The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

- Kapitel 43 -

And it comes to pass, when Jeremiah finishes speaking to all the people all the words of their God YHWH, with which their God YHWH has sent him to them—all these words—

that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the proud men, speak to Jeremiah, saying, “You are speaking falsehood; our God YHWH has not sent you to say, Do not enter Egypt to sojourn there;

for Baruch son of Neriah is moving you against us, in order to give us up into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, and to remove us to Babylon.”

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, and all the people, have not listened to the voice of YHWH, to dwell in the land of Judah;

and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, take all the remnant of Judah who have turned from all the nations to where they were driven to sojourn in the land of Judah,

the men, and the women, and the infant, and the daughters of the king, and every person that Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah,

and they enter the land of Egypt, for they have not listened to the voice of YHWH, and they come as far as Tahpanhes.

And there is a word of YHWH to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

“Take great stones in your hand, and you have hidden them in the clay in the brick-kiln, that [is] at the opening of the house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of Judah,

and you have said to them, Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: Behold, I am sending, and I have taken Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and I have set his throne above these stones that I have hid, and he has stretched out his pavilion over them,

and he has come, and struck the land of Egypt—those who [are] for death to death, and those who [are] for captivity to captivity, and those who [are] for the sword to the sword.

And I have kindled a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and it has burned them, and he has taken them captive, and covered himself with the land of Egypt, as the shepherd covers himself with his garment, and he has gone forth there in peace;

and he has broken the standing pillars of the house of the sun, that [is] in the land of Egypt, and he burns the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.”

Jeremia wird nach Ägypten verschleppt

Es geschah aber, nachdem Jeremias zum Volke alle Worte des Herrn, ihres Gottes, gesprochen, welche ihm der Herr, ihr Gott, an sie entboten, alle diese Worte,

sprach Azarias, der Sohn Osajas und Johanan, der Sohn Karees, samt allen frechen Männern also zu Jeremias: Du redest Lügen; denn der Herr, unser Gott, hat dich nicht gesandt, uns zu sagen: Ziehet nicht nach Ägypten, um daselbst zu wohnen;

sondern Baruch, der Sohn Nerias, reizt dich gegen uns auf, um uns in die Hand der Chaldäer zu überliefern und uns töten und nach Babylon wegführen zu lassen.

Und Johanan, der Sohn Karees, und alle Führer der Krieger und das ganze Volk hörten nicht auf die Stimme des Herrn, dass sie im Lande Juda blieben;

sondern Johanan, der Sohn Karees, und alle Führer der Krieger nahmen den gesamten Überrest Judas, der von allen Völkern, unter der sie ehedem zerstreut gewesen, zurückgekehrt war, um im Lande Juda zu wohnen,

Männer, Frauen und Kinder, die Königstöchter und alle Leute, welche Nabuzardan, der Anführer der Leibwache, bei Godolias, dem Sohne Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, zurückgelassen hatte, dazu Jeremias, den Propheten, und Bruch, den Sohn Nerias,

und zogen in das Land Ägypten, denn sie gehorchten der Stimme des Herrn nicht, und kamen bis Taphnis.

Da erging das Wort des Herrn an Jeremias in Taphnis also:

Hole große Steine herbei und verbirg sie im Gewölbe, das unter der Ziegelmauer beim Tore des Hauses Pharaos in Taphnis ist, vor den Augen der jüdischen Männer

und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Sehet, ich sende hin und hole Nabuchodonosor, den König von Babylon, meinen Knecht, und setze seinen Thron auf diese Steine, welche ich verborgen habe, und er wird seinen Thron darüber aufrichten.

Und wenn er kommt, wird er das Land Ägypten schlagen; dann wird sterben, was dem Tode geweiht ist; in die Gefangenschaft gehen, was zur Gefangenschaft bestimmt ist; durch das Schwert umkommen, was dem Schwerte gehört.

Und er wird die Tempel der Götter Ägyptens in Brand stecken und sie in Asche legen und jene gefangen wegführen; er wird sich in das Land Ägypten hüllen, wie sich ein Hirt in sein Gewand hüllt; und er wird unangefochten von da wieder wegziehen.

Und er wird die Säulen des Sonnenhauses im Lande Ägypten zerbrechen und die Tempel der Götter Ägyptens in Flammen aufgehen lassen.
