- Kapitel 3 -

(Romans 3:21–31)

Moreouer, my brethren, reioyce in the Lord. It grieueth mee not to write the same things to you, and for you it is a sure thing.

Beware of dogges: beware of euil workers: beware of the concision.

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirite, and reioyce in Christ Iesus, and haue no confidence in the flesh:

Though I might also haue confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, much more I,

Circumcised the eight day, of the kinred of Israel, of the tribe of Beniamin, an Ebrewe of the Ebrewes, by the Lawe a Pharise.

Concerning zeale, I persecuted ye Church: touching the righteousnesse which is in the Law, I was vnrebukeable.

But the thinges that were vantage vnto me, the same I counted losse for Christes sake.

Yea, doubtlesse I thinke all thinges but losse for the excellent knowledge sake of Christ Iesus my Lord, for whome I haue counted all things losse, and doe iudge them to bee dongue, that I might winne Christ,

And might bee founde in him, that is, not hauing mine owne righteousnesse, which is of the Lawe, but that which is through the faith of Christ, euen the righteousnesse which is of God through faith,

That I may know him, and the vertue of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his afflictions, and be made conformable vnto his death,

If by any meanes I might attaine vnto the resurrection of the dead:

Pressing on toward the Goal

Not as though I had alreadie attained to it, either were alreadie perfect: but I follow, if that I may comprehend that for whose sake also I am comprehended of Christ Iesus.

Brethren, I count not my selfe, that I haue attained to it, but one thing I doe: I forget that which is behinde, and endeuour my selfe vnto that which is before,

And follow hard toward the marke, for the prise of the hie calling of God in Christ Iesus.

Let vs therefore as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if yee be otherwise minded, God shall reueile euen the same vnto you.

Neuerthelesse, in that whereunto wee are come, let vs proceede by one rule, that wee may minde one thing.

Citizenship in Heaven

Brethren, bee followers of mee, and looke on them, which walke so, as yee haue vs for an ensample.

For many walke, of whom I haue told you often, and nowe tell you weeping, that they are the enemies of the Crosse of Christ:

Whose ende is damnation, whose God is their bellie, and whose glorie is to their shame, which minde earthly things.

But our conuersation is in heauen, from whence also we looke for the Sauiour, euen the Lord Iesus Christ,

Who shall change our vile bodie, that it may be fashioned like vnto his glorious body, according to the working, whereby hee is able euen to subdue all things vnto him selfe.

Im Übrigen, meine Brüder! freuet euch im Herrn. Das nämliche euch zu schreiben, ist mir nicht lästig, euch aber notwendig.

Hütet euch vor den Hunden, hütet euch vor den bösen Arbeitern, hütet euch vor der Zerschneidung!

Denn wir sind die Beschneidung, die wir im Geiste Gott dienen, und uns in Christus Jesus rühmen, und nicht auf das Fleisch unser Vertrauen setzen,

obwohl ich meinerseits auch auf das Fleisch Vertrauen setzen könnte. Wenn irgendein anderer meint, auf das Fleisch vertrauen zu können, so ich noch mehr.

Ich bin beschnitten am achten Tage, bin aus dem Geschlechte Israel, aus dem Stamme Benjamin, ein Hebräer von Hebräern, dem Gesetze nach ein Pharisäer,

dem Eifer nach ein Verfolger der Kirche Gottes, und der auf das Gesetz sich gründenden Gerechtigkeit nach von untadelhaftem Wandel.

Doch was mir Gewinn war, das alles habe ich um Christi willen für Schaden erachtet.

Ja, ich halte alles für Schaden gegen die alles übertreffende Erkenntnis Jesu Christi, meines Herrn, um dessentwillen ich dieses allen verlustig gegangen bin, und es für Kot erachte, damit ich Christus gewinne,

und in ihm erfunden werde, nicht mit meiner Gerechtigkeit, die aus dem Gesetze kommt, sondern mit jener, welche aus dem Glauben an Christus Jesus stammt der Gerechtigkeit aus Gott auf Grund des Glaubens;

um ihn zu erkennen und die Kraft seiner Auferstehung und die Gemeinschaft seiner Leiden, indem ich seinem Tode gleichgestaltet werde,

ob ich etwa zur Auferstehung von den Toten gelangen möge.

Dem Ziel entgegen drängen

Nicht, dass ich es schon erlangt hätte oder schon vollkommen geworden wäre; ich strebe aber darnach, ob ich es etwa ergreifen möchte, weil ich auch von Christus Jesus ergriffen bin.

Brüder! ich halte nicht von mir selbst, dass ich es ergriffen habe; eines aber tue ich: Das, was hinter mir liegt, vergessend, nach dem aber, was vor mir ist, mich ausstreckend,

eile ich dem vorgesteckten Ziele zu, dem Siegespreise der von oben erhaltenen Berufung Gottes in Christus Jesus.

So viele nun vollkommen sind, lasset uns diese Gesinnung haben; und wenn ihr in irgendetwas anderen Sinnes seid, so wird euch Gott auch dies offenbaren.

Indes, wozu wir gelangt sind, in derselben Richtung wollen wir auch, damit wir eines Sinnes seien, verharren.

Unser Bürgerrecht im Himmel

Werdet meine Nachfolger, Brüder! und schauet auf die, welche also wandeln, wie ihr uns zum Vorbilde habt.

Denn viele wandeln, wie ich euch von ihnen oft gesagt habe, (jetzt aber unter Tränen sage), als die Feinde des Kreuzes Christi,

deren Ende das Verderben, deren Gott der Bauch ist, und deren Ruhm in ihrer Schande besteht, die nach dem Irdischen trachten.

Unser Wandel aber ist im Himmel, von wo wir auch den Heiland erwarten, unsern Herrn Jesus Christus,

welcher den Leib unserer Niedrigkeit umgestalten wird, dass er gleichgestaltet werde dem Leibe seiner Herrlichkeit, vermöge der Kraft, durch welche er sich auch alles unterwerfen kann.
