- Kapitel 12 -

(2 Chronicles 24:1–14)

In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash has reigned, and he has reigned forty years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Zibiah of Beer-Sheba,

and Jehoash does that which is right in the eyes of YHWH all his days in which Jehoiada the priest directed him,

only, the high places have not been removed—the people are still sacrificing and making incense in high places.

And Jehoash says to the priests, “All the money of the sanctified things that is brought into the house of YHWH, the money of him who is passing over, the money of each of the souls—his valuation, all the money that goes up on the heart of a man to bring into the house of YHWH,

the priests take to themselves, each from his acquaintance, and they strengthen the breach of the house in all [places] there where a breach is found.”

And it comes to pass, in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests have not strengthened the breach of the house,

and King Jehoash calls to Jehoiada the priest, and to the priests, and says to them, “Why are you not strengthening the breach of the house? And now, receive no money from your acquaintances, but give it for the breach of the house.”

And the priests do not consent to receive money from the people, nor to strengthen the breach of the house,

and Jehoiada the priest takes a chest, and pierces a hole in its lid, and puts it near the altar, on the right side, as one comes into the house of YHWH, and the priests keeping the threshold have put all the money there that is brought into the house of YHWH.

And it comes to pass, at their seeing that the money [is] abundant in the chest, that there goes up a scribe of the king, and of the high priest, and they bind [it] up, and count the money that is found [in] the house of YHWH,

and have given the weighed money into the hands of those doing the work, those inspecting the house of YHWH, and they bring it out to those working in the wood, and to builders who are working in the house of YHWH,

and to those [repairing] the wall, and to hewers of stone, and to buy wood and hewn stones to strengthen the breach of the house of YHWH, and for all that goes out on the house, to strengthen it.

Only, there is not made for the house of YHWH basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, any vessel of gold, and vessel of silver, out of the money that is brought into the house of YHWH;

for they give it to those doing the work, and they have strengthened the house of YHWH with it,

and they do not reckon with the men into whose hand they give the money to give to those doing the work, for they are dealing in faithfulness.

The money of a trespass-offering and the money of sin-offerings is not brought into the house of YHWH—it is for the priests.

The Death of Joash

(2 Chronicles 24:23–27)

Then Hazael king of Aram goes up and fights against Gath, and captures it, and Hazael sets his face to go up against Jerusalem;

and Jehoash king of Judah takes all the sanctified things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had sanctified, and his own sanctified things, and all the gold that is found in the treasures of the house of YHWH and of the house of the king, and sends [them] to Hazael king of Aram, and he goes up from off Jerusalem.

And the rest of the matters of Joash and all that he did, are they not written on the scroll of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

And his servants rise, and make a conspiracy, and strike Joash in the house of Millo, that is going down to Silla.

Indeed, Jozachar son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad son of Shemer, his servants, have struck him, and he dies, and they bury him with his fathers in the City of David, and his son Amaziah reigns in his stead.

Joasch repariert den Tempel

(2. Chronik 24,1-14)

Im siebenten Jahre Jehus ward Joas König und vierzig Jahre herrschte er in Jerusalem. Der Name seiner Mutter war Sebia aus Bersabee.

Joas tat, was vor dem Herrn recht war, alle Tage, so lange ihn Jojada, der Priester, lehrte.

Die Höhe indes schaffte er nicht ab, denn das Volk opferte noch und zündete noch Räucherwerk auf den Höhe an.

Und Joas sprach zu den Priestern: Alles Geld, das als Weihegeschenk von den Besuchern in den Tempel des Herrn gebracht wird, das Geld, welches zur Auslösung jeder Seele dargebracht wird und welches sie freiwillig und aus Antrieb des Herzens zum Tempel des Herrn bringen,

das sollen die Priester ihrer Ordnung nach in Empfang nehmen und sollen damit das, was am Hause baufällig ist, ausbessern, wenn sie sehen, dass etwas der Herstellung bedarf.

Bis zum dreiundzwanzigsten Jahre des Königs Joas aber besserten die Priester das, was am Tempel baufällig war, nicht aus.

Da berief der König Joas den Hohenpriester Jojada und die Priester und sprach zu ihnen: Warum bessert ihr nicht das aus, was am Tempel baufällig ist? So nehmet denn das Geld nicht mehr eurer Ordnung nach an, sondern gebet es zur Ausbesserung des Tempels heraus.

So ward fortan den Priestern verboten, Geld von dem Volke zu nehmen, um das, was im Hause baufällig war, auszubessern.

Darauf nahm der Hohepriester Jojada eine Geldlade, machte oben eine Öffnung hinein und stellte sie neben den Altar zur Rechten, wenn man in das Haus des Herrn geht; und die Priester, welche die Türe hüteten, warfen alles Geld, das zum Tempel des Herrn gebracht wurde, hinein.

Wenn sie dann sahen, dass zu viel Geld in der Geldlade war, so kam der Schreiber des Königs und der Hohepriester herauf und sie schütteten es aus und zählten das Geld, welches sich im Hause des Herrn fand,

und sie gaben es nach Zahl und Maß in die Hand derer, welche über die Bauleute im Hause des Herrn gesetzt waren; diese zahlten es den Zimmerleuten und Steinhauern aus, welche im Hause des Herrn arbeiteten

und das, was baufällig war, ausbesserten, und gaben es den Steinhauern, sowie um Holz und Steine zu kaufen, welche behauen wurden, so dass die Wiederherstellung des Hauses des Herrn in allem vollendet wurde, wofür zur Erhaltung des Hauses Ausgaben nötig waren.

Doch wurden von diesem Gelde keine Krüge für den Tempel des Herrn noch Gabeln, Rauchfässer, Trompeten oder irgend welche goldenen und silbernen Gefäße angefertigt, von dem Gelde, welches in den Tempel des Herrn gebracht wurde,

denn man gab es denen, welche die Arbeit leiteten, damit der Tempel des Herrn wiederhergestellt würde.

Und mit den Männern, welche das Geld empfingen, um es an die Werkmeister zu verteilen, hielt man keine Abrechnung, sondern sie verwalteten es auf Treu und Glauben.

Das Geld von den Schuldopfern aber und das Geld von den Sündopfern brachten sie nicht in den Tempel des Herrn, weil es den Priestern gehörte.

Hasael bedroht Jerusalem

(2. Chronik 24,23-27)

Zu der Zeit zog Hazael, der König von Syrien, herauf und kämpfte gegen Geth. Und er nahm es ein und wandte sein Angesicht gegen Jerusalem, um gegen dasselbe zu ziehen.

Darum nahm Joas, der König von Juda, alle Weihgeschenke, welche Josaphat, Joram und Ochozias, seine Väter, die Könige von Juda, dargebracht hatten, und was er selbst geopfert hatte, und alles Geld, das in den Schätzen des Tempels des Herrn und im Plaste des Königs zu finden war, und sandte es Hazael, dem Könige von Syrien, zu; da zog dieser von Jerusalem ab.

Tod von Joas

Was aber sonst von Joas zu sagen ist und alles, was er getan, ist das nicht geschrieben in den Jahrbüchern der Könige von Juda?

Seine Diener aber erhoben sich und verschworen sich untereinander und erschlugen Joas im Hause Mello bei dem Abstiege von Sella.

Josachar nämlich, der Sohn der Semaath, und Jozabad, der Sohn Somers, seine Diener, erschlugen ihn und er starb: und man begrub ihn bei seinen Vätern in der Davidsstadt und Amasias, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.
