- Kapitel 13 -

Nowe before the feast of the Passeouer, when Iesus knewe that his houre was come, that he should depart out of this world vnto the Father, forasmuch as he loued his owne which were in the world, vnto the end he loued them.

And when supper was done (and that the deuill had now put in the heart of Iudas Iscariot, Simons sonne, to betray him)

Iesus knowing that the Father had giuen all things into his hands, and that he was come forth from God, and went to God,

He riseth from supper, and layeth aside his vpper garments, and tooke a towel, and girded himselfe.

After that, hee powred water into a basen, and began to wash the disciples feete, and to wipe them with the towell, wherewith he was girded.

Then came he to Simon Peter, who sayd to him, Lord, doest thou wash my feete?

Iesus answered and sayd vnto him, What I doe, thou knowest not nowe: but thou shalt knowe it hereafter.

Peter said vnto him, Thou shalt neuer wash my feete. Iesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou shalt haue no part with me.

Simon Peter sayd vnto him, Lord, not my feete onely, but also the hands and the head.

Iesus sayd to him, He that is washed, needeth not, saue to wash his feete, but is cleane euery whit: and ye are cleane, but not all.

For hee knewe who should betray him: therefore sayd he, Ye are not all cleane.

So after he had washed their feete, and had taken his garments, and was set downe againe, he sayd vnto them, Knowe ye what I haue done to you?

Ye call me Master, and Lord, and ye say well: for so am I.

If I then your Lord, and Master, haue washed your feete, ye also ought to wash one an others feete.

For I haue giuen you an example, that ye should doe, euen as I haue done to you.

Verely, verely I say vnto you, The seruant is not greater then his master, neither the ambassadour greater then he that sent him.

If ye know these things, blessed are ye, if ye doe them.

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

(Psalm 41:1–13)

I speake not of you all: I know whom I haue chosen: but it is that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lift vp his heele against me.

From henceforth tell I you before it come, that when it is come to passe, ye might beleeue that I am he.

Verely, verely I say vnto you, If I send any, he that receiueth him, receiueth me, and hee that receiueth me, receiueth him that sent me.

When Iesus had sayd these things, he was troubled in the Spirit, and testified, and said, Verely, verely I say vnto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.

Nowe there was one of his disciples, which leaned on Iesus bosome, whom Iesus loued.

To him beckened therefore Simon Peter, that he should aske who it was of whom he spake.

He then, as he leaned on Iesus breast, saide vnto him, Lord, who is it?

Iesus answered, He it is, to whome I shall giue a soppe, when I haue dipt it: and hee wet a soppe, and gaue it to Iudas Iscariot, Simons sonne.

And after the soppe, Satan entred into him. Then sayd Iesus vnto him, That thou doest, doe quickly.

But none of them that were at table, knew, for what cause he spake it vnto him.

For some of them thought because Iudas had the bag, that Iesus had sayd vnto him, Buy those things that we haue neede of against ye feast: or that he should giue some thing to the poore.

Assoone then as he had receiued the soppe, he went immediately out, and it was night.

Love One Another

(Romans 12:9–13; 1 John 3:11–24)

When hee was gone out, Iesus sayd, Nowe is the Sonne of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorifie him in himselfe, and shall straightway glorifie him.

Litle children, yet a litle while am I with you: ye shall seeke me, but as I sayde vnto the Iewes, Whither I goe, can ye not come: also to you say I nowe,

A newe commandement giue I vnto you, that ye loue one another: as I haue loued you, that ye also loue one another.

By this shall all men knowe that ye are my disciples, if ye haue loue one to another.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

(Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31; Luke 22:31–38)

Simon Peter said vnto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Iesus answered him, Whither I goe, thou canst not follow me nowe: but thou shalt follow me afterward.

Peter sayd vnto him, Lord, why can I not follow thee now? I will lay downe my life for thy sake.

Iesus answered him, Wilt thou lay downe thy life for my sake? Verely, verely I say vnto thee, The cocke shall not crowe, till thou haue denied me thrise.

Jesus wäscht den Jüngern die Füße

Vor dem Osterfeste, da Jesus wusste, dass seine Stunde gekommen sei, um aus dieser Welt zum Vater zu gehen nachdem er die Seinigen, die in der Welt waren, geliebt, liebte er sie bis an das Ende.

Und als das Abendmahl gehalten ward, da der Teufel dem Judas Iskariot, dem Sohne Simons, schon in´s Herz gegeben hatte, ihn zu verraten,

stand er, ob er gleich wusste, dass der Vater ihm alles in die Hände gegeben habe, und dass er von Gott ausgegangen sei, und zu Gott zurückkehre,

vom Mahle auf, legte seine Oberkleider ab, nahm ein leinenes Tuch, und umgürtete sich damit.

Dann goss er Wasser in ein Becken, und fing an, seinen Jüngern die Füße zu waschen, und sie mit dem leinenen Tuche, mit dem er umgürtet war, abzutrocknen.

Er kam also zu Simon Petrus. Petrus aber sprach zu ihm: Herr! du willst mir die Füße waschen?

Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Was ich tue, verstehst du jetzt nicht; du wirst es aber nachher verstehen.

Petrus sprach zu ihm: In Ewigkeit wirst du mir die Füße nicht waschen! Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich dich nicht wasche, so wirst du keinen Teil an mir haben.

Da sprach Simon Petrus zu ihm: Herr! nicht allein meine Füße, sondern auch die Hände und das Haupt.

Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wer gewaschen ist, bedarf nicht mehr, als dass er sich die Füße wasche, sondern er ist ganz rein. Auch ihr seid rein, aber nicht alle.

Er wusste nämlich, wer der sei, der ihn verraten würde; darum sagte er: Ihr seid nicht alle rein.

Nachdem er nun ihre Füße gewaschen, und seine Oberkleider angelegt hatte, setzte er sich wieder zu Tische, und sprach zu ihnen: Wisset ihr, was ich euch getan habe?

Ihr nennet mich Meister und Herr, und mit Recht sagt ihr es; denn ich bin es.

Wenn nun ich euch die Füße gewaschen habe, euer Herr und Meister, so müsset auch ihr, einer dem andern, die Füße waschen.

Denn ich habe euch ein Beispiel gegeben, damit auch ihr so tuet, wie ich euch getan habe.

Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ein Diener ist nicht größer als sein Herr, und ein Gesandter nicht größer als der, welcher ihn gesandt hat!

Wenn ihr dieses wisset, selig seid ihr, wenn ihr es tut!

Jesus identifiziert seinen Verräter

(Psalm 41,1-13)

Nicht von euch allen rede ich. Ich weiß, welche ich erwählet habe; aber damit die Schrift erfüllet werde: „Der mit mir das Brot ißt, wird wider mich seine Ferse erheben.“

Schon jetzt sage ich es euch, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr, wenn es geschehen ist, glaubet, dass ich es bin.

Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer jemanden aufnimmt, den ich senden werde, der nimmt mich auf; wer aber mich aufnimmt, der nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat!

Als Jesus dieses gesagt hatte, wurde er im Geiste bewegt, und bezeugte und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich verraten!

Da sahen die Jünger einander an, und waren ungewiss, von wem er redete.

Einer aber von seinen Jüngern lag zu Tische an der Brust Jesu, der, welchen Jesus liebte.

Diesem nun winkte Simon Petrus zu, und sprach zu ihm: Wer ist es, von dem du redest?

Da lehnte sich dieser an die Brust Jesu, und sprach zu ihm: Herr! wer ist es?

Jesus antwortete: Der ist es, dem ich das Brot, welches ich eintauche, reichen werde. Und er tauchte das Brot ein, und gab es dem Judas Iskariot, dem Sohne Simons.

Und nach dem Bissen fuhr der Satan in ihn. Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Was du tun willst, das tue bald!

Es verstand aber keiner von denen, welche zu Tische waren, warum er dieses sagte.

Denn einige meinten, weil Judas den Beutel hatte, habe Jesus ihm gesagt: Kaufe, was wir auf das Fest brauchen; oder er sollte den Armen etwas geben.

Als er nun den Bissen genommen hatte, ging er sogleich hinaus. Es war aber Nacht.

Das neue Gebot

(Römer 12,9-13; 1. Johannes 3,11-24)

Nachdem er nun hinausgegangen war, sprach Jesus: Jetzt ist der Menschensohn verherrlicht, und Gott ist verherrlicht in ihm!

Wenn Gott in ihm verherrlicht ist, so wird Gott ihn auch in sich selbst verherrlichen, ja alsbald wird er ihn verherrlichen.

Kindlein! Noch eine kurze Zeit bin ich bei euch. Ihr werdet mich suchen; aber wie ich den Juden gesagt habe: Wo ich hingehe, dahin könnet ihr nicht kommen; so sage ich jetzt auch euch.

Ein neues Gebot gebe ich euch, dass ihr einander liebet, wie ich euch geliebet habe, so sollt auch ihr einander lieben.

Daran werden alle erkennen, dass ihr meine Jünger seid, wenn ihr Liebe habet zueinander.

Jesus sagt Petrus' Verleugnung voraus

(Matthäus 26,31-35; Markus 14,27-31; Lukas 22,31-38)

Simon Petrus sprach zu ihm: Herr! wohin gehst du? Jesus antwortete: Wohin ich gehe, dahin kannst du mir jetzt nicht folgen; du wirst mir aber nochmals folgen.

Petrus sprach zu ihm: Warum kann ich dir jetzt nicht folgen? Ich will mein Leben für dich einsetzen.

Jesus antwortete ihm: Du willst dein Leben für mich einsetzen? Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Der Hahn wird nicht krähen, bis du mich dreimal verleugnet hast.
