- Kapitel 4 -

(Numbers 3:27–32; 1 Chronicles 23:12–20)

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, and to Aaron, saying,

Take the summe of the sonnes of Kohath from among the sonnes of Leui, after their families, and houses of their fathers,

From thirtie yeere olde and aboue, euen vntill fiftie yeere olde, all that enter into the assemblie to do the worke in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

This shall be the office of the sonnes of Kohath in the Tabernacle of the Congregation about the Holiest of all.

When the hoste remoueth, then Aaron and his sonnes shall come and take downe the couering vaile, and shall couer the Arke of the Testimonie therewith.

And they shall put thereon a couering of badgers skinnes, and shall spread vpon it a cloth altogether of blewe silke, and put to the barres thereof:

And vpon ye table of shew bread they shall spread a cloth of blewe silke, and put thereon the dishes, and the incense cups, and goblets, and couerings to couer it with, and the bread shall be thereon continually:

And they shall spread vpon them a couering of skarlet, and couer the same with a couering of badgers skinnes, and put to the barres thereof.

Then they shall take a cloth of blewe silke, and couer the candlesticke of light with his lampes and his snuffers, and his snuffedishes, and al the oyle vessels thereof, which they occupie about it.

So they shall put it, and all the instruments thereof in a couering of badgers skinnes, and put it vpon the barres.

Also vpon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blewe silke, and couer it with a couering of badgers skinnes, and put to the barres thereof.

And they shall take all the instruments of the ministerie wherewith they minister in the Sanctuarie, and put them in a cloth of blew silke, and couer the with a couering of badgers skinnes, and put them on the barres.

Also they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth vpon it,

And shall put vpon it all the instruments thereof, which they occupie about it: the censers, the fleshhookes and the besomes, and the basens, euen al the instruments of the altar and they shall spread vpon it a couering of badgers skinnes, and put to the barres of it.

And when Aaron and his sonnes haue made an ende of couering the Sanctuarie, and al the instruments of the Sanctuarie, at the remouing of the host, afterward the sonnes of Kohath shall come to beare it, but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they dye. This is the charge of the sonnes of Kohath in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

And to the office of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the Priest pertaineth the oyle for the light, and the sweete incense and the dayly meat offring, and the anointing oyle, with the ouersight of all the Tabernacle, and of all that therein is, both in the Sanctuarie and in all the instruments thereof.

And the Lord spake vnto Moses and to Aaron, saying,

Ye shall not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Leuites:

But thus do vnto them, that they may liue and not die, when they come neere to the most holy things: let Aaron and his sonnes come and appoynt them, euery one to his office, and to his charge.

But let them not goe in, to see when the Sanctuarie is folden vp, lest they die.

The Duties of the Gershonites

(Numbers 3:21–26; 1 Chronicles 23:7–11)

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

Take also ye summe of the sonnes of Gershon, euery one by the houses of their fathers throughout their families:

From thirtie yere old and aboue, vntil fiftie yere old shalt thou nomber them, al that enter into the assemblie for to do seruice in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

This shall be the seruice of the families of the Gershonites, to serue and to beare.

They shall beare the curtaines of the Tabernacle, and the Tabernacle of the Congregation, his couering, and the couering of badgers skinnes, that is on hie vpon it, and the vayle of the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation:

The curtaines also of the court, and the vaile of the entring in of the gate of the court, which is neere the Tabernacle and neere the altar round about, with their cordes, and all the instruments for their seruice, and all that is made for them: so shall they serue.

At the commandement of Aaron and his sonnes shall all the seruice of the sonnes of ye Gershonites bee done, in all their charges and in all their seruice, and ye shall appoynt them to keepe all their charges.

This is the seruice of the families of the sonnes of the Gershonites in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and their watch shall be vnder the hande of Ithamar the sonne of Aaron the Priest.

The Duties of the Merarites

(Numbers 3:33–37; 1 Chronicles 23:21–23)

Thou shalt nomber the sonnes of Merari by their families, and by the houses of their fathers:

From thirty yere olde and aboue, euen vnto fiftie yere olde shalt thou nomber the, all that enter into the assemblie, to doe the seruice of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

And this is their office and charge according to all their seruice in the Tabernacle of the Congregation: the boardes of the Tabernacle with the barres thereof, and his pillars, and his sockets,

And the pillars rounde about the court, with their sockets and their pinnes, and their cords, with all their instruments, euen for all their seruice: and by name ye shall recken the instruments of their office and charge.

This is the seruice of the families of the sonnes of Merari, according to all their seruice in the Tabernacle of the Congregation vnder the hand of Ithamar the sonne of Aaron the Priest.

The Numbering of the Levite Clans

Then Moses and Aaron and the princes of the Congregation nombred the sonnes of the Kohathites, by their families and by the houses of their fathers,

From thirtie yeere olde and aboue, euen vnto fiftie yere olde, all that enter into the assemblie for the seruice of the Tabernacle of ye Congregation.

So the nombers of the throughout their families were two thousande, seuen hundreth and fiftie.

These are the nombers of the families of the Kohathites, al that serue in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, which Moses and Aaron did nomber according to the commandement of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

Also the nombers of the sonnes of Gershon throughout their families and houses of their fathers,

From thirtie yere olde and vpwarde, euen vnto fiftie yere olde: all that enter into the assemblie for the seruice of the Tabernacle of the Cogregation.

So the nombers of them by their families, and by the houses of their fathers were two thousand sixe hundreth and thirtie.

These are the nombers of the families of the sonnes of Gershon: of all that did seruice in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, whom Moses and Aaron did nomber according to the commandement of the Lord.

The nombers also of the families of the sonnes of Merari by their families, and by the houses of their fathers,

From thirtie yeere olde and vpwarde, euen vnto fiftie yeere olde: all that enter into the assemblie for the seruice of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

So the nombers of them by their families were three thousand, and two hundreth.

These are the summes of ye families of the sonnes of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron nombred according to the commandement of the Lord, by the hand of Moses.

So all the nombers of the Leuites, which Moses, and Aaron, and the princes of Israel nombred by their families and by the houses of their fathers,

From thirtie yere olde and vpward, euen to fiftie yeere olde, euery one that came to doe his duetie, office, seruice and charge in the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

So the nombers of them were eight thousand, fiue hundreth and foure score.

According to the commandement of the Lord by the hand of Moses did Aaron nomber them, euery one according to his seruice, and according to his charge. Thus were they of that tribe nombred, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Die Aufgaben der Söhne Kahaths

(3. Mose 3,27-32; 1. Chronik 23,12-20)

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und Aaron und sprach:

Nimm die Gesamtzahl der Söhne Kaaths aus der Mitte der Leviten nach ihren Häusern und Familien auf,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle, welche eintreten, um im Zelte des Bundes zu weilen und Dienst zu tun.

Dies ist der Dienst der Söhne Kaaths: In das Zelt des Bundes und das Allerheiligste

sollen Aaron und seine Söhne eintreten, wenn das Lager abgebrochen werden soll, und sollen den Vorhang nehmen, welcher vor dem Eingange hängt, und die Lade des Zeugnisses damit umhüllen,

und sollen noch eine Decke von bläulichen Fellen darüber tun, und ein Tuch ganz von blauem Purpur darüber breiten, und die Stangen einstecken.

Auch sollen sie den Schaubrottisch mit einem Tuche von blauem Purpur verhüllen, und dazu die Rauchfässer und Mörser, die Becher und Schalen zur Darbringung der Trankopfer legen; die Brote sollen beständig darauf bleiben.

Über dies sollen sie ein Tuch von Karmosin breiten, und es wieder mit einer Decke von bläulichen Fellen bedecken, und die Stangen einstecken.

Ferner sollen sie ein Tuch von blauem Purpur nehmen und damit den Leuchter samt seinen Lampen, und Zangen, und Lichtscheeren, und allen Ölgefäßen bedecken, die zur Besorgung der Lampen nötig sind;

und über dies alles sollen sie eine Decke von bläulichen Fellen legen und die Stangen einschieben.

Auch den goldenen Altar sollen sie mit einem Tuche von blauem Purpur verhüllen, darüber eine Decke von bläulichen Fellen bereiten, und die Stangen einstecken.

Alle Gerätschaften, die zum Dienste im Heiligtume gehören, sollen sie mit blauem Purpur verhüllen, eine Decke von bläulichen Fellen darüber breiten, und die Stangen einfügen.

Sodann sollen sie den Altar von Asche reinigen, und ein Tuch von rotem Purpur darüber breiten,

und alle Geräte, die man bei dem Dienste an demselben braucht, das ist die Kohlenpfannen, Gabeln, Spieße, Haken und Schaufeln dazutun. Und über alle Gefäße des Altares sollen sie eine Decke von bläulichen Fellen breiten und die Stangen einstecken.

Haben nun Aaron und seine Söhne das Heiligtum und alle seine Gerätschaften eingehüllt, wenn das Lager sich in Bewegung setzt, so sollen die Söhne Kaaths hineintreten, um alles Eingehüllte zu tragen; aber sie sollen die Gerätschaften des Heiligtums nicht anrühren, damit sie nicht sterben. Das ist es, was die Söhne Kaaths im Zelte des Bundes zu tragen haben.

Und Eleazar, der Sohn Aarons, des Priesters, soll über sie gesetzt sein, und ihm soll die Sorge für das Öl zur Besorgung der Lampen, die Mischung des Räucherwerkes, das Opfer, welches fort und fort dargebracht wird, für das Salböl, und für alles obliegen, was zum Dienste des Zeltes gehört, und für alle Gerätschaften, die im Heiligtume sind.

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und Aaron und sprach:

Lasset das Geschlecht Kaaths nicht unter den Leviten zu Grunde gehen,

sondern tuet dies für sie, damit sie leben und nicht sterben, wenn sie das Allerheiligste berühren. Aaron und seine Söhne sollen hineingehen, und jedem seine Verrichtungen bestimmen, und verteilen, was jeder tragen soll.

Andere sollen nicht aus Neugier zusehen, was im Heiligtume ist, bevor es verhüllt wird, sonst werden sie sterben.

Aufgaben der Söhne Gerschons

(3. Mose 3,21-26; 1. Chronik 23,7-11)

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:

Nimm auch die Gesamtzahl der Söhne Gersons nach ihren Häusern, und Familien, und Geschlechtern auf,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber bis zu fünfzig Jahren. Zähle alle, welche in das Zelt des Bundes eintreten und Dienst tun.

Dies ist die Dienstleistung des Geschlechtes der Gersoniten,

dass sie die Vorhänge des Zeltes tragen, das Dach des Bundes, die andere Decke, die alles verhüllende Decke von bläulichen Fellen, sowie den Vorhang, der am Eingange des Zeltes des Bundes hängt,

die Umhänge des Vorhofes, und den Vorhang am Eingange vor dem Zelte. Alles, was zum Altare gehört, die Seile und die Gerätschaften des Gottesdienstes

sollen die Söhne Gersons nach Aarons und seiner Söhne Befehl tragen; und ein jeder soll wissen, welche Last er auf sich zu nehmen hat.

Das ist der Dienst des Geschlechtes der Gersoniten im Zelte des Bundes, und zwar sollen sie unter Ithamar, dem Sohne Aarons, des Priesters, stehen.

Aufgaben der Söhne Meraris

(3. Mose 33,33-37; 1. Chronik 23,21-23)

Verzeichne auch die Söhne Meraris nach den Familien und Häusern ihrer Väter,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle, die eintreten, ihr Amt zu besorgen und den Dienst am Zeugnisse des Bundes zu verrichten.

Dies ist ihre Bürde: Sie sollen die Bretter und Stangen des Zeltes tragen, die Säulen und die Fußgestelle derselben.

ebenso die Säulen des Vorhofes ringsum mit ihren Fußgestellen und Pflöcken und Seilen. Alle Gefäße und Gerätschaften sollen sie vorgezählt erhalten und so tragen.

Das ist das Amt des Geschlechtes der Merariten und ihr Dienst im Zelte des Bundes; und sie sollen unter Ithamar, dem Sohne Aarons, des Priesters, stehen.

Volkszählung unter den Leviten

Moses also und Aaron und die Vorsteher der Gemeinde verzeichneten die Söhne Kaaths nach ihren Geschlechtern und den Häusern ihrer Väter,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle, die zum Dienste des Zeltes des Bundes eintreten;

und es fanden sich zweitausend siebenhundert fünfzig.

Das ist die Zahl der Geschlechter Kaaths, welche in das Zelt des Bundes eintreten; diese zählten Moses und Aaron nach dem Worte des Herrn durch Moses.

Auch die Söhne Gersons wurden nach ihren Geschlechtern und den Häusern ihrer Väter gezählt,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle, die eintreten, um im Zelte des Bundes Dienst zu tun;

und es fanden sich zweitausend sechshundert und dreißig.

Das ist das Geschlecht der Gersoniten, die Moses und Aaron nach dem Worte des Herrn zählten.

Auch die Söhne Meraris wurden nach ihren Geschlechtern und den Häusern ihrer Väter gezählt,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle, die eintreten, um in dem Zelte des Bundes Dienst zu tun;

und es fanden sich dreitausend zweihundert.

Das ist die Zahl der Söhne Meraris, die Moses und Aaron nach dem Befehle des Herrn durch Moses zählten.

Alle, welche unter den Leviten gezählt wurden, und welche Moses und Aaron, und die Fürsten Israels nach ihren Geschlechtern und den Häusern ihrer Väter namentlich zählen ließen,

von dreißig Jahren an und darüber bis zu fünfzig Jahren, alle welche hineingingen, den Dienst des Zeltes zu versehen und die Lasten zu tragen,

waren zusammen achttausend fünfhundert und achtzig.

Nach dem Befehle des Herrn zählte sie Moses, einen jeden nach seinem Amt und seiner Würde, wie der Herr ihm geboten hatte.
