- Kapitel 9 -

One day David asked some of his servants, “Is there anyone who is a descendant of Saul to whom I can act kindly?” He asked this because he had loved Jonathan.

They told him that there was in Jerusalem a man named Ziba who had been a servant of Saul’s family. So David sent messengers to summon Ziba. When he arrived, the king asked him, “Are you Ziba?” He replied, “Yes, your Majesty, I am.”

The king asked him, “Is there anyone in Saul’s family to whom I can act kindly, as I promised God that I would do?” Ziba replied, “Yes, there is one son of Jonathan who is still alive. His feet are crippled.”

The king asked him, “Where is he?” Ziba replied, “He is living in the house of Machir son of Ammiel, in the city of Lo Debar east of the Jordan River.”

So King David sent messengers to bring Mephibosheth to Jerusalem.

When Mephibosheth came to David, he knelt down with his face on the ground, to show respect. Then David said, “Mephibosheth!” He replied, “Yes, your Majesty, how may I serve you?”

David said to him, “Do not be afraid. I will be kind to you because Jonathan your father was my friend. I will give back to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul. And I want you to always eat with me in my house.”

Mephibosheth bowed in front of David again and said, “Sir, I am as worthless as a dead dog. I do not deserve that you act kindly toward me!”

Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “Saul was your master, and now I am giving to Mephibosheth everything that belonged to Saul and his family.

You and your fifteen sons and your twenty servants must plow the land for Mephibosheth’s family and plant crops and harvest them, in order that they will have food to eat. But Mephibosheth will eat with me at my house.”

Ziba replied to the king, “Your Majesty, I will do everything that you have commanded me to do.” So after that, Mephibosheth always ate at the king’s table, as though he were one of the king’s sons.

Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika. All of Ziba’s family became servants of Mephibosheth.

So Mephibosheth, who was still crippled in both of his feet, started to live in Jerusalem, and he always ate at the king’s table.

Und David sprach: Ist wohl noch jemand vom Hause Sauls übrig geblieben, dass ich an ihm Barmherzigkeit übe um Jonathas willen?

Nun war da ein Diener vom Hause Sauls, namens Siba. Diesen ließ der König zu sich rufen und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Siba? Er antwortete: Ich bin es, dein Knecht.

Da sprach der König: Ist noch jemand vom Hause Sauls übrig, dass ich Gottes Barmherzigkeit an ihm übe? Siba aber sprach zu dem Könige: Es ist noch ein Sohn des Jonathas übrig, welcher an den Füßen lahm ist.

Er sprach: Wo ist er? Siba entgegnete dem Könige: Siehe, er ist im Hause Machirs, des Sohnes Ammiels, in Lodabar.

Da sandte der König David hin und ließ ihn aus dem Hause Machirs, des Sohnes Ammiels, aus Lodabar, holen.

Als nun Miphiboseth, der Sohn des Jonathas, des Sohnes Sauls, zu David kam, fiel er auf sein Angesicht nieder und verneigte sich vor ihm. Und David sprach: Miphiboseth! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich, dein Diener.

Da sprach David zu ihm: Fürchte dich nicht, denn ich will Barmherzigkeit an dir üben um Jonathas, deines Vaters, willen und dir alle Äcker Sauls, deines Vaters, zurückgeben und du sollst allzeit das Brot an meinem Tische essen.

Da fiel dieser vor ihm nieder und sprach: Wer bin ich, dein Knecht, dass du einen toten Hund, wie ich bin, angesehen hast?

Alsbald rief der König Siba, den Diener Sauls, und sprach zu ihm: Alles, was Saul gehörte, und sein ganzes Haus habe ich dem Sohne deines Herrn gegeben.

Du also bestelle ihm das Land mit deinen Söhnen und deinen Knechten und bringe dem Sohne deines Herrn den Ertrag zu seinem Unterhalte; Miphiboseth aber, der Sohn deines Herrn, soll allezeit das Brot an meinem Tische essen. Siba aber hatte fünfzehn Söhne und zwanzig Knechte.

Und Siba sprach zu dem Könige: Wie du, mein Herr und König, deinem Diener befohlen hast, wird dein Diener tun und Miphiboseth soll an meinem Tische essen, wie einer von den Söhnen des Königs:

Miphiboseth aber hatte einen kleinen Sohn namens Micha und alle Angehörigen des Hauses Siba dienten dem Miphiboseth.

Und Miphiboseth wohnte zu Jerusalem, denn er erhielt beständig Speise vom Tische des Königs, er war aber lahm auf beiden Füßen.
