- Kapitel 21 -

(Revelation 18:1–8)

The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.(a)

Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.(b)

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:(d)

And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.(f)

The Burden against Edom

(Isaiah 34:5–17)

The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

The Burden against Arabia

The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.(g)

For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.(h)

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it.(i)

Der Fall Babylons verkündet

(Offenbarung 18,1-8)

Last über die Meereswüste. Wie Wirbelwinde aus dem Süden kommen, so kommt es aus der Wüste herauf, aus grauenvollen Lande.

Ein hartes Gesicht ist mir kundgetan worden. Der Ungläubige handelt treulos und der Verwüster verwüstet! Ziehe herauf, Älam, belagere, Meder! All ihrem Seufzen will ich ein Ende machen!

Deswegen sind meine Lenden voll Schmerz, ergreift mich Angst, wie die Angst einer Gebärenden; ich brach zusammen, da ich es hörte, ich war bestürzt, da ich es sah.

Mein Herz welkte dahin, Finsternis schreckte mich; Babylon, meine Geliebte, ist mir zum Entsetzen geworden.

Bereite den Tisch, schaue aus auf der Warte! Essende und Trinkende sind sie. Auf, ihr Fürsten! Ergreifet den Schild!

Denn also sprach der Herr zu mir: Gehe und stelle einen Späher auf und, was er immer schaut, verkünde er.

Und er sah ein Gespann zweier Reiter, einen Reiter auf einem Esel und einen Reiter auf einem Kamel, und er schaute scharf hin mit beharrlichem Blicke.

Und er rief, ein Löwe: Auf der Warte des Herrn stehe ich immerfort bei Tage und verharre auf meiner Wache ganze Nächte hindurch.

Siehe, er kommt, der Reiter, der Mann mit dem Zwiegespann der Reiter; und er begann und sprach: Gefallen, gefallen ist Babylon, alle seine Götzenbilder liegen hingeschmettert auf der Erde!

O ihr meine Zerdroschenen, Kinder meiner Tenne! Was ich von dem Herrn der Heerscharen, dem Gotte Israels, vernommen, habe ich euch kundgetan.

Verkündigung gegen Edom

(Jesaja 34,5-17)

Last über Duma. Man ruft mir aus Seir zu: Wächter! Wie weit in der Nacht? Wächter! Wie weit in der Nacht?

Der Wächter sprach: Es kommt Morgen und Nacht; wenn ihr fragt, so fraget; kehret zurück, kommet!

Verkündigung gegen Arabien

Last gegen Arabien. Im Waldgebirge gegen Abend zu werdet ihr schlafen auf den Wegen der Dedaniten.

Bringet den Durstigen Wasser entgegen, ihr Bewohner des Südlandes, eilet den Flüchtlingen mit Brot entgegen!

Denn vor Schwertern sind sie flüchtig geworden, vor drohenden Schwertern, vor gespannten Bogen, vor hartem Kampfe.

Denn also spricht der Herr zu mir: Noch ein Jahr, wie eines Lohnarbeiters Jahr, und alle Herrlichkeit Kedars wird hinweggenommen.

Und die Überbleibsel von der Zahl der tapfern Bogenschützen aus den Söhnen Kedars werden gering sein, denn der Herr, der Gott Israels, hat gesprochen.
