- Kapitel 39 -

(2 Kings 25:1–12; 2 Chronicles 36:15–21)

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his force have come to Jerusalem, and they lay siege against it;

in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth of the month, the city has been broken up;

and all the heads of the king of Babylon come in, and they sit at the middle gate, Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-Saris, Nergal-Sharezer, chief magus, and all the rest of the heads of the king of Babylon.

And it comes to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah and all the men of war have seen them, that they flee and go forth by night from the city, the way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls, and he goes forth the way of the plain.

And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after them, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and they take him, and bring him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaks with him—judgments.

And the king of Babylon slaughters the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah, before his eyes, indeed, the king of Babylon has slaughtered all the nobles of Judah.

And he has blinded the eyes of Zedekiah, and he binds him with bronze chains to bring him to Babylon.

And the house of the king, and the house of the people, the Chaldeans have burned with fire, and they have broken down the walls of Jerusalem.

And the remnant of the people who are left in the city, and those defecting who have defected to him, and the remnant of the people who are left, Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, has removed [to] Babylon.

And Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, has left in the land of Judah the poor people who have nothing, and he gives vineyards and fields to them in that day.

Jeremiah Delivered

And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gives a charge concerning Jeremiah, by the hand of Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, saying,

“Take him, and place your eyes on him, and do no evil thing to him, but as he speaks to you, so do with him.”

And Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, sends, and Nebushazban, chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-Sharezer, chief magus, and all the chiefs of the king of Babylon,

indeed, they send and take Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and give him to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to carry him home, and he dwells in the midst of the people.

And a word of YHWH has been to Jeremiah—in his being detained in the court of the prison—saying:

“Go, and you have spoken to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing in My words to this city for calamity, and not for good, and they have been before you in that day.

And I have delivered you in that day—a declaration of YHWH—and you are not given into the hand of the men of whose face you are afraid,

for I certainly deliver you, and you do not fall by sword, and your life has been to you for a spoil, for you have trusted in Me—a declaration of YHWH.”

Der Fall von Jerusalem

(2. Könige 25,1-12; 2. Chronik 36,15-21)

Im neunten Jahre Sedekias, des Königs von Juda, im zehnten Monate, kam Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, mit seiner ganzen Heeresmacht vor Jerusalem und sie belagerten es.

Im elften Jahre Sedekias aber, im vierten Monat, am fünften des Monats, ward die Stadt geöffnet.

Da drangen alle Fürsten des Königs von Babylon ein und hielten am Mitteltore: Neregel-Sereser, Semegarnabu, Sarsachim, Rabsares, Neregel-Sereser, Rebmag und alle übrigen Fürsten des Königs von Babylon.

Als aber Sedekias, der König von Juda, und alle Krieger sie sahen, flohen sie des Nachts aus der Stadt auf dem Wege nach dem Königsgarten durch das Tor, das zwischen den zwei Mauern war, und zogen hinaus auf den Weg in die Wüste.

Allein eine Abteilung der Chaldäer verfolgte sie und sie ergriffen Sedekias in der Ebene der Wüste von Jericho und führten ihn gefangen zu Nabuchodonosor, dem Könige von Babylon, nach Reblatha, im Lande Emath, und er sprach über ihn das Urteil.

Und der König von Babylon ließ die Söhne Sedekias in Reblatha vor seinen Augen töten, ebenso ließ der König von Babylon alle Edlen von Juda töten.

Dem Sedekias aber ließ er die Augen blenden und ihn in Ketten werfen, um ihn nach Babylon zu führen.

Und das Haus des Königs samt den Häusern des Volkes brannten die Chaldäer nieder und zerstörten die Mauer von Jerusalem.

Den Rest des Volkes aber, der in der Stadt übriggeblieben war, und die Überläufer, die zu ihm übergegangen waren, sowie das gemeine Volk, das übriggeblieben war, führte Nabuzardan, der Oberste der Leibwache, nach Babylon.

Von den armen Leuten jedoch, welche gar nichts besaßen, ließ Nabuzardan, der Oberste der Leibwache, einige im Lande Juda zurück und gab ihnen an jenem Tage Weinberge und Brunnen.

Jeremia geht in die Freiheit

Und Nabuchodonosor, der König von Babylon, hatte Nabuzardan, dem Obersten der Leibwache, betreffs Jeremias also geboten:

Hole ihn und trage Sorge für ihn und tue ihm nichts zu leide, sondern tue ihm, was er wünscht.

Da sandten Nabuzardan, der Anführer der Leibwache, und Nabusezban und Rabsares und Neregel-Sereser und Rebmag und alle Großen des Königs von Babylon,

sie sandten hin und ließen Jeremias aus dem Hofe des Gefängnisses holen und übergaben ihn dem Godolias, dem Sohne Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, dass er in sein Haus ginge und unter dem Volke wohnte.

An Jeremias aber war das Wort des Herrn ergangen, als er im Hofe des Gefängnisses in Haft war, also lautend:

Gehe hin und sprich zu Abdemelech, dem Äthiopier, also: So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich lasse meine Worte über diese Stadt kommen zum Unheil und nicht zum Glücke und sie sollen sich vor deinen Augen an jenem Tage erfüllen.

Dich aber will ich an jenem Tage erretten, spricht der Herr, und du sollst nicht in die Hand der Männer überliefert werden, die du fürchtest;

denn ich will dich erretten und befreien und du sollst nicht durch das Schwert fallen, sondern dein Leben soll erhalten bleiben, weil du auf mich dein Vertrauen gesetzt hast, spricht der Herr.
