- Kapitel 26 -

In the beginning of the reigne of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, came this worde from the Lord, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, Sande in the court of the Lordes House, and speake vnto all the cities of Iudah, which come to worshippe in the Lords House, all the wordes that I commaund thee to speake vnto them: keepe not a worde backe,

If so be they will hearken, and turne euery man from his euill way, that I may repent me of the plague, which I haue determined to bring vpon them, because of the wickednesse of their workes.

And thou shalt say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord, If ye will not heare me to walke in my Lawes, which I haue set before you,

And to heare ye wordes of my seruants the Prophets, whome I sent vnto you, both rising vp earely, and sending them, and will not obey them,

Then will I make this House like Shiloh, and will make this citie a curse to all the nations of the earth.

Jeremiah Threatened with Death

So the Priestes, and the Prophets, and all the people heard Ieremiah speaking these wordes in the House of the Lord.

Nowe when Ieremiah had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speake vnto all the people, then the Priestes, and the prophets, and all the people tooke him, and saide, Thou shalt die the death.

Why hast thou prophecied in the Name of the Lord, saying, This House shall be like Shiloh, and this citie shalbe desolate without an inhabitant? and all the people were gathered against Ieremiah in the House of the Lord.

And when the princes of Iudah heard of these things, they came vp from the Kings house into the House of the Lord, and sate downe in the entrie of the new gate of the Lords House.

Then spake the Priestes, and the prophets vnto the princes, and to all the people, saying, This man is worthie to die: for he hath prophecied against this citie, as ye haue heard with your eares.

Then spake Ieremiah vnto all the princes, and to al the people, saying, The Lord hath sent me to prophecie against this house and against this citie all the things that ye haue heard.

Therefore nowe amende your wayes and your workes, and heare the voyce of the Lord your God, that the Lord may repent him of the plague, that he hath pronounced against you.

As for me, beholde, I am in your hands: do with me as ye thinke good and right.

But knowe ye for certaine, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood vpon your selues, and vpon this citie, and vpon the inhabitants thereof: for of a trueth the Lord hath sent me vnto you, to speake all these words in your eares.

Jeremiah Spared from Death

Then saide the princes and all the people vnto the Priestes, and to the prophets, This man is not worthie to die: for he hath spoken vnto vs in the Name of the Lord our God.

Then rose vp certaine of the Elders of the lande, and spake to all the assemblie of the people, saying,

Michah the Morashite prophecied in the dayes of Hezekiah king of Iudah, and spake to al the people of Iudah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hostes, Zion shall be plowed like a fielde, and Ierusalem shalbe an heape, and the mountaine of the House shalbe as the hie places of the forest.

Did Hezekiah King of Iudah, and all Iudah put him to death? did he not feare ye Lord, and prayed before the Lord, and the Lord repented him of the plague, that he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great euill against our soules.

The Prophet Uriah

And there was also a man that prophecied in the Name of the Lord, one Vriiah the sonne of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-iarem, who prophecied against this citie, and against this lande, according to all the wordes of Ieremiah.

Nowe when Iehoiakim the King with all his men of power, and all the princes heard his wordes, the King sought to slay him. But when Vriiah heard it, he was afraide and fled, and went into Egypt.

Then Iehoiakim the King sent men into Egypt, euen Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, and certaine with him into Egypt.

And they fet Vriiah out of Egypt, and brought him vnto Iehoiakim the King, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead bodie into the graues of the children of the people.

But the hande of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan was with Ieremiah that they shoulde not giue him into the hande of the people to put him to death.

Jeremia vor dem Tod gerettet

Im Anfange der Herrschaft Joakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, erging dies Wort vom Herrn, also lautend:

So spricht der Herr: Tritt in den Vorhof des Hauses des Herrn und sprich zu allen Städten Judas, aus denen man kommt, um im Hause des Herrn anzubeten, alle Worte, die ich dir befohlen habe, zu ihnen zu reden. Nimm kein Wort davon hinweg!

Vielleicht hören sie und bekehren sich ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege, dass ich mich des Übels gereuen lasse, welches ich ihnen ihrer bösen Taten willen zuzufügen gedenke.

Sprich zu ihnen also: So spricht der Herr: Wenn ihr nicht auf mich hört, dass ihr in meinem Gesetze wandelt, welches ich euch gegeben habe,

dass ihr auf die Worte meiner Diener, der Propheten, hört, welche ich zu euch sende, vom frühen Morgen an aussendend, ohne dass ihr hörtet:

so werde ich dieses Haus wie Silo machen und diese Stadt dem Fluche preisgeben bei allen Völkern der Erde.

Die Priester und Propheten und das ganze Volk hörten Jeremias diese Worte reden im Hause des Herrn.

Als nun Jeremias alles ausgeredet, was ihm der Herr dem ganzen Volke zu sagen befohlen, ergriffen ihn die Priester und die Propheten und das ganze Volk und sprachen: Er soll des Todes sterben!

Warum hat er im Namen des Herrn geweissagt und gesprochen: Wie Silo wird dieses Haus werden und diese Stadt verwüstet werden, dass niemand darin wohnt? Und das ganze Volk versammelte sich gegen Jeremias im Hause des Herrn.

Als aber die Fürsten Judas von diesen Ereignissen hörten, kamen sie hinauf aus dem Hause des Königs in das Haus des Herrn und setzten sich an dem Eingange des neuen Tores am Hause des Herrn nieder.

Und die Priester und die Propheten sprachen zu den Fürsten und zum ganzen Volke also: Dieser Mann ist des Todes schuldig, denn er hat wider diese Stadt geweissagt, so wie ihr mit eigenen Ohren gehört habt.

Da sprach Jeremias zu allen Fürsten und zu dem ganzen Volke also: Der Herr hat mich gesandt, um wider dieses Haus und wider diese Stadt alle die Worte, die ihr gehört habt, zu weissagen.

So bessert denn nun euern Wandel und eure Taten und höret auf die Stimme des Herrn, eures Gottes, so wird er sich des Übels, das er wider euch ausgesprochen hat, gereuen lassen.

Ich aber, sehet, bin in eurer Gewalt, tuet mir, wie es in euern Augen gut und recht ist.

Nur sollt ihr wissen und bedenken, dass, wenn ihr mich tötet, ihr unschuldig Blut auf euch und auf diese Stadt und ihre Bewohner bringet; denn der Herr hat mich in Wahrheit zu euch gesandt, alle diese Worte vor euern Ohren zu verkünden.

Da sprachen die Fürsten und alles Volk zu den Priestern und zu den Propheten: Dieser Mann ist nicht des Todes schuldig, denn im Namen des Herrn, unseres Gottes, hat er zu uns geredet.

Alsdann traten einige Männer von den Ältesten des Landes auf und sprachen zu allem versammelten Volk und sagten:

Michäas von Morasthi trat als Prophet in den Tagen des Ezechias, des Königs von Juda, auf, und redete zu allem Volke Juda also: So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen: Sion wird wie ein Feld gepflügt und Jerusalem zum Trümmerhaufen werden und der Tempelberg eine bewaldete Höhe.

Hat ihn etwa Ezechias, der König von Juda, und ganz Juda zum Tode verurteilt? Haben sie nicht vielmehr den Herrn gefürchtet und zu seinem Angesichte gefleht? Und hat nicht den Herrn des Übels gereut, dass er ihnen angedroht hatte? So bringen wir also großes Unheil über unsere Seelen.

Nun übte damals auch ein Mann, Urias, der Sohn Semeis von Kariathiarim, das Prophetenamt im Namen des Herrn und weissagte wider diese Stadt und wider dieses Land, ganz in Übereinstimmung mit dem, was Jeremias gesprochen.

Als aber der König Joakim und alle seine Machthaber und Fürsten diese seine Worte hörten, suchte der König ihn zu töten. Das erfuhr Urias und fürchtete sich und entfloh und kam nach Ägypten.

Doch der König Joakim sandte Leute nach Ägypten, Elnathan, den Sohn Achobors, und andere mit ihm nach Ägypten.

Diese führten Urias aus Ägypten fort und brachten ihn zum Könige Joakim, der ihn mit dem Schwerte erschlug und seinen Leichnam auf die Grabstätten des gemeinen Volkes werfen ließ.

Jedoch Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans Hand war mit Jeremias, dass er nicht in die Hände des Volkes überliefert ward, um ihn zu töten.
