, but you will not go there.”

So Moses, who always served Yahweh faithfully, died there in the land of Moab, which is what Yahweh said would happen.

Yahweh buried Moses’ body in the valley in the land of Moab, across from the town of Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where he is buried.

Moses was 120 years old when he died, but he was still very strong, and he could still see very well.

The Israelite people mourned for him in the plains of Moab for thirty days.

God caused Joshua to be very wise, because Moses had put his hands on Joshua to appoint him to be their new leader. The Israelite people obeyed Joshua, and they obeyed all the commands that Yahweh had given to Moses to tell to the Israelite people.
10
Since the time that Moses lived, there has never been a prophet in Israel like him, for Yahweh spoke with him face to face.
11
No other prophet has performed all the kinds of powerful miracles that Yahweh caused him to do against Pharaoh, king of Egypt, against all his servants, and against the people of Egypt.
12
No other prophet has been able to perform all the great and terrifying deeds that Moses performed while all the Israelites watched.

Mose stirbt auf dem Berg Nebo

Als nun Moses von den Ebenen Moabs auf den Berg Nebo, auf den Gipfel des Phasga, Jericho gegenüber, gestiegen war, ließ der Herr ihn das ganze Land Galaad bis Dan schauen,
2
und ganz Nephthali, und das Land Ephraim und Manasse, und das ganze Land Juda bis zum äußersten Meere,
3
und den südlichen Teil, und das weite Gefilde von Jericho, der Palmenstadt, bis Segor.
4
Und der Herr sprach zu ihm: Dies ist das Land, welches ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen habe, da ich sprach: deiner Nachkommenschaft werde ich es geben. Du hast es mit deinen Augen gesehen, aber in dasselbe hinüberziehen sollst du nicht.

Da starb Moses, der Knecht des Herrn, daselbst im Lande Moab, nach dem Befehle des Herrn;
6
und er begrub ihn im Tale des Landes Moab, Phogor gegenüber; und kein Mensch kennt seine Grabstätte bis auf den gegenwärtigen Tag.
7
Moses war hundert und zwanzig Jahre alt, als er starb; sein Auge war nicht dunkel geworden und seine Zähne nicht locker.
8
Und die Söhne Israels beweinten ihn in den Gefilden Moabs dreißig Tage; alsdann waren die Tage des Weinens und Klagens um Moses zu Ende.
9
Josue aber, der Sohn Nuns, war mit dem Geiste der Weisheit erfüllt, denn Moses hatte ihm seine Hände aufgelegt. Und die Söhne Israels gehorchten ihm und taten, wie der Herr dem Moses geboten hatte.

Und es stand hinfort in Israel kein Prophet mehr auf wie Moses, den der Herr von Angesicht zu Angesicht gekannt hätte,
11
in allen den Zeichen und Wundern, die zu tun der Herr ihn sandte, im Lande Ägypten an Pharao, und an allen seinen Knechten, und an seinem ganzen Lande,
12
und alle Macht zu zeigen, und in großen und wunderbaren Taten, welche Moses vor ganz Israel verrichtete.
