- Kapitel 30 -

Wo to the rebellious children, sayth the Lord, that take counsell, but not of me, and couer with a couering, but not by my spirit, that they may lay sinne vpon sinne:

Which walke forth to goe downe into Egypt (and haue not asked at my mouth) to strengthen them selues with the strength of Pharaoh, and trust in the shadowe of Egypt.

But the strength of Pharaoh shalbe your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

For his princes were at Zoan, and his Ambassadours came vnto Hanes.

They shalbe all ashamed of the people that cannot profite them, nor helpe nor doe them good, but shalbe a shame and also a reproche.

The burden of the beasts of the South, in a land of trouble and anguish, from whence shall come the yong and olde lyon, the viper and fierie flying serpent against them that shall beare their riches vpon the shoulders of the coltes, and their treasures vpon the bounches of the camels, to a people that cannot profite.

For the Egyptians are vanitie, and they shall helpe in vaine. Therefore haue I cried vnto her, Their strength is to sit still.

Now go, and write it before them in a table, and note it in a booke that it may be for the last day for euer and euer:

That it is a rebellious people, lying children, and children that would not heare the law of the Lord.

Which say vnto the Seers, See not: and to the Prophets, Prophecie not vnto vs right things: but speake flattering things vnto vs: prophecie errours.

Depart out of the way: go aside out of the path: cause the holy one of Israel to cease from vs.

Therefoe thus saith the holy one of Israel, Because you haue cast off this worde, and trust in violence, and wickednes, and stay thereupon,

Therefore this iniquitie shalbe vnto you as a breach that falleth, or a swelling in an hie wall, whose breaking commeth suddenly in a moment.

And the breaking thereof is like the breaking of a potters pot, which is broken without pitie, and in the breaking thereof is not found a sheard to take fire out of the hearth, or to take water out of the pit.

For thus sayd the Lord God, the Holy one of Israel, In rest and quietnes shall ye be saued: in quietnes and in confidence shall be your strength, but ye would not.

For ye haue sayd, No, but we wil flee away vpon horses. Therefore shall ye flee. We will ride vpon the swiftest. Therefore shall your persecuters be swifter.

A thousand as one shall flee at the rebuke of one: at the rebuke of fiue shall ye flee, till ye be left as a ship maste vpon the top of a mountaine, and as a beaken vpon an hill.

God Will Be Gracious

Yet therefore will the Lord waite, that he may haue mercy vpon you, and therefore wil he be exalted, that hee may haue compassion vpon you: for the Lord is the God of iudgement. Blessed are all they that waite for him.

Surely a people shall dwell in Zion, and in Ierusalem: thou shalt weepe no more: he wil certainly haue mercy vpon thee at the voyce of thy crye: when he heareth thee, he wil answere thee.

And when the Lord hath giuen you the bread of aduersitie, and the water of affliction, thy raine shalbe no more kept backe, but thine eyes shall see thy raine.

And thine eares shall heare a worde behind thee, saying, This is the way, walke ye in it, when thou turnest to the right hand, and when thou turnest to the left.

And ye shall pollute the couering of the images of siluer, and the riche ornament of thine images of golde, and cast them away as a menstruous cloth, and thou shalt say vnto it, Get thee hence.

Then shall hee giue raine vnto thy seede, when thou shalt sowe the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shalbe fat and as oyle: in that day shall thy cattell be fed in large pastures.

The oxen also and the yong asses, that till the ground, shall eate cleane prouender, which is winowed with the shoouel and with the fanne.

And vpon euery hie mountaine, and vpon euery hie hill shall there be riuers and streames of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers shall fall.

Moreouer, the light of the moone shall be as the light of the sunne, and the light of the sunne shalbe seuen folde, and like the light of seuen dayes in the day that the Lord shall binde vp the breach of his people, and heale the stroke of their wound.

Beholde, the Name of the Lord commeth from farre, his face is burning, and the burden thereof is heauy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a deuouring fire.

And his spirit is as a riuer that ouerfloweth vp to the necke: it deuideth asunder, to fanne the nations with the fanne of vanitie, and there shall be a bridle to cause them to erre in the chawes of the people.

But there shall be a song vnto you as in the night, when solemne feast is kept: and gladnes of heart, as he that commeth with a pipe to goe vnto the mount of the Lord, to the mightie one of Israel.

And the Lord shall cause his glorious voyce to be heard, and shall declare the lighting downe of his arme with the anger of his countenance, and flame of a deuouring fire, with scattering and tempest, and hailestones.

For with the voyce of the Lord shall Asshur be destroyed, which smote with the rod.

And in euery place that ye staffe shall passe, it shall cleaue fast, which the Lord shall lay vpon him with tabrets and harpes: and with battels, and lifting vp of hands shall he fight against it.

For Tophet is prepared of olde: it is euen prepared for the King: hee hath made it deepe and large: the burning thereof is fire and much wood: the breath of the Lord, like a riuer of brimstone, doeth kindle it.

Vergebliche Zuversicht in Ägypten

Wehe euch, ihr abtrünnigen Söhne, spricht der Herr, die ihr einen Plan betreibt, aber nicht auf mein Geheiß, und ein Gewebe anzettelt, aber nicht durch meinen Geist, damit ihr Sünde auf Sünde häuft!

Die ihr nach Ägypten hinabziehen wollt, ohne meinen Mund zu befragen, Hilfe hoffend von der Stärke Pharaos, Vertrauen setzend auf Ägyptens Schatten.

Es wird euch die Stärke Pharaos zur Beschämung gereichen und das Vertrauen auf Ägyptens Schatten zur Schmach!

Denn sind deine Fürsten auch in Tanis und dringen deine Boten bis nach Hanes,

so werden doch alle zuschanden wegen des Volkes, das ihnen nicht nützen kann; jene bringen ihnen keine Hilfe und keinen Nutzen, sondern Beschämung und Beschimpfung.

Last über die Lasttiere des Südens. In einem Lande der Trübsal und Angst, wo Löwen und Löwinnen weilen, Nattern und fliegende Basilisken, führen sie auf dem Rücken der Lasttiere ihre Reichtümer und auf den Höckern der Kamele ihre Schätze zu einem Volke, das ihnen nichts wird nützen können.

Denn eitel und nichtig wird die Hilfe Ägyptens sein; darum rief ich über dasselbe aus: Es ist nur Aufgeblasenheit, bleibe in Ruhe!

Ein rebellisches Volk

Nun also gehe hin und schreibe es ihm auf eine Tafel und trage es sorgfältig in ein Buch ein, dass es für die Folgezeit zum Zeugnisse bleibe bis in Ewigkeit!

Denn es ist ein Volk, das zum Zorne reizt, lügnerische Söhne, Söhne, die das Gesetz Gottes nicht hören wollen,

die zu den Sehern sprechen: „Sehet nicht! Und zu den Schauenden: Erschauet uns nicht das, was Recht ist; saget uns, was uns gefällt, erschauet und Täuschung!

Schaffet weg von mir den Weg, entfernet von mir den Pfad, es weiche von unserm Angesichte der Heilige Israels!“

Deshalb spricht der Heilige Israels also: Weil ihr dieses Wort verworfen und auf Gewalt und Empörung vertraut und euch darauf gestützt habt,

deswegen wird euch diese Verschuldung wie ein Riss werden, der den Einsturz droht, und wie eine baufällige Stelle an einer hohen Mauer; denn plötzlich erfolgt, während man es nicht erwartet, ihr Zusammensturz.

Und sie bricht in Trümmer, wie wenn ein Töpfergeschirr durch gewaltsamen Stoß zerschmettert wird, und man wird von seinen Stücken nicht eine Scherbe finden, in der man ein Feuerchen vom Herde holen oder ein wenig Wasser aus der Zisterne schöpfen könnte.

Denn so spricht Gott, der Herr, der Heilige Israels: Wenn ihr umkehrt und ruhig bleibt, so werdet ihr gerettet werden; in Stille und Vertrauen besteht eure Stärke. Aber ihr habt nicht gewollt.

Ihr sprachet: „Nein, sondern zu den Rossen wollen wir flüchten,“ darum sollt ihr euch auch flüchten; „auf schnelle Läufer wollen wir steigen!“ darum sollen eure Verfolger schneller laufen.

tausend werden vor eines einzigen Dräuen fliehen und vor dem Dräuen von fünf werdet ihr fliehen, bis ihr verlassen dasteht wie ein Mastbaum auf Bergesgipfel und wie ein Feldzeichen auf dem Hügel.

Gott wird gnädig sein

Deswegen harrt der Herr, dass er sich eurer erbarme, und deshalb erhebt er sich, euch schonend; denn der Herr ist ein Gott des Rechtes; glückselig alle, die auf ihn harren.

Denn in Sion wird das Volk wohnen, zu Jerusalem; du wirst nicht ferner weinen, gewiss, er wird sich deiner erbarmen; wenn du um Hilfe rufst, wird er dir antworten, sobald er es vernommen.

Und der Herr wird euch wohl schmales Brot und kärgliches Wasser geben; aber er wird nicht mehr zulassen, dass dein Lehrer sich von dir entferne, und deine Augen werden deinen Unterweiser sehen.

Deine Ohren werden das Wort hören, mit dem er hinter dir her mahnen wird: „Dies ist der Weg, wandelt darauf und weichet weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken ab!“

Dann wirst du den silbernen Überzug deiner geschnitzten Götzen und die goldene Bekleidung deines Gußbildes entweihen und wirst sie wegwerfen wie den Unflat einer Blutflüssigen und dazu sagen: Hinaus!

Dann wird deiner Aussaat Regen zuteil werden, wo du immer das Land besäest, das Brot deiner Feldfrüchte wird sehr reichlich und fett sein und auf deinem Besitztum wird an jenem Tage das Lamm weithin weiden.

Und deine Stiere und Eselsfüllen, die das Land bearbeiten, werden wohlgemischtes Mengfutter fressen, so wie es auf der Tenne geworfelt wird.

Und auf jedem hohen Berge und auf jedem erhabenen Hügel werden Bäche strömender Wasser sein am Tage des Hinmordens vieler, wenn die Türme hinstürzen.

Und das Licht des Mondes wird gleich dem Sonnenlicht sein und das Sonnenlicht siebenfach scheinen wie das Licht von sieben Tagen, zur Zeit, wo der Herr die Wunde seines Volkes verbindet und die Schäden seiner Schläge heilt.

Gericht über Assyrien

Siehe, der Name des Herrn kommt von fern, brennend ist sein Zorn und schwer zu tragen, seine Lippen sind voll Grimm und seine Zunge wie verzehrendes Feuer;

sein Odem ist wie ein Waldstrom, der bis zur Mitte des Halses hinaufflutet, die Völker zu vernichten, und wie ein Zaum der Irreführung, welcher im Gebiss der Völker liegt.

Da werdet ihr singen wie in der geheiligten Festesnacht und euer Herz wird sich freuen, wie wenn man mit Flötenspiel hinzieht, auf den Berg des Herrn zu gehen, zum Starken Israels.

Und der Herr wird seine majestätische Stimme hören lassen und die Schrecken seines Armes zeigen unter zornigem Dräuen und aufloderndem, verzehrendem Feuer, wird zerschmettern unter Sturm und Hagelwetter.

Denn vor der Stimme des Herrn wird Assur erbeben, wenn ihn die Rute trifft.

Und das Niederfahren der Rute auf ihn wird fest beschlossen sein und der Herr wird sie auf ihn niederfallen lassen unter Paukenschall und Harfenspiel, in auserlesenen Kämpfen wird er sie niederwerfen.

Denn von ehegestern her ist ein Topheth bereitet, von dem Könige zubereitet, tief und weit. Seine Nahrung ist Feuer und Holz in Fülle, der Odem des Herrn setzt es in Brand wie ein Schwefelstrom.
