- Kapitel 3 -

(Genesis 22:1–10; Romans 5:6–11)

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.

He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.(a)”

“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time to be born?”

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit.

Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You

must be born again.’

The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and you do not understand these things?

Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.

If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.(c)

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.(d)

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only

Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil.

Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”(f)

John’s Testimony about Jesus

After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the Judean countryside, where He spent some time with them and baptized.

Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because the water was plentiful there, and people kept coming to be baptized.

(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)

Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a certain Jew

over the issue of ceremonial washing.

So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Look, Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you testified about—He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”

John replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.

You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but am sent ahead of Him.’

The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom stands and listens for him, and is overjoyed to hear the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

He must increase; I must decrease.

The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all.(h)

He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony.

Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful.

For the One whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”(i)

Die neue Geburt

(2. Mose 22,1-10; Römer 5,6-11)

Es war aber ein Mensch unter den Pharisäern, Nikodemus mit Namen, ein Vorsteher der Juden.

Dieser kam zu Jesus des Nachts und sprach zu ihm: Rabbi! wir wissen, dass du von Gott gekommen bist als Lehrer; denn niemand kann diese Wunder wirken, welche du tust, wenn nicht Gott mit ihm ist.

Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, wenn jemand nicht von neuem geboren wird, so kann er das Reich Gottes nicht sehen!

Da sprach Nikodemus zu ihm: Wie kann ein Mensch geboren werden, wenn er alt ist? Kann er etwa in seiner Mutter Schoß noch einmal eingehen und wiedergeboren werden?

Jesus antwortete: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, wenn jemand nicht wiedergeboren wird aus dem Wasser und dem heiligen Geiste, so kann er in das Reich Gottes nicht eingehen!

Was aus dem Fleisch geboren ist, ist Fleisch; und was aus dem Geiste geboren ist, ist Geist.

Wundere dich nicht, dass ich dir sagte: Ihr müsset von neuem geboren werden!

Der Wind weht, wo er will; und du hörest sein Sausen, aber du weißt nicht, woher er kommt, oder wohin er geht; so ist jeder, der aus dem Geiste geboren wird.

Nikodemus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Wie kann dieses geschehen?

Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Du bist ein Lehrer Israels und weißt dies nicht?

Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, was wir wissen, reden wir, und was wir gesehen haben, bezeugen wir, und ihr nehmet unser Zeugnis nicht an!

Wenn ich Irdisches zu euch redete, und ihr nicht glaubet, wie werdet ihr glauben, wenn ich zu euch Himmlisches rede?

Und niemand ist in den Himmel aufgestiegen, als der von dem Himmel herabgestiegen ist, der Menschensohn, der im Himmel ist.

Und gleichwie Moses die Schlange in der Wüste erhöhet hat, so muss der Menschensohn erhöhet werden,

damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren gehe, sondern das ewige Leben habe.

Denn so sehr hat Gott die Welt geliebt, dass er seinen eingeborenen Sohn hingab, damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren gehe, sondern das ewige Leben habe.

Denn Gott hat seinen Sohn nicht in die Welt gesandt, dass er die Welt richte, sondern dass die Welt durch ihn selig werde.

Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet; wer aber nicht glaubt, der ist schon gerichtet, weil er nicht an den Namen des eingebornen Sohnes Gottes glaubt.

Das aber ist das Gericht, dass das Licht in die Welt gekommen ist, und es liebten die Menschen die Finsternis mehr als das Licht; denn ihre Werke waren böse.

Denn jeder, der Böses tut, hasset das Licht, und kommt nicht an das Licht, damit seine Werke nicht gerügt werden.

Wer aber die Wahrheit tut, kommt an das Licht, damit seine Werke offenbar werden, weil sie in Gott getan sind.

Johannes der Täufer verkündet Christus

Darnach kam Jesus mit seinen Jüngern in die Landschaft Judäa, und hielt sich daselbst mit ihnen auf, und taufte.

Es taufte aber auch Johannes zu Ännon bei Salim, weil daselbst viel Wasser war; und die Menschen kamen und ließen sich taufen.

Denn noch war Johannes nicht in das Gefängnis geworfen worden.

Es erhob sich aber eine Streitfrage unter den Jüngern des Johannes und den Juden über die Reinigung.

Und sie kamen zu Johannes, und sagten zu ihm: Rabbi! Der, welcher bei dir war jenseits des Jordans, dem du Zeugnis gegeben hast, siehe, dieser tauft, und alle kommen zu ihm.

Da antwortete Johannes, und sprach: Ein Mensch kann nichts nehmen, wenn es ihm nicht vom Himmel gegeben ist.

Ihr selbst gebet mir Zeugnis, dass ich gesagt habe: Ich bin nicht Christus, sondern ich bin vor ihm hergesandt.

Wer die Braut hat, ist der Bräutigam; der Freund des Bräutigams aber, welcher da stehet und ihn höret, freuet sich hoch über die Stimme des Bräutigams. Nun denn, diese meine Freude ist erfüllt.

Er muss wachsen, ich aber muss abnehmen.

Wer von oben kommt, ist über allen. Wer von der Erde ist, ist von der Erde, und redet von der Erde. Wer vom Himmel kommt, ist über allen.

Und was er gesehen und gehört hat, das bezeuget er; und niemand nimmt sein Zeugnis an.

Wer aber sein Zeugnis angenommen hat, der hat besiegelt, dass Gott wahrhaftig ist.

Denn der, welchen Gott gesandt hat, redet Worte Gottes; denn Gott gibt den Geist nicht nach einem Maße.

Der Vater liebt den Sohn, und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben.

Wer an den Sohn glaubt, der hat das ewige Leben; wer aber dem Sohne den Glauben verweigert, der wird das Leben nicht sehen, sondern der Zorn Gottes bleibt über ihm.
