- Kapitel 28 -

(2 Kings 16:1–9)

Ahaz [is] a son of twenty years in his reigning, and he has reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and he has not done that which is right in the eyes of YHWH, as his father David,

and walks in the ways of the kings of Israel, and has also made molten images for Ba‘alim,

and has made incense himself in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and burns his sons with fire according to the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,

and sacrifices and makes incense in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.

Aram Defeats Judah

(Isaiah 1:1–9)

And his God YHWH gives him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they strike him, and take captive a great captivity from him, and bring [them] to Damascus, and he has also been given into the hand of the king of Israel, and he strikes him [with] a great striking.

And Pekah son of Remaliah slays one hundred and twenty thousand in Judah in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking YHWH, God of their fathers.

And Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slays Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam leader of the house, and Elkanah second to the king.

And the sons of Israel take captive of their brothers: two hundred thousand wives, sons, and daughters; and they have also seized much spoil from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria.

And there has been a prophet of YHWH there (Oded [is] his name), and he goes out before the host that has come to Samaria, and says to them, “Behold, in the fury of YHWH, God of your fathers, against Judah, He has given them into your hand, and you slay among them in rage—it has come to the heavens;

and now you are saying to subdue sons of Judah and Jerusalem for menservants and for maidservants for yourselves; but are there not causes of guilt with you before your God YHWH?

And now, hear me, and send back the captives whom you have taken captive of your brothers, for the heat of the anger of YHWH [is] on you.”

And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,

and say to them, “You do not bring in the captives here, for guilt against YHWH [is already] on us, you are saying to add to our sin and to our guilt. For abundant [is] the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.”

And the armed men leave the captives and the prey before the heads and all the assembly;

and the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and they have clothed all their naked ones from the spoil, indeed, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on donkeys, even every feeble one, and bring them to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brothers, and return to Samaria.

The Idolatry of Ahaz

(2 Kings 16:10–20)

At that time King Ahaz has sent to the king of Asshur to give help to him;

and again the Edomites have come, and strike in Judah, and take captive a captivity.

And the Philistines have rushed against the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and capture Beth-Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho and its villages, and Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages, and dwell there,

for YHWH has humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against YHWH.

And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur comes to him, and does distress him, and has not strengthened him,

though Ahaz has taken a portion [out] of the house of YHWH, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gives to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him.

And in the time of his distress—he adds to trespass against YHWH (this King Ahaz),

and he sacrifices to the gods of Damascus [which were] those striking him, and says, “Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, I sacrifice to them, and they help me,” and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel.

And Ahaz gathers the vessels of the house of God, and cuts in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shuts the doors of the house of YHWH, and makes altars for himself in every corner in Jerusalem.

And in each and every city of Judah he has made high places to make incense to other gods, and provokes YHWH, God of his fathers.

And the rest of his matters, and all his ways, the first and the last, behold, they are written on the scroll of the kings of Judah and Israel.

And Ahaz lies with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him to the graves of the kings of Israel, and his son Hezekiah reigns in his stead.

Ahas regiert in Juda

(2. Könige 16,1-9)

Zwanzig Jahre war Achaz alt, als er König wurde, und sechzehn Jahre herrschte er in Jerusalem; er tat nicht, was recht war in den Augen des Herrn, wie sein Vater David,

sondern wandelte auf den Wegen der Könige von Israel und ließ überdies Bildsäulen der Baale gießen.

Er opferte Räucherwerk im Tale Benennom und weihte seine Kinder im Feuer nach dem Gebrauche der Völker, welche der Herr bei der Ankunft der Söhne Israels tötete,

und er opferte und zündete Räucherwerk auf den Höhen und auf den Hügeln und unter jedem Baume an.

Syrien und Israel besiegen Juda

(Jesaja 1,1-9)

Da gab ihn der Herr, sein Gott, in die Hand des Königs von Syrien; dieser schlug ihn und schleppte viele Leute aus seinem Reiche weg und brachte sie nach Damaskus. Auch der Hand des Königs von Israel ward er überliefert und erlitt eine große Niederlage.

Phakee nämlich, der Sohn Romelias, tötete von Juda einhundertundzwanzigtausend an einem Tage, lauter Krieger, weil sie den Herrn, den Gott ihrer Väter, verlassen hatten.

Zu derselben Zeit tötete Zechri, ein Held aus Ephraim, den Maasias, einen Sohn des Königs, und Ezrika, den Fürsten seines Hauses, und Elkana, den zweiten nach dem Könige.

Und die Söhne Israels führten von ihren Brüdern zweimalhunderttausend Frauen, Knaben und Mädchen gefangen fort und machten ungeheure Beute und brachten diese nach Samaria.

Israel gibt die Gefangenen zurück

Zur selben Zeit war dort ein Prophet des Herrn, Namens Obed; dieser ging hinaus, dem Heere entgegen, das nach Samaria kam, und sprach zu ihnen: Sehet, der Herr, der Gott eurer Väter, ist über Juda erzürnt und hat sie in eure Hand gegeben und ihr habt sie mit solcher Wut gemordet, dass eure Grausamkeit bis zum Himmel reichte!

Nun wollt ihr auch die Kinder Judas und Jerusalems euch als Knechte und Mägde unterwerfen, aber dies wird keineswegs geschehen; denn dadurch habt ihr gegen den Herrn, euren Gott, gesündigt.

Höret vielmehr meinen Rat und führet die Gefangenen zurück, die ihr von euren Brüdern hergeführt habt; denn ein großes Zorngericht des Herrn bedroht euch.

Da traten einige Männer von den Fürsten der Söhne Ephraims, Azarias, der Sohn Johanans, Barachias, der Sohn Mosollamoths, Ezechias, der Sohn Sellums, und Amasa, der Sohn Adalis, denen, die aus dem Kampfe kamen, entgegen

und sprachen zu ihnen: Ihr dürft die Gefangenen nicht hierherbringen, dass wir nicht wider den Herrn sündigen. Warum wollt ihr unsere Sünden noch mehren und zu den alten Missetaten neue häufen? Denn es ist eine große Versündigung und ein grimmiges Zorngericht des Herrn bedroht Israel.

Da gaben die Krieger die Beute und alles, was sie gefangen hatten, vor den Fürsten und der ganzen Gemeinde frei.

Und die Männer, die wir oben genannt haben, traten herbei und nahmen die Gefangenen und bekleideten alle, die nackt waren, aus der Beute; und als sie dieselben mit Kleidern und Schuhen versehen hatten, erquickten sie sich auch mit Speise und Trank und salbten sie wegen ihrer Müdigkeit und pflegten sie; und die, welche nicht gehen konnten und schwach waren, setzten sie auf Tiere und führten sie nach Jericho, der Palmenstadt, zu ihren Brüdern und kehrten sodann nach Samaria zurück.

Assyrien weigert sich, Juda zu helfen

(2. Könige 16,10-20)

Zu jener Zeit sandte der König Achaz zu dem König von Assyrien und begehrte Hilfe.

Dazu kamen die Edomiter und schlugen viele aus Juda und machten große Beute.

Auch ergossen sich die Philister über die Städte des flachen Landes und den Süden von Juda und nahmen Bethsames, Ajalon, Gaderoth, Socho, Thamna und Gamzo mit ihren Dörfern ein und ließen sich darin nieder.

Denn der Herr demütigte Juda um Achaz, des Königs von Juda, willen, weil dieser es von Hilfe entblößt und den Herrn verachtet hatte.

Und er führte wider ihn Thelgathphalnasar, den König von Assyrien, herbei, der ihn auch bedrängte und ausplünderte, ohne dass jemand Widerstand leistete.

Da beraubte Achaz das Haus des Herrn und das Haus der Könige und der Fürsten und gab dem Könige von Assyrien Geschenke, aber es nützte ihm dennoch nichts.

Abtrünnigkeit und Tod von Ahas

Überdies verachtete er zur Zeit seiner Bedrängnis den Herrn noch mehr, den er selbst, der König Achaz,

brachte den Göttern von Damaskus, die ihn geschlagen hatten, Opfer und sprach: Die Götter der Könige Syriens leisten ihnen Hilfe, diese will ich durch Opfer versöhnen und sie werden mir beistehen; doch wurden sie im Gegenteil für ihn und für ganz Israel zum Verderben.

Achaz nahm also alle Gerätschaften des Hauses Gottes und zerbrach sie, alsdann schloss er die Türen des Tempels Gottes und machte sich Altäre an allen Ecken von Jerusalem.

Auch in allen Städten Judas baute er Altäre, um Weihrauch anzuzünden, und forderte den Herrn, den Gott seiner Väter, zum Zorne heraus.

Seine übrige Geschichte aber und alle seine Taten, die früheren wie die späteren, sind im Buche der Könige von Juda und Israel beschrieben.

Und Achaz entschlief zu seinen Vätern und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Jerusalem, denn sie nahmen ihn nicht in die Grabstätte der Könige von Israel auf. Sein Sohn Ezechias war König an seiner Statt.
