(Exodus 12:14–28; Leviticus 23:4–8; Numbers 28:16–25)

Each year honor Yahweh our God by celebrating the Passover Festival in the month of Aviv in early spring. It was on a night in that month that Yahweh rescued your ancestors from Egypt.

In order to celebrate that festival, go to the place that Yahweh will choose for you to worship him, and offer there one young animal from your cattle or your sheep to be the Passover sacrifice.

When you eat the Passover meal, the bread that you eat must not have yeast in it. You must eat this kind of bread, which will be called the bread of suffering, for seven days. This is to help you to remember all during the time that you are alive that when your ancestors left Egypt, where they were suffering because they were slaves, they left very quickly. They did not have time to put in yeast and wait for the dough to swell up.

During that festival, which will last for seven days, you must not have any yeast in any house in your land. Furthermore, the meat of the animal that you sacrifice on the evening of the first day of the Passover Festival must be eaten during that night; do not allow any of it to remain until the next day.

To honor Yahweh our God, you must offer the Passover sacrifice only at the place that he chooses for you to worship him; do not offer that sacrifice in any other town in the land that Yahweh is giving to you.

Offer that sacrifice when the sun is setting, at the same time of day that your ancestors started to leave Egypt.

Boil the meat and eat it at the place of worship that Yahweh our God chooses. The next morning, you may return to your tents.

Each day for six days the bread that you eat must have no yeast in it. On the seventh day, you must all gather to worship Yahweh our God. It will be a day of rest, you must not do any work on that day.

The Feast of Weeks

(Numbers 28:26–31)

Each year, from the day that you start to harvest your grain, count seven weeks.

Then, to honor Yahweh our God, celebrate the Festival of Pentecost. Do that by bringing to him an offering of grain. Yahweh has blessed you by causing it to grow in your fields during that year. If you had a big harvest, bring a big offering. If you had a small harvest, bring a small offering.

Each married couple should be joyful in the presence of Yahweh. Their children, their servants, the descendants of Levi who are in that town, and the foreigners, orphans, and widows who are living among you, should also be joyful. Bring those offerings to the place of worship that Yahweh will choose.

When you celebrate these festivals by obeying these commands, remember that your ancestors were slaves in Egypt.

The Feast of Tabernacles

(Numbers 29:12–40)

Each year, after you have threshed all your grain and pressed the juice from all your grapes, you must celebrate the Festival of Shelters for seven days.

Each married couple along with their children, their servants, the descendants of Levi who are in that town, and the foreigners, orphans, and widows who are living among you, should be joyful in the presence of Yahweh.

Honor Yahweh our God by celebrating this festival for seven days in the place that he chooses for you to worship him. You should all be joyful, because Yahweh will have blessed your harvest and all the other work that you have done.

So, each year all of you Israelite men must gather to worship Yahweh our God at the place that he will choose, to celebrate three festivals: The Festival of Bread with no Yeast, the Festival of Pentecost, and the Festival of Shelters. No one should come before Yahweh without an offering. Each of you men must bring an offering for Yahweh to these festivals.

The offerings should be in proportion to the blessings that Yahweh has given you during that year.

Judges and Justice

Appoint judges and other officials throughout your tribes, in all the towns in the land that Yahweh our God is giving to you. They must judge people fairly.

They must not judge unjustly. They must not favor one person more than another. The judges must not accept bribes, because if a judge accepts a bribe, even if he is wise and honest, it will be very difficult for him to judge fairly; he will do what the person who gave him the bribe wants him to do and declare that the innocent people must be punished.

You must be completely fair and just, in order that you may live long enough to occupy the land that Yahweh our God is giving to you.

Forbidden Forms of Worship

When you make an altar to worship Yahweh our God, do not put next to it any wooden pole that represents the goddess Asherah.

And do not set up any stone pillar to worship any idol, because Yahweh hates them.

Das Passahfest im Überblick

(2. Mose 12,14-28; 3. Mose 23,4-8; 4. Mose 28,16-25)

Habe Acht auf den Monat der neuen Früchte, den ersten im Frühling, dass du dem Herrn, deinem Gott, das Phase haltest; denn in diesem Monate hat dich der Herr, dein Gott, in der Nacht aus Ägypten geführt.

Und schlachte dem Herrn, deinem Gott, als Phase ein Opfer von Schafen und von Rindern an dem Orte, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird, um seinen Namen daselbst wohnen zu lassen.

Du sollst dazu kein gesäuertes Brot essen: Sieben Tage hindurch sollst du Ungesäuertes, das Brot der Trübsal, essen, denn in Schrecken bist du aus Ägypten ausgezogen; damit du den Tag deines Auszuges aus Ägypten in Erinnerung behaltest, so lange du lebst.

Kein Sauerteig soll sich in allen deinen Grenzen sieben Tage lang vorfinden, und von dem Fleische, das am ersten Tage Abends geopfert ward, soll nichts bis zum Morgen übrigbleiben.

Du kannst das Phase nicht in jeder deiner Städte schlachten, welche der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben wird;

sondern an dem Orte, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird, seinen Namen daselbst wohnen zu lassen, sollst du das Phase am Abend gegen Sonnenuntergang schlachten, zu der Zeit, wo du aus Ägypten ausgezogen bist.

Und du sollst es kochen und an dem Orte essen, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird, und am Morgen magst du dich aufmachen und in deine Zelte gehen.

Sechs Tage sollst du Ungesäuertes essen; und am siebenten Tage sollst du keine Arbeit tun, weil es die Festversammlung des Herrn, deines Gottes, ist.

Das Fest der Wochen Überprüft

(4. Mose 28,26-31)

Sieben Wochen sollst du von dem Tage, an welchem du die Sichel an die Saat gelegt hast, abzählen

und sollst dem Herrn, deinem Gott, das Wochenfest feiern und ein freiwilliges Opfer deiner Hand darbringen, je nachdem dich der Herr, dein Gott, gesegnet hat;

und du sollst vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Mahl halten, du, dein Sohn, und deine Tochter, dein Knecht, und deine Magd, und der Levit, der innerhalb deiner Tore ist, der Fremdling, die Waise und die Witwe, die bei euch weilen, an dem Orte, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird, um seinen Namen daselbst wohnen zu lassen;

und du sollst eingedenk sein, dass du ein Knecht warst in Ägypten, und halten und tun, was geboten ist.

Das Laubhüttenfest im Überblick

(4. Mose 29,12-40)

Auch das Fest der Laubhütten sollst du sieben Tage feiern, wenn du deinen Ertrag der Tenne und der Kelter eingesammelt hast;

und sollst an deinem Feste ein Mahl halten, du, dein Sohn, und deine Tochter, dein Knecht und deine Magd, der Levit, der Fremdling, die Waise und die Witwe, die innerhalb deiner Tore sind.

Sieben Tage sollst du dem Herrn, deinem Gott, das Fest feiern an dem Orte, den der Herr erwählen wird; und der Herr, dein Gott, wird dich in allen deinen Erträgnissen und in allem Tun deiner Hände segnen, und du wirst fröhlich sein.

Dreimal im Jahre soll alles, was unter dir männlich ist, vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, an dem Orte erscheinen, den er erwählen wird: am Feste der ungesäuerten Brote, am Wochenfeste, und am Laubhüttenfeste. Niemand soll vor dem Herrn leer erscheinen,

sondern ein jeder soll etwas opfern, je nachdem er hat, nach dem Segen, welchen ihm der Herr, sein Gott, gegeben hat.

Die Gerechtigkeit muss ausgeübt werden

Du sollst innerhalb aller deiner Tore, die der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben wird, in jedem von deinen Stämmen Richter und Vorsteher setzen, damit sie das Volk mit gerechtem Gerichte richten

und das Recht nicht auf eine Seite beugen. Du sollst nicht auf die äußere Stellung, noch Geschenke sehen; denn Geschenke verblenden die Augen der Weisen und verkehren die Worte der Gerechten.

Was recht ist, dem sollst du gerecht nachtrachten, damit du lebest und das Land in Besitz nehmest, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben wird.

Du sollst keinen Hain, noch irgend einen Baum neben den Altar des Herrn, deines Gottes, pflanzen.

Und du sollst dir keine Bildsäule machen, noch aufrichten, solches hasst der Herr, dein Gott.
