- Kapitel 14 -

For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the Lord for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.(a)

The Fall of the King of Babylon

And it shall come to pass in the day that the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!(b)

The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.

He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.(d)

The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.

Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.(e)

All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!(g)

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?(h)

All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

For I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the Lord .

I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of hosts.

God’s Purpose against Assyria

The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.

For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

Philistia Will Be Destroyed

In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.

Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.(i)

And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.

Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.(j)

What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.(l)

Gnade für Jakob

Nahe ist die Ankunft seiner Zeit und seine Tage sind nicht weit entfernt, denn der Herr wird sich über Jakob erbarmen und Israel wieder erwählen und sie wieder wohnen lassen in ihrem Lande; die Fremdlinge werden sich ihnen anschließen und sich dem Hause Jakob verbinden.

Die Völker werden sie nehmen und an ihren Ort geleiten und das Haus Israel wird dieselben als Knechte und Mägde besitzen im Lande des Herrn und sie werden die gefangen halten, von denen sie gefangen gehalten wurden, und werden ihre Bedränger unterwerfen.

Der Sturz des Königs von Babylon

Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tage, wenn Gott dir Ruhe verliehen von deiner Bedrängnis und deinem Schrecken und der harten Dienstbarkeit, der du zuvor unterworfen warst,

wirst du dieses Lied wider den König von Babylon anstimmen und sprechen: Wie ist es nun aus mit dem Bedrücker, wie hat es ein Ende mit der Zinspflicht!

Zerbrochen hat der Herr den Stab der Gottlosen, die Rute der Herrscher,

welche Völker im Ingrimm schlug mit unheilbarer Wunde, welche im Toben Völker unterjochte und grausam verfolgte.

Es ruht die ganze Erde und rastet schweigend, sie freut sich und bricht in Jubel aus.

Auch die Tannen freuen sich über dich und die Zedern des Libanon. Seitdem du entschlafen bist, kommt niemand mehr heraus, uns zu fällen.

Die Unterwelt in der Tiefe ist in Aufruhr geraten deiner Ankunft entgegen und weckt vor dir die Riesen auf. Alle Fürsten der Erde erheben sich von ihren Thronen, alle Fürsten der Völker.

Insgesamt heben sie an und rufen dir zu: Auch dich hat es getroffen wie uns, du bist uns gleich geworden!

Hinabgeschleudert in die Unterwelt ist dein Stolz, dein Leib ist zusammengebrochen; unter dir hat die Motte ihr Bett und deine Decke sind Würmer.

Der Fall Luzifers

Wie bist du vom Himmel niedergestürzt, du Glanzgestirn, das früh aufging! wie bist du zur Erde gestürzt, der du die Völker verwundetest!

Du sprachest doch in deinem Herzen: Zum Himmel will ich emporsteigen, über die Sterne Gottes meinen Thron erhöhen, auf dem Berge des Zeugnisses mich niederlassen nach der Seite der Mitternacht zu.

Ich will emporsteigen über den Wolken Höhen, gleich sein dem Allerhöchsten!

Aber in die Unterwelt wirst du hinabgestürzt, in die Tiefe des Pfuhles.

Die dich sehen, neigen sich dir zu und schauen auf dich. Ist das der Mann, der die Erde in Aufruhr brachte, der Königreiche erschütterte,

der den Erdkreis zur Wüste machte, dessen Städte verheerte und seinen Gefangenen den Kerker nicht öffnete?

Alle Könige der Völker schlafen allzumal in Ehren, ein jeder in seiner Gruft,

du aber bist hinausgeworfen aus deinem Grabe wie ein unnützer Klotz, besudelt und bedeckt von denen, die durch das Schwert gefallen, und solchen, die in die Tiefe des Abgrundes gefahren sind, wie ein faulendes Aas.

Nicht sollst du teilhaben noch mit ihnen im Grabe ruhen, denn du hast dein Land zerrüttet, hast dein Volk erschlagen; nimmermehr wird man der Nachkommen der Bösewichter gedenken.

Führet seine Kinder zum Tode um der Schuld ihrer Väter willen; sie sollen sich nicht erheben noch das Land wieder in Besitz nehmen noch die Fläche des Erdkreises mit Städten erfüllen.

Zerstörtes Babylon

Und ich werde mich gegen sie erheben, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, und werde den Namen Babylons ausrotten und jede Spur, Schössling und Sprössling, spricht der Herr.

Und ich werde sie zum Besitze des Igels und zu Wassersümpfen machen und mit dem Besen der Vernichtung hinwegkehren, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Assyrien vernichtet

Der Herr der Heerscharen hat geschworen und gesprochen: Wahrlich, wie ich es gedacht habe, wird es sein, und wie ich es bei mir beschlossen,

so wird es geschehen: Dass ich Assyrien in meinem Lande zerschmettere und auf meinen Bergen zertrete, dann wird sein Joch von ihnen genommen und seine Last von ihren Schultern hinweggeschafft.

Dies ist der Ratschluss, den ich gefasst über die ganze Erde, und dies ist die Hand, welche über alle Völker ausgestreckt ist.

Denn der Herr der Heerscharen hat es beschlossen, wer kann es hindern? Seine Hand ist ausgestreckt, wer will sie abwenden?

Philisterland vernichtet

Im Jahre, in dem der König Achaz starb, erging diese Last.

Freue dich nicht, du gesamtes Philisterland! Dass der Stab dessen zerbrochen, der dich schlug; denn aus der Schlangenwurzel wird ein Basilisk hervorgehen und ihr Same ein Vögelwürger sein.

Und die Ärmsten der Armen werden versorgt werden, die Dürftigen werden in Sicherheit wohnen; dein Geschlecht aber werde ich durch Hunger zugrunde gehen lassen und, was übrigbleibt, werde ich töten.

Heule, o Tor, schreie auf, o Stadt! Zu Boden liegt das gesamte Philisterland; denn vom Norden her wird Rauch kommen und niemand kann seinem Zuge entfliehen.

Und was wird man den Boten des Volkes antworten? Der Herr hat Sion gegründet und die Armen seines Volks hoffen auf ihn.
