- Kapitel 21 -

(2 Chronicles 33:1–9)

Manasseh [is] a son of twelve years in his reigning, and he has reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hephzi-Bah;

and he does evil in the eyes of YHWH, according to the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,

and he turns and builds the high places that his father Hezekiah destroyed, and raises altars for Ba‘al, and makes an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and bows himself to all the host of the heavens, and serves them.

And he has built altars in the house of YHWH, of which YHWH said, “In Jerusalem I put My Name.”

And he builds altars to all the host of the heavens in the two courts of the house of YHWH;

and he has caused his son to pass through fire, and observed clouds, and used enchantment, and dealt with a familiar spirit and wizards; he has multiplied to do evil in the eyes of YHWH—to provoke to anger.

And he sets the carved image of the Asherah that he made in the house of which YHWH said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I put My Name for all time;

and I do not add to cause the foot of Israel to move from the ground that I gave to their fathers, only, if they observe to do according to all that I commanded them, and to all the Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”

And they have not listened, and Manasseh causes them to err, to do evil above the nations that YHWH destroyed from the presence of the sons of Israel.

Manasseh’s Idolatries Rebuked

(2 Chronicles 33:10–20)

And YHWH speaks by the hand of his servants the prophets, saying,

“Because that Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations—he has done evil above all that the Amorites have done who [are] before him, and also causes Judah to sin by his idols—

therefore, thus said YHWH, God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing in calamity on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, his two ears tingle.

And I have stretched out the line of Samaria over Jerusalem, and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and wiped Jerusalem as one wipes the dish—he has wiped, and has turned [it] on its face.

And I have left the remnant of My inheritance, and given them into the hand of their enemies, and they have been for a prey and for a spoil to all their enemies,

because that they have done evil in My eyes, and are provoking Me to anger from the day that their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day.”

And also, Manasseh has shed very much innocent blood, until he has filled Jerusalem mouth to mouth, apart from his sin that he has caused Judah to sin, to do evil in the eyes of YHWH.

And the rest of the matters of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, are they not written on the scroll of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

And Manasseh lies with his fathers, and is buried in the garden of his house, in the garden of Uzza, and his son Amon reigns in his stead.

Amon Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 33:21–25)

Amon [is] a son of twenty-two years in his reigning, and he has reigned two years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Meshullemeth daughter of Haruz of Jotbah,

and he does evil in the eyes of YHWH, as his father Manasseh did,

and walks in all the way that his father walked in, and serves the idols that his father served, and bows himself to them,

and forsakes YHWH, God of his fathers, and has not walked in the way of YHWH.

And the servants of Amon conspire against him, and put the king to death in his own house,

and the people of the land strike all those conspiring against King Amon, and the people of the land cause his son Josiah to reign in his stead.

And the rest of the matters of Amon that he did, are they not written on the scroll of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

And [one] buries him in his burying-place in the garden of Uzza, and his son Josiah reigns in his stead.

Manasse regiert in Juda

(2. Chronik 33,1-9)

Zwölf Jahre war Manasses alt, als er zu herrschen begann, und fünfundfünfzig Jahre herrschte er zu Jerusalem; der Name seiner Mutter war Haphsiba.

Er tat, was vor den Augen des Herrn böse ist, nach dem Götzendienste der Völker, welche der Herr vor den Augen der Söhne Israels vertilgt hatte.

Er wendete sich dem Bösen zu und baute die Höhen wieder, welche sein Vater Ezechias zerstört hatte, und errichtete dem Baal Altäre und machte Haine, wie Achab, der König von Israel, getan hatte, und betete das ganze Heer des Himmels an und verehrte es.

Auch baute er Altäre im Hause des Herrn, von dem der Herr gesagt hatte: In Jerusalem will ich meinen Namen eine Stätte geben!

Und er errichtete dem ganzen Heere des Himmels Altäre in den beiden Vorhöfen des Tempels des Herrn.

Auch ließ er seinen Sohn durch das Feuer gehen, trieb Wahrsagerei, beobachtete Zeichen, bestellte Wahrsager und vermehrte die Zeichendeuter, so dass er tat, was vor dem Herrn böse ist, und ihn zum Zorne reizte.

Auch stellte er ein Götzenbild des Haines, den er eingerichtet hatte, in den Tempel des Herrn, von welchem der Herr zu David und zu seinem Sohne Salomon gesprochen hatte: In diesem Tempel und zu Jerusalem, das ich aus allen Stämmen Israels erwählt habe, will ich meinen Namen wohnen lassen auf ewig.

Und ich will den Fuß Israels nicht mehr weichen lassen aus dem Lande, das ich ihren Vätern gegeben habe; jedoch nur, wenn sie alles halten und tun, was ich ihnen geboten, und das ganze Gesetz, welches ihnen mein Diener Moses anbefohlen hat.

Sie aber hörten nicht darauf, sondern ließen sich von Manasses verführen, dass sie es ärger machten als die Völker, welche der Herr vor dem Angesichte der Söhne Israels vertilgt hatte.

(2. Chronik 33,10-20)

Da redete der Herr durch seine Diener, die Propheten, und sprach:

Weil Manasses, der König von Juda, diese schlimmen Greuel getan, die ärger sind als alles, was die Amorrhiter vor ihm getan haben und auch Juda zur Sünde verführt hat durch seine Unreinigkeiten,

darum spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels, also: Siehe, ich werde Unglück über Jerusalem und Juda herbeiführen, dass jedem, der es hört, beide Ohren klingen sollen.

Und ich will über Jerusalem die Messschnur Samarias spannen und das Gewicht des Hauses Achabs; und ich will Jerusalem auslöschen, wie man eine Schreibtafel auszulöschen pflegt, und will es abwischen und umkehren und mehr als einmal mit dem Griffel über seine Fläche hinfahren.

Und ich will den Überrest meines Erbteiles verstoßen und ihn in die Hände ihrer Feinde übergeben, dass sie allen ihren Feinden zur Verwüstung und zum Raube werden;

weil sie getan, was vor mir böse ist, und nicht aufgehört haben, mich zum Zorne zu reizen, von dem Tage an, wo ihre Väter aus Ägypten gezogen sind, bis auf diesen Tag.

Überdies vergoss Manasses auch sehr viel unschuldiges Blut, bis er Jerusalem bis oben damit anfüllte, außer seinen Sünden, zu denen er Juda verführte, dass es tat, was vor dem Herrn böse ist.

Was aber sonst von Manasse zu sagen ist und alles, was er getan, und seine Sünde, die er begangen, steht das nicht geschrieben in den Jahrbüchern der Könige von Israel?

Und Manasses entschlief zu seinen Vätern und wurde im Garten seines Hauses, im Garten Oza, begraben; sein Sohn Amon ward König an seiner Statt.

Amons Herrschaft und Tod

(2. Chronik 33,21-25)

Zweiundzwanzig Jahre war Amon alt, als er zu herrschen begann, und zwei Jahre herrschte er zu Jerusalem. Der Name seiner Mutter war Messalemeth, eine Tochter des Harus aus Jeteba.

Er tat, was böse ist in den Augen des Herrn, wie sein Vater Manasses getan hatte.

Und er wandelte ganz auf dem Wege, den sein Vater gewandelt war, und diente den Unreinigkeiten, denen sein Vater gedient hatte, und betete sie an;

und er verließ den Herrn, den Gott seiner Väter, und wandelte nicht auf dem Wege des Herrn.

Da bereiteten ihm seine Diener Nachstellungen und töteten den König in seinem Hause.

Das Volk des Landes aber erschlug alle, die sich wider den König Amon verschworen hatten, und sie setzten seinen Sohn Josias zum König über sich an seiner Statt.

Was aber sonst von Amon zu sagen ist, was er getan, steht das nicht geschrieben in den Jahrbüchern der Könige von Juda?

Und sie begruben ihn in seinem Grabe, im Garten. Oza und sein Sohn Josias ward König an seiner Statt.
