- Kapitel 21 -

And the Lord said vnto Moses, Speake vnto the Priestes the sonnes of Aaron, and say vnto them, Let none be defiled by the dead among his people,

But by his kinseman that is neere vnto him: to wit, by his mother, or by his father, or by his sonne, or by his daughter, or by his brother,

Or by his sister a maid, that is neere vnto him, which hath not had a husband: for her he may lament.

He shall not lament for the Prince among his people, to pollute him selfe.

They shall not make balde partes vpon their head, nor shaue off the locks of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

They shalbe holy vnto their God, and not pollute the name of their God: for the sacrifices of the Lord made by fire, and the bread of their God they doe offer: therefore they shalbe holie.

They shall not take to wife an whore, or one polluted, neither shall they marrie a woman diuorced from her husband: for such one is holy vnto his God.

Thou shalt sanctifie him therefore, for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy vnto thee: for I the Lord, which sanctifie you, am holy.

If a Priestes daughter fall to play the whore, she polluteth her father: therefore shall she be burnt with fire.

Also ye hie Priest among his brethren, (vpon whose head the anointing oyle was powred, and hath consecrated his hand to put on the garments) shall not vncouer his head, nor rent his clothes,

Neither shall he goe to any dead bodie, nor make him selfe vncleane by his father or by his mother,

Neither shall he goe out of the Sanctuarie, nor pollute the holy place of his God: for the crowne of the anoynting oyle of his God is vpon him: I am the Lord.

Also he shall take a maide vnto his wife:

But a widowe, or a diuorced woman, or a polluted, or an harlot, these shall he not marrie, but shall take a maide of his owne people to wife:

Neyther shall he defile his seede among his people: for I am the Lord which sanctifie him.

Restrictions against Those with Blemishes

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

Speake vnto Aaron, and say, Whosoeuer of thy seede in their generations hath any blemishes, shall not prease to offer the bread of his God:

For whosoeuer hath any blemish, shall not come neere: as a man blinde or lame, or that hath a flat nose, or that hath any misshapen member,

Or a man that hath a broken foote, or a broken hande,

Or is crooke backt, or bleare eyed, or hath a blemish in his eye, or be skiruie, or skabbed, or haue his stones broken.

None of the seede of Aaron the Priest that hath a blemish, shall come neere to offer the sacrifices of the Lord made by fire, hauing a blemish: he shall not prease to offer the bread of his God.

The bread of his God, euen of the most holie, and of the holy shall he eate:

But he shall not goe in vnto the vaile, nor come neere the altar, because hee hath a blemish, least he pollute my Sanctuaries: for I am the Lord that sanctifie them.

Thus spake Moses vnto Aaron, and to his sonnes, and to all the children of Israel.

Vorschriften für das Verhalten von Priestern

Der Herr sprach ferner zu Moses: Rede zu den Priestern, den Söhnen Aarons, und sage ihnen: Ein Priester soll sich nicht an einer Leiche unter seinen Mitbürgern verunreinigen,

nur an seinen Blutsverwandten und nächsten Verwandten, das ist an seinem Vater und seiner Mutter, und seinem Sohn und seiner Tochter, auch seinem Bruder,

und seiner Schwester, die noch Jungfrau und keinem Manne vermählt ist;

aber auch nicht einmal an dem Fürsten seines Volkes soll er sich verunreinigen.

Sie sollen weder Haupt noch Bart abscheren, noch sich Einschnitte an ihrem Leibe machen.

Sie sollen ihrem Gott heilig sein und seinen Namen nicht entweihen; denn sie bringen das Feueropfer des Herrn und das Brot ihres Gottes dar, und darum sollen sie heilig sein.

Eine entehrte oder eine sich preisgegebene Dirne sollen sie nicht zum Weibe nehmen, noch eine von ihrem Manne Verstoßene, weil sie ihrem Gotte geweiht sind

und die Schaubrote darbringen. Darum sollen sie heilig sein, weil auch ich heilig bin, ich, der Herr, der sie heiligt.

Wenn die Tochter eines Priesters auf Unzucht ertappt wird, und sie so den Namen ihres Vaters entweiht, so soll sie mit Feuer verbrannt werden.

Der Hohepriester, das ist der oberste Priester unter seinen Brüdern, auf dessen Haupt das Salböl gegossen ward, und dessen Hände zum Priestertume geweiht sind, und der mit den heiligen Gewändern bekleidet wurde, soll sein Haupt nicht entblößen, seine Kleider nicht zerreißen,

und zu keinem Toten, welchem immer, gehen; sogar an seinem Vater und seiner Mutter soll er sich nicht verunreinigen.

Das Heiligtum soll er nicht verlassen, damit er das Heiligtum des Herrn nicht beflecke; denn das Öl der heiligen Salbung seines Gottes ist auf ihm. Ich bin der Herr.

Eine Jungfrau soll er zum Weibe nehmen;

eine Witwe aber, oder eine Verstoßene, oder eine Gefallene, oder eine Buhldirne soll er nicht nehmen, sondern eine Jungfrau aus seinem Volke,

damit er den Stamm seines Geschlechtes nicht durch eine gemeine Person seines Volkes herabwürdige; denn ich bin der Herr, der ihn heiligt.

Und der Herr redete zu Moses und sprach:

Sage zu Aaron: Wer von deinen Nachkommen jetzt und in zukünftigen Geschlechtern einen Leibesfehler hat, soll seinem Gott die Brote nicht darbringen

und zu seinem Dienste nicht hinzutreten: wer blind oder lahm ist, eine zu kleine, zu große, oder krumme Nase hat,

wer einen gebrochenen Fuß, oder eine gebrochene Hand hat,

wer bucklig oder triefäugig ist, wer im Auge weiße Flecken hat, oder mit anhaltendem Ausschlag oder der Krätze am Leibe behaftet ist, wer an einem Bruche leidet.

Keiner von den Nachkommen Aarons, des Priesters, der ein Gebrechen hat, nahe sich dem Herrn, Opfer oder Brote seinem Gott darzubringen;

doch von den Broten, welche im Heiligtum dargebracht werden, mag er essen,

nur dass er nicht hinter den Vorhang trete und dem Altare nicht nahe, weil er ein Leibesgebrechen hat und mein Heiligtum nicht verunreinigen soll. Ich bin der Herr, der sie heiligt.

Moses also redete zu Aaron, und zu seinen Söhnen, und zu ganz Israel, alles, was ihm geboten war.
