- Kapitel 11 -

(Luke 7:18–23)

And it happened that, when Jesus had completed instructing his twelve disciples, he went away from there in order to teach and to preach in their cities.

Now when John had heard, in prison, about the works of Christ, sending two of his disciples, he said to him,

“Are you he who is to come, or should we expect another?”

And Jesus, responding, said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen.

The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.

And blessed is he who has found no offense in me.”

Jesus Testifies about John

(Malachi 3:1–5; Luke 7:24–35)

Then, after they departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

So what did you go out to see? A man in soft garments? Behold, those who are clothed in soft garments are in the houses of kings.

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

For this is he, of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.’

Amen I say to you, among those born of women, there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

But from the days of John the Baptist, even until now, the kingdom of heaven has endured violence, and the violent carry it away.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied, even until John.

And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah, who is to come.

Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.

But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplace,

who, calling out to their companions, say: ‘We played music for you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not mourn.’

For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say, ‘He has a demon.’

The Son of man came eating and drinking; and they say, ‘Behold, a man who eats voraciously and who drinks wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is justified by her sons.”

Woe to the Unrepentant

(Luke 10:13–16)

Then he began to rebuke the cities in which many of his miracles were accomplished, for they still had not repented.

“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in haircloth and ashes.

Yet truly, I say to you, Tyre and Sidon shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.

And you, Capernaum, would you be exalted all the way to heaven? You shall descend all the way to Hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, perhaps it would have remained, even to this day.

Yet truly, I say to you, that the land of Sodom shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.”

Rest for the Weary

(Luke 10:21–24)

At that time, Jesus responded and said: “I acknowledge you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones.

Yes, Father, for this was pleasing before you.

All things have been delivered to me by my Father. And no one knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son is willing to reveal him.

Come to me, all you who labor and have been burdened, and I will refresh you.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is sweet and my burden is light.”

Johannes der Täufer sendet Boten zu Jesus

(Lukas 7,18-23)

Und es begab sich, als Jesus die Weisungen an seine zwölf Jünger vollendet hatte, ging er von da weg, um in ihren Städten zu lehren und zu predigen.

Als aber Johannes im Gefängnisse die Werke Christi vernahm, sandte er zwei aus seinen Jüngern

und ließ ihm sagen: Bist du der, der da kommen soll, oder haben wir einen anderen zu erwarten?

Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin, und verkündet dem Johannes, was ihr gehört und gesehen habt:

Blinde sind sehend, Lahme gehen, Aussätzige werden rein, Taube hören, Tote stehen auf, Armen wird die frohe Botschaft verkündet;

und selig ist, wer sich an mir nicht ärgert!

(Maleachi 3,1-5; Lukas 7,24-35)

Während aber diese hinweggingen, fing Jesus an, zu dem Volke von Johannes zu reden: Was seid ihr in die Wüste hinausgegangen zu sehen? Ein Rohr, das vom Winde hin und her bewegt wird?

Oder, was seid ihr hinausgegangen zu sehen? Einen Menschen, mit weichlichen Kleidern angetan? Siehe, die da weichliche Kleider tragen, sind in den Häusern der Könige.

Oder, was seid ihr hinausgegangen zu sehen? Einen Propheten? Ja, ich sage euch, einen, der mehr ist als ein Prophet.

Denn dieser ist´s, von dem geschrieben steht: Siehe, ich sende meinen Engel vor deinem Angesichte her, der deinen Weg vor dir her bereiten soll.

Wahrlich, ich sage euch, unter den von Weibern geborenen ist kein Größerer aufgestanden als Johannes, der Täufer; der Geringste aber im Himmelreich ist größer als er!

Aber von den Tagen Johannes, des Täufers, an bis jetzt leidet das Himmelreich Gewalt, und die Gewalt brauchen, reißen es an sich.

Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz bis auf Johannes haben geweissaget;

und wenn ihr es annehmen wollet, er selber ist Elias, der da kommen soll.

Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre!

Wem aber soll ich dieses Geschlecht vergleichen? Es ist Kindern gleich, die auf dem Markte sitzen, und ihren Gespielen zurufen,

und sagen: Wir haben euch geflötet, und ihr habt nicht getanzt; wir haben Klagelieder gesungen, und ihr habt nicht geklagt.

Denn Johannes kam, er aß und trank nicht, und sie sagen: Er hat den Teufel!

Der Menschensohn kam, er isst und trinkt, und sie sagen: Sehet, er ist ein Fresser und Weinsäufer, ein Freund der Zöllner und Sünder! Und die Weisheit ward von ihren Kindern gerechtfertigt.

Wehe den unbußfertigen Städten

(Lukas 10,13-16)

Alsdann fing er an, die Städte zu strafen, in welchen sehr viele Wunder geschehen waren, darum dass sie nicht Buße getan hatten.

Wehe dir Korozain! wehe dir, Bethsaida! denn wenn in Thyrus und Sidon die Wunder geschehen wären, welche in euch geschehen sind, längst hätten sie in Sack und Asche Buße getan.

Allein ich sage euch: Tyrus und Sidon wird es erträglicher ergehen am Tage des Gerichtes, als euch.

Und du, Kapharnaum! wirst du etwa bis in den Himmel erhöht werden? Bis in die Hölle wirst du hinabsteigen; denn wenn in Sodoma die Wunder geschehen wären, welche in dir geschehen sind, es stünde wohl bis auf diesen Tag.

Jedoch ich sage euch, dem Lande der Sodomiter wird es erträglicher ergehen am Tage des Gerichtes als dir.

Jesus schenkt wahre Ruhe

(Lukas 10,21-24)

Zu jener Zeit nahm Jesus das Wort, und sprach: Ich preise dich, Vater, Herr des Himmels und der Erde! Dass du dieses vor Weisen und Klugen verborgen, Einfältigen aber offenbaret hast.

Ja, Vater! weil es also wohlgefällig gewesen ist vor dir.

Alles ist mir von meinem Vater übergeben; und niemand kennt den Sohn außer der Vater; und auch den Vater kennet niemand außer der Sohn, und wem es der Sohn offenbaren will.

Kommet zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid, und ich werde euch erquicken!

Nehmet mein Joch auf euch, und lernet von mir; denn ich bin sanftmütig und demütigen Herzens; so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seelen.

Denn mein Joch ist süß, und meine Bürde leicht.
