The Second Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

- Kapitel 2 -

And I decided this to myself, not to come again to you in sorrow,

for if I make you sorry, then who is he who is making me glad, except he who is made sorry by me?

And I wrote to you this same thing, that having come, I may not have sorrow from them of whom it was necessary [for] me to have joy, having confidence in you all, that my joy is of you all,

for out of much tribulation and pressure of heart I wrote to you through many tears, not that you might be made sorry, but that you might know the love that I have more abundantly toward you.

And if anyone has caused sorrow, he has not caused sorrow to me, but in part, that I may not burden you all;

sufficient to such a one is this punishment, that [is] by the greater part,

so that, on the contrary, [it is] rather for you to forgive and to comfort, lest by over abundant sorrow such a one may be swallowed up;

for this reason, I call on you to confirm love to him,

for this also I wrote, that I might know your proof, whether you are obedient in regard to all things.

And to whom you forgive anything—I also; for I also, if I have forgiven anything, to whom I have forgiven [it], because of you—in the person of Christ—[I forgive it,]

that we may not be over-reached by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

Triumph in Christ

And having come to Troas for the good news of the Christ, and a door having been opened to me in the LORD,

I have not had rest to my spirit, on my not finding my brother Titus, but having taken leave of them, I went forth to Macedonia;

and to God [is] thanks, who at all times is leading us in triumph in the Christ, and the fragrance of His knowledge He is revealing through us in every place;

we are a refreshing fragrance to God because of Christ, in those being saved, and in those being lost;

to one, indeed, a fragrance of death to death, and to the other, a fragrance of life to life; and who is sufficient for these things?

For we are not as the many, adulterating the word of God, but as of sincerity—but as of God; in the presence of God, in Christ we speak.

Ich habe aber eben dies bei mir beschlossen, nicht wieder mit Betrübnis zu euch zu kommen.

Denn wenn ich euch betrübe, wer ist es da, der mich erfreue, als eben der, welcher durch mich betrübt wird?

Vergib dem Übeltäter

Eben darum habe ich dieses geschrieben, damit ich nicht, wenn ich komme, Betrübnis über Betrübnis von Seiten derer habe, an welchen ich Freude haben sollte; denn ich habe zu euch allen das Vertrauen, dass meine Freude euer aller Freude ist.

Denn aus vieler Trübsal und Herzensangst heraus habe ich euch unter vielen Tränen geschrieben, nicht damit ihr betrübt würdet, sondern damit ihr erkennet, welche Liebe ich vorzüglich gegen euch hege.

Wenn aber jemand Betrübnis verursacht hat, so hat er mich nicht allein, sondern zum Teile, um ihn nicht zu belasten, wenigstens euch alle betrübt.

Es genügt einem solchen diese Züchtigung, die von der Mehrheit zu Teil geworden,

so möget ihr ihm nun im Gegenteile vielmehr verzeihen und ihn trösten, damit er, der in dieser Lage ist, nicht etwa in allzu große Traurigkeit versinke.

Darum ermahne ich euch, dass ihr gegen ihn Liebe beweiset.

Denn deswegen habe ich euch geschrieben, um euch zu prüfen, ob ihr in allem gehorsam seid.

Wenn ihr aber etwas verziehen habt, dem habe auch ich verziehen; denn was ich vergeben habe, wenn ich etwas vergeben habe, habe ich vergeben um euretwillen an Christi Statt,

damit wir nicht vom Satan überlistet werden; denn seine Anschläge sind uns nicht unbekannt.

Triumph in Christus

Als ich aber um der Verkündigung des Evangeliums willen nach Troas kam und mir eine Türe im Herrn aufgetan war,

hatte ich keine Ruhe in meinem Geiste, weil ich Titus, meinen Bruder, nicht antraf; sondern ich nahm von ihnen Abschied und zog nach Mazedonien.

Gott aber sei Dank, der allezeit macht, dass wir den Sieg erlangen in Christus Jesus, und dass der Wohlgeruch seiner Erkenntnis sich durch uns verbreitet aller Orten;

denn wir sind für Gott ein Wohlgeruch Christi unter denen, die gerettet werden, und unter denen, die zu Grunde gehen:

den einen ein Geruch des Todes zum Tode, den andern ein Geruch des Lebens zum Leben. Und wer ist hierzu so tauglich?

Denn wir sind nicht, wie so viele, Fälscher des Wortes Gottes, sondern aus lauterem Triebe, sondern so wie aus Gott reden wir vor Gott, in Christus.
