- Kapitel 1 -

The words of Jeremias the son of Helcias, of the priests that were in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin.

The word of the Lord which came to him in the days of Josias the son of Amon king of Juda, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

And which came to him in the days of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, unto the end of the eleventh year of Sedecias the son of Josias king of Juda, even unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made thee a prophet unto the nations.

And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.

And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak.

Be not afraid at their presence: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

And the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me: Behold I have given my words in thy mouth:

Lo, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over the kingdoms, to root up, and pull down, and to waste, and to destroy, and to build, and to plant.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: What seest thou, Jeremias? And I said: I see a rod watching.

And the Lord said to me: Thou hast seen well: for I will watch over my word to perform it.

And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying: What seest thou? I see a boiling caldron, and the face thereof from the face of the north.

And the Lord said to me: from the north shall an evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

For behold I will call together all the families of the kingdoms of the north: saith the Lord: and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all the walls thereof round about, and upon all the cities of Juda,

And I will pronounce my judgements against them, touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, and have adored the work of their own hands.

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command thee. Be not afraid at their presence: for I will make thee not to fear their countenance.

For behold I have made thee this day a fortified city, and a pillar of iron, and a wall of brass, over all the land, to the kings of Juda, to the princes thereof, and to the priests, and to the people of the land.

And they shall fight against thee, and shall not prevail: for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

Worte des Jeremias, des Sohnes Helkias, einer der Priester, welche zu Anathoth, im Lande Benjamin, waren.

Wort des Herrn, das an ihn in den Tagen Josias, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda, im dreizehnten Jahre seiner Regierung ergangen ist

und in den Tagen Joakims ergangen ist, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, bis zum Ende des ersten Jahres des Sedekias, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, bis zur Wegführung Jerusalems im fünften Monat.

Der Prophet wird berufen

Und das Wort des Herrn erging an mich also:

Ehe ich dich im Mutterleibe bildete, habe ich dich gekannt; und ehe du hervorgingst aus dem Mutterschoße, habe ich dich geheiligt und dich zum Propheten für die Völker bestellt.

Da sprach ich: Ach, ach, ach! Herr und Gott! siehe, ich weiß nicht zu reden, denn ich bin ein Kind!

Der Herr aber sprach zu mir: Sage nicht: Ich bin ein Kind; denn zu allem, wozu ich dich sende, sollst du gehen und alles, was ich dir befehlen werde, sollst du sprechen.

Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen, den ich bin mit dir, dich zu erretten, spricht der Herr.

Alsdann streckte der Herr seine Hand aus und berührte meinen Mund, und der Herr sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich lege meine Worte in deinen Mund;

siehe, ich bestelle dich heute über die Völker und über die Reiche, um auszureißen und zu zerstören, zu verderben und niederzureißen, aufzubauen und zu pflanzen.

Und das Wort des Herrn erging an mich also: Was siehst du, Jeremias? Ich sprach: Einen Wachestab sehe ich.

Da sprach der Herr zu mir: Du hast recht gesehen; ja, ich werde über mein Wort wachen, um es auszuführen.

Und das Wort des Herrn erging an mich zum zweiten Mal also: Was siehst du? Ich erwiderte: Einen im Feuer stehenden Topf sehe ich, er kehrt seine Vorderseite von Norden her zu.

Da sprach der Herr zu mir: Von Norden her wird sich das Unheil über alle Bewohner des Landes ergießen;

denn siehe, ich werde alle Völker der Reiche des Nordens berufen, spricht der Herr, dass sie kommen und ein jeder seinen Stuhl an dem Eingange der Tore Jerusalems aufstelle und gegen alle Städte Judas.

Und ich werde mein Strafurteil über sie aussprechen wegen all ihrer Bosheit, dass sie mich verlassen und fremden Göttern geopfert und das Werk ihrer Hände angebetet haben.

So gürte denn deine Lenden und mach dich auf und rede zu ihnen alles, was ich dir auftrage! Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; denn ich will machen, dass du vor ihnen nicht zu zagen habest.

Mache ich dich doch heute zu einer festen Stadt, zu einer eisernen Säule und zu einer ehernen Mauer gegenüber dem ganzen Lande, wider die Könige von Juda und seine Fürsten, die Priester und das Volk des Landes.

Wenn sie wider dich kämpfen werden, so werden sie doch nichts über dich vermögen, denn ich bin mit dir, spricht der Herr, dich zu erretten.
