- Kapitel 1 -

(Luke 1:1–4)

The former account, indeed, I made concerning all things, O Theophilus, that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

until the day in which, having given command through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He chose out, He was taken up,

to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, in many certain proofs, being seen by them through forty days, and speaking the things concerning the Kingdom of God.

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, “Which you heard from Me;

because John, indeed, immersed in water, but you will be immersed in the Holy Spirit not many days after these.”

The Ascension

(Mark 16:19–20; Luke 24:50–53)

They, therefore, indeed, having come together, were questioning Him, saying, “Lord, do You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

And He said to them, “It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father appointed in His own authority;

but you will receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit on you, and you will be witnesses for Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

And having said these things—they beholding—He was taken up, and a cloud received Him up from their sight;

and as they were looking steadfastly to the sky in His going on, then, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,

who also said, “Men, Galileans, why do you stand gazing into the sky? This Jesus who was received up from you into Heaven, will so come in what manner you saw Him going on to Heaven.”

Matthias Replaces Judas

Then they returned to Jerusalem from [that] called the Mount of Olives, that is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath’s journey;

and when they came in, they went up into the upper room, where were abiding both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James, of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas, of James;

these were all continuing with one accord in prayer and supplication, with women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

And in these days, Peter having risen up in the midst of the disciples, said (also the multitude of the names at the same place was, as it were, one hundred and twenty),

“Men, brothers, it was necessary [for] this Writing to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus,

because he was numbered among us, and received the share in this ministry.

(This one, indeed, then, purchased a field out of the reward of unrighteousness, and falling headlong, burst apart in the midst, and all his bowels gushed forth,

and it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem, insomuch that this place is called, in their proper dialect, Aceldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

For it has been written in [the] Scroll of Psalms: Let his lodging-place become desolate, and let no one be dwelling in it, and let another take his oversight.

It is necessary, therefore, of the men who went with us during all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

beginning from the immersion of John, to the day in which He was received up from us, one of these to become with us a witness of His resurrection.”

And they set two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias,

and having prayed, they said, “You, LORD, who are knowing the heart of all, show which one You chose of these two,

to receive the share of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas, by transgression, fell, to go on to his proper place”;

and they gave their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Prolog

(Lukas 1,1-4)

In der ersten Erzählung, o Theophilus! habe ich von allem gesprochen, was Jesus zu tun und zu lehren anfing

bis zu dem Tage, an welchem er aufgenommen ward, nachdem er den Aposteln, die er auserwählt hatte, durch den Heiligen Geist seine Aufträge gegeben;

denen er auch nach seinem Leiden durch viele Beweise als lebend sich zeigte, da er ihnen vierzig Tage hindurch erschien, und vom Reiche Gottes redete.

Der versprochene Heilige Geist

Und da er mit ihnen aß, befahl er ihnen, von Jerusalem nicht wegzugehen, sondern auf die Verheißung des Vaters zu warten, die ihr (sprach er) aus meinem Munde gehört habet.

Denn Johannes zwar taufte mit Wasser, ihr aber werdet mit dem Heiligen Geiste getauft werden, nach wenigen Tagen.

(Markus 16,19-20; Lukas 24,50-53)

Die nun zusammengekommen waren, fragten ihn, und sprachen: Herr! wirst du wohl in dieser Zeit das Reich Israel wieder herstellen?

Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Es stehet euch nicht zu, Zeit oder Stunde zu wissen, welche der Vater in seiner Macht festgesetzt hat;

aber ihr werdet die Kraft des Heiligen Geistes empfangen, der über euch kommen wird, und werdet meine Zeugen sein in Jerusalem, und in ganz Judäa und Samaria, und bis an die Grenzen der Erde.

Jesus steigt in den Himmel auf

Als er dies gesagt hatte, ward er vor ihren Blicken emporgehoben, und eine Wolke nahm ihn auf, hinweg aus ihren Augen.

Und als sie zum Himmel emporschauten, während er fortging, siehe, da standen zwei Männer bei ihnen in weißen Gewändern,

welche sagten: Ihr Männer von Galiläa! was stehet ihr und schauet gen Himmel? Dieser Jesus, der von euch weg in den Himmel aufgenommen ist, wird ebenso kommen, wie ihr ihn in den Himmel habt auffahren sehen.

Das Gebetstreffen im Abendmahlssaal

Hierauf kehrten sie von dem Berge, welcher Ölberg genannt wird, der nahe bei Jerusalem liegt, einen Sabbatweg weit entfernt, wieder nach Jerusalem zurück.

Und als sie hineingekommen waren, stiegen sie in das Obergemach hinauf, wo sie sich aufzuhalten pflegten, nämlich Petrus und Johannes, Jakobus und Andreas, Philippus und Thomas, Bartholomäus und Matthäus, Jakobus, der Sohn des Alphäus, und Simon, der Eiferer, und Judas, der Bruder des Jakobus.

Diese alle verharrten einmütig im Gebete samt den Frauen, und Maria, der Mutter Jesu, und seinen Brüdern.

Matthias erwählt

In diesen Tagen erhob sich Petrus inmitten der Brüder (es war aber eine Schar beisammen, von etwa hundert und zwanzig Personen) und sprach:

Brüder! Es muss das Schriftwort erfüllt werden, welches der heilige Geist durch den Mund Davids vorhergesagt hat von Judas, welcher denen, die Jesus gefangen nahmen, zum Führer diente,

der uns beigezählet war und Anteil an diesem Amte erhalten hatte.

Dieser nun erwarb sich einen Acker von dem Lohne der Ruchlosigkeit, und er erhängte sich, und barst mitten entzwei, und alle seine Eingeweide wurden verschüttet.

Und es wurde allen Einwohnern von Jerusalem bekannt, so dass jener Acker in ihrer Sprache Hakeldama, das ist Blutacker, genannt wurde.

Denn es steht im Buche der Psalmen geschrieben: Ihre Wohnstätte stehe verödet, und niemand sei, der darin wohne! Und: Sein Amt erhalte ein anderer.

Es muss also einer von den Männern, welche mit uns zusammen waren während der ganzen Zeit, da der Herr Jesus unter uns aus und ein ging,

von der Taufe des Johannes an bis auf den Tag, an welchem er von uns fort aufgenommen worden ist, mit uns Zeuge seiner Auferstehung werden.

Da stellten sie zwei vor, Joseph, genannt Barsabas, mit dem Zunamen der Gerechte, und Matthias.

Und sie beteten, und sprachen: Du, o Herr! der du die Herzen aller kennst, zeige an, welchen von diesen beiden du erwählet hast,

die Stelle dieses Dienstes und Apostelamtes zu empfangen, von welchem Judas abgefallen ist, um hinzugehen an seinen Ort.

Dann warfen sie das Los über sie, und es fiel das Los auf Matthias, und er ward den elf Aposteln beigezählt.
