- Kapitel 6 -

(1 Kings 8:12–21)

Then Salomon sayd, The Lord hath sayde that he would dwell in the darke cloude:

And I haue built thee an house to dwell in, an habitation for thee to dwell in for euer.

And the King turned his face, and blessed all the Congregation of Israel (for all the Congregation of Israel stoode there)

And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spake with his mouth vnto Dauid my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no citie of al the tribes of Israel to buylde an house, that my Name might be there, neyther chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel:

But I haue chosen Ierusalem, that my Name might be there, and haue chosen Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.

And it was in the heart of Dauid my father to builde an house vnto the Name of the Lord God of Israel,

But the Lord sayde to Dauid my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to buylde an house vnto my Name, thou diddest well, that thou wast so minded.

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house, but thy sonne which shall come out of thy loynes, he shall buylde an house vnto my Name.

And the Lord hath performed his worde that he spake: and I am risen vp in the roume of Dauid my father, and am set on the throne of Israel as the Lord promised, and haue built an house to the Name of the Lord God of Israel.

And I haue set the Arke there, wherein is the couenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

(1 Kings 8:22–53)

And the King stoode before the altar of the Lord, in the presence of all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands,

(For Salomon had made a brasen skaffold and set it in the middes of the court, of fiue cubites long, and fiue cubites broade, and three cubites of height, and vpon it he stoode, and kneeled downe vpon his knees before all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands toward heauen)

And sayd, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heauen nor in earth, which keepest couenant, and mercie vnto thy seruants, that walke before thee with all their heart.

Thou that hast kept with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him: for thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as appeareth this day.

Therefore now Lord God of Israel, keepe with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him, saying, Thou shalt not want a man in my sight, that shall sit vpon the throne of Israel: so that thy sonnes take heede to their wayes, to walke in my Lawe, as thou hast walked before me.

And now, O Lord God of Israel, let thy worde be verified, which thou spakest vnto thy seruant Dauid.

(Is it true in deede that God will dwell with man on earth? beholde, the heauens, and the heauens of heauens are not able to conteine thee: how much more vnable is this house, which I haue buylt?)

But haue thou respect to the prayer of thy seruant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to heare the crye and prayer which thy seruant prayeth before thee,

That thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, euen toward the place, whereof thou hast sayde, that thou wouldest put thy Name there, that thou mayest hearken vnto the prayer, which thy seruant prayeth in this place.

Heare thou therefore the supplication of thy seruant, and of thy people Israel, which they pray in this place: and heare thou in the place of thine habitation, euen in heauen, and when thou hearest, be mercifull.

When a man shall sinne against his neighbour, and he laye vpon him an othe to cause him to sweare, and the swearer shall come before thine altar in this house,

Then heare thou in heauen, and doe, and iudge thy seruants, in recompensing the wicked to bring his way vpon his head, and in iustifying the righteous, to giue him according to his righteousnes.

And when thy people Israel shalbe ouerthrowen before the enemie, because they haue sinned against thee, and turne againe, and confesse thy Name, and pray, and make supplication before thee in this house,

Then heare thou in heauen, and be mercifull vnto the sinne of thy people Israel, and bring them againe vnto the land which thou gauest to them and to their fathers.

When heauen shall be shut vp, and there shalbe no rayne, because they haue sinned against thee, and shall pray in this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them,

Then heare thou in heauen, and pardon the sinne of thy seruants, and of thy people Israel (when thou hast taught them the good way wherein they may walke) and giue rayne vpon thy lande, which thou hast giuen vnto thy people for an inheritance.

When there shalbe famine in the land, when there shalbe pestilence, blasting, or mildew, when there shall be grashopper, or caterpiller, when their enemie shall besiege them in the cities of their land, or any plague or any sickenesse,

Then what prayer and supplication so euer shalbe made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, whe euery one shall knowe his owne plague, and his owne disease, and shall stretch forth his hands toward this house,

Heare thou then in heauen, thy dwelling place, and be merciful, and giue euery man according vnto all his wayes, as thou doest knowe his heart (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men)

That they may feare thee, and walke in thy wayes as long as they liue in the land which thou gauest vnto our fathers.

Moreouer, as touching ye stranger which is not of thy people Israel, who shall come out of a farre countrey for thy great Names sake, and thy mighty hande, and thy stretched out arme: when they shall come and pray in this house,

Heare thou in heauen thy dwelling place, and doe according to all that the stranger calleth for vnto thee, that all the people of the earth may knowe thy Name, and feare thee like thy people Israel, and that they may knowe, that thy Name is called vpon in this house which I haue built.

When thy people shall goe out to battell against their enemies, by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray to thee, in the way towarde this citie, which thou hast chosen, euen toward the house which I haue built to thy Name,

Then heare thou in heauen their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause.

If they sinne against thee ( for there is no man that sinneth not) and thou be angry with them and deliuer them vnto the enemies, and they take them and cary them away captiue vnto a land farre or neere,

If they turne againe to their heart in the lande whither they be caryed in captiues, and turne and pray vnto thee in the lande of their captiuitie, saying, We haue sinned, we haue transgressed and haue done wickedly,

If they turne againe to thee with all their heart, and with all their soule in the land of their captiuitie, whither they haue caryed them captiues, and pray toward their land, which thou gauest vnto their fathers, and toward the citie which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I haue built for thy Name,

Then heare thou in heauen, in the place of thine habitation their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause, and be mercifull vnto thy people, which haue sinned against thee.

Nowe my God, I beseech thee, let thine eyes be open, and thine eares attent vnto the prayer that is made in this place.

Nowe therefore arise, O Lord God, to come into thy rest, thou, and the Arke of thy strength: O Lord God, let thy Priestes be clothed with saluation, and let thy Saints reioyce in goodnesse.

O Lord God, refuse not the face of thine anoynted: remember the mercies promised to Dauid thy seruant.

(1. Könige 8,12-21)

Da sprach Salomon: Der Herr hat verheißen, im Dunkel zu wohnen;

ich habe nun seinem Namen ein Haus gebaut, dass er in demselben auf ewig wohne.

Salomos Rede nach Fertigstellung des Bauwerks

Hierauf wandte der König sein Angesicht und wünschte der ganzen Versammlung Israels (denn die ganze Gemeinde stand aufhorchend da) Segen und er sprach:

Gepriesen sei der Herr, der Gott Israels, der in der Tat erfüllt hat, was er meinem Vater David verheißen, da er sagte:

Seit dem Tage, da ich mein Volk aus dem Lande Ägypten geführt, habe ich keine Stadt von allen Stämmen Israels erwählt, dass meinem Namen darin ein Haus erbaut werde; auch erwählte ich keinen andern Mann, dass er Fürst über mein Volk Israel sei,

aber Jerusalem habe ich erwählt, dass mein Name dort sei, und David habe ich erwählt, ihn über mein Volk Israel zu setzen.

Mein Vater David war willens, dem Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, ein Haus zu bauen,

doch der Herr sprach zu ihm: Dass dies dein Wille war, meinem Namen ein Haus zu bauen, daran hast du zwar wohl getan, dass du einen solchen Willen hattest,

aber nicht du sollst das Haus bauen, sondern dein Sohn, der aus deinen Lenden kommen wird, er soll meinem Namen ein Haus bauen.

So hat der Herr denn sein Wort, das er gesprochen, erfüllt und ich bin an meines Vaters David statt getreten und habe den Thron Israels eingenommen, wie der Herr verheißen hat, und ich habe dem Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, ein Haus gebaut

und in dasselbe die Lade gesetzt, in welcher der Bund des Herrn ist, den er mit den Söhnen Israels geschlossen hat.

Salomos Gebet zur Einweihung

(1. Könige 8,22-53)

Alsdann trat er vor den Altar des Herrn, der ganzen Gemeinde Israel gegenüber, und breitete seine Hände aus.

Salomon hatte nämlich ein ehernes Gestell machen lassen und mitten in den Hallenbau gesetzt, fünf Ellen lang und fünf Ellen breit und drei Ellen hoch; auf dieses trat er und beugte seine Kniee der ganzen Gemeinde Israel gegenüber und erhob seine Hände gen Himmel.

und sprach: Herr, Gott Israels! Es ist kein Gott wie du im Himmel oder auf Erden; der du den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit deinen Dienern bewahrst, die von ganzem Herzen vor dir wandeln;

der du deinem Diener David, meinem Vater, alles gehalten hast, was du zu ihm geredet und in der Tat erfüllt hast, was du versprochen, wie es der heutige Tag zeigt.

So lass denn, Herr, Gott Israels, deinem Diener, meinem Vater David, alles in Erfüllung gehen, was du ihm verheißen hast, da du sprachest: Es soll dir nicht an einem Nachkommen fehlen vor mir, der auf dem Throne Israel sitze, wenn nur deine Söhne acht haben auf ihre Wege und in meinem Gesetze wandeln, wie auch du vor mir gewandelt bist.

So lass nun Herr, Gott Israels! dein Wort in Erfüllung gehen, welches du zu deinem Vater David gesprochen hast.

Ist es denn glaublich, dass Gott bei den Menschen auf Erden Wohnung nehmen sollte? Wenn der Himmel und die Himmel der Himmel dich nicht fassen können, wie viel weniger dieses Haus, welches ich erbaut habe!

Aber darum allein ist es errichtet, dass du auf das Gebet deines Dieners und sein Flehen acht habest, o Herr, mein Gott! und die Bitten hörest, welche dein Diener vor dir darbringt,

dass du deine Augen über dieses Haus offen haltest Tag und Nacht, über die Stätte, wo, wie du verheißen, dein Name angerufen werden soll,

und dass du das Gebet erhörest, welches dein Diener daselbst verrichtet, und das Flehen deines Dieners und deines Volkes Israel erhörest. Wer immer an diesem Ort betet, den erhöre von deiner Wohnung, das ist vom Himmel her, und sei ihm gnädig.

Wenn sich jemand wider seinen Nächsten versündigt und er kommt, bereit, wider ihn einen Schwur zu leisten und nimmt einen Eid auf sich mit einem Fluchwunsche vor dem Altar in diesem Hause,

so wolltest du vom Himmel her hören und deine Diener richten, so dass du den Wandel des Schuldigen auf sein eigenes Haupt zurückbringst und dem Gerechten Genugtuung schaffst, indem du ihm nach seiner Gerechtigkeit vergiltst.

Wenn dein Volk Israel von seinen Feinden überwunden wird (denn sie werden wider dich sündigen) und sie sich bekehren und Buße tun und deinen Namen anrufen und an diesem Orte flehen,

so wollest du vom Himmel her hören und die Sünde deines Volkes Israel vergeben und sie in das Land zurückbringen, dass du ihnen und ihren Vätern gegeben hast.

Wenn der Himmel verschlossen ist und um der Sünde des Volkes willen kein Regen fällt und sie flehen zu dir an diesem Orte und bekennen deinen Namen und bekehren sich von ihren Sünden, da du sie züchtigst,

so wollest du vom Himmel her hören, o Herr! und deinen Dienern und deinem Volke Israel ihre Sünden vergeben und sie den guten Weg lehren, auf dem sie wandeln sollen, und Regen dem Lande geben, welches du deinem Volke zum Besitze gegeben hast.

Wenn eine Hungersnot im Lande entsteht, wenn Pest, Dürre und Brand und Heuschrecken und Raupen oder wenn die Feinde das Land verwüsten und die Tore der Stadt belagern, wenn irgend eine Plage und Elend bedrängt,

wer dann von deinem Volke Israel fleht, seine Plage und sein Elend erkennt und seine Hände in diesem Hause ausbreitet,

den wollest du vom Himmel, von deiner hohen Wohnung her, hören und ihm gnädig sein und einem jeden nach seinem Wandel vergelten, wie du denselben in seinem Herzen erkennst (denn du allein kennst die Herzen der Menschenkinder);

auf dass sie dich fürchten und auf deinen Wegen wandeln alle Tage, solange sie in dem Lande leben, das du unsern Vätern gegeben hast.

Auch wenn ein Fremder, welcher nicht zu deinem Volke Israel gehört, aus seinem Lande kommt, um deines großen Namens und deiner starken Hand und deines ausgestreckten Armes willen, und an diesem Orte anbetet,

so wollest du vom Himmel, deiner festen Wohnung her, hören und alles tun, um was jener Fremde dich anruft; damit alle Völker der Erde deinen Namen erkennen und dich fürchten, so wie dein Volk Israel, und erkennen, dass dein Name über dies Haus angerufen ist, welches ich erbaut habe.

Wenn dein Volk zum Kampfe wider seine Feinde auf dem Wege auszieht, den du sie sendest, und sie beten dich an, nach dieser Stadt gewendet, die du erkoren hast, und wo das Haus ist, welches ich deinem Namen erbaut habe,

so wollest du vom Himmel her ihr Gebet und ihr Flehen hören und Recht schaffen.

Wenn sie aber wider dich sündigen (es ist ja kein Mensch, der nicht sündigte,) und du zürnst über sie und gibst sie den Feinden preis und diese führen sie gefangen in ein fernes oder nahes Land,

und sie bekehren sich von Herzen in dem Lande, in das sie gefangen fortgeführt worden sind, und tun Buße und flehen zu dir im Lande ihrer Gefangenschaft und sprechen: Wir haben gesündigt, wir haben gottlos gehandelt und Böses getan,

und sie bekehren sich zu dir von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele im Lande ihrer Gefangenschaft, in das sie geführt worden sind, und beten dich an, sich nach ihrem Lande hinwendend, welches du ihren Vätern gegeben, und nach der Stadt, die du erwählt hast, und nach dem Hause, welches ich deinem Namen erbaut habe,

so wollest du vom Himmel, deiner festen Wohnung her, ihr Gebet erhören und Recht schaffen und deinem Volke vergeben, obwohl es gesündigt hat.

Denn du bist mein Gott! lass doch deine Augen offen stehen und deine Ohren auf das Gebet aufmerken, das an diesem Orte verrichtet wird.

Darum erhebe dich jetzt, Herr, Gott! zu deiner Ruhe, du und die Lade deiner Macht! Lass deine Priester, o Herr und Gott! mit Heil bekleidet sein und deine Heiligen sich des Guten freuen!

Herr, Gott! weise das Angesicht deines Gesalbten nicht ab; gedenke der Gnadenerweise gegen deinen Diener David!
