- Kapitel 34 -

Come neere, ye nations and heare, and hearken, ye people: let the earth heare and all that is therein, the world and al that proceedeth thereof.

For the indignation of the Lord is vpon all nations, and his wrath vpon all their armies: hee hath destroyed them and deliuered them to the slaughter.

And their slaine shalbe cast out, and their stincke shall come vp out of their bodies, and the mountaines shalbe melted with their blood.

And all the hoste of heauen shalbe dissolued, and the heauens shall be folden like a booke: and all their hostes shall fall as the leafe falleth from the vine, and as it falleth from the figtree.

Judgment on Edom

(Isaiah 21:11–12)

For my sword shalbe drunken in the heauen: beholde, it shall come downe vpon Edom, euen vpon the people of my curse to iudgement.

The sword of the Lord is filled with blood: it is made fat with the fat and with the blood of the lambes and the goates, with the fat of the kidneis of the rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

And the vnicorne shall come downe with them and the heiffers with the bulles, and their lande shalbe drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatnesse.

For it is the day of the Lordes vengeance, and the yeere of recompence for the iudgement of Zion.

And the riuers thereof shall be turned into pitche, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shalbe burning pitch.

It shall not be quenched night nor day: the smoke thereof shall goe vp euermore: it shall be desolate from generation to generation: none shall passe through it for euer.

But the pelicane and the hedgehog shall possesse it, and the great owle, and the rauen shall dwel in it, and he shall stretch out vpon it the line of vanitie, and the stones of emptinesse.

The nobles thereof shall call to the kingdome, and there shalbe none, and all the princes thereof shalbe as nothing.

And it shall bring foorth thornes in the palaces thereof, nettles and thistles in the strong holdes thereof, and it shall be an habitation for dragons, and a court for ostriches.

There shall meete also Ziim and Iim, and the Satyre shall cry to his fellow, and the shricheowle shall rest there, and shall finde for her selfe a quiet dwelling.

There shall the owle make her nest, and laye, and hatche, and gather them vnder her shadowe: there shall the vultures also bee gathered, euery one with her make.

Seeke in the booke of the Lord, and reade: none of these shall fayle, none shall want her make: for his mouth hath commanded, and his very Spirit hath gathered them.

And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath deuided it vnto them by line: they shall possesse it for euer: from generation to generation shall they dwell in it.

Gericht über die Nationen

Kommet herzu, ihr Völker, und höret, und ihr Nationen, merket auf; es höre die Erde und ihre Fülle, der Erdkreis und all sein Sprossen!

Denn der Grimm des Herrn ergeht über alle Völker, sein Zorn über alle ihre Kriegsmacht, er tötet sie und gibt sie zur Tötung hin.

Ihre Erschlagenen werden hingeworfen und von ihren Leichnamen steigt Gestank auf, die Berge zergehen von ihrem Blute.

Und das ganze Himmelsheer zergeht und wie ein Buch werden die Himmel zusammengerollt, all ihr Heer fällt dahin, wie ein Blatt vom Weinstock und vom Feigenbaum abfällt.

(Jesaja 21,11-12)

Denn mein Schwert ist trunken geworden im Himmel; siehe, es fährt hernieder auf Idumäa und auf das Volk meiner Schlachtung zum Strafgerichte.

Das Schwert des Herrn ist voll Blut, gesättigt von Fett, vom Blute der Lämmer und Böcke, vom Blute der feistesten Widder; denn ein Opfer hält der Herr in Bosra, ein großes Schlachten im Lande Edom.

Es stürzen Einhörner mit ihnen und Stiere mit den Mächtigen, trunken wird ihr Land von Blut und ihr Boden vom Fett der Feisten.

Denn es ist der Tag der Rache des Herrn, das Jahr der Vergeltungen, um Sion Recht zu schaffen.

Da wandeln sich seine Ströme in Pech und sein Boden in Schwefel, sein Land wird zu brennendem Pech.

Tag und Nacht wird es nicht erlöschen, ewig wird sein Rauch emporsteigen; von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht wird es wüste bleiben, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit wird niemand es durchwandern.

Pelikan und Igel nehmen es in Besitz, Ibis und Rabe hausen daselbst; man spannt darüber die Meßschnur aus, um es zu vernichten, das Richtbeil, um es zu veröden.

Seine Edeln sind nicht mehr daselbst; sie rufen sehr nach einem Könige, alle seine Fürsten sind dahin!

In seinen Häusern schießen Dornen und Nesseln auf und Hagedornen in seinen Festen, es wird zum Lager für Drachen und zur Weide für Strauße.

Böse Geister und Ungetüme begegnen sich da, Zottige heulen einander zu, dort beherbergt das Nachtgespenst und findet seine Ruhe.

Dort hat der Igel seine Höhle, nährt seine Jungen, wühlt umher und hegt sie in ihrem Schatten; dort versammeln sich die Geier zueinander.

Forschet emsig im Buche des Herrn und leset! keines von diesen Dingen bleibt aus, keines vermisst das andere; denn was aus meinem Munde kommt, hat er befohlen, und sein Geist selber ist es, der es zusammengebracht hat.

Er selbst hat ihnen das Los geworfen und seine Hand es ihnen zum Maßteil gegeben, auf ewig werden sie es innehaben und von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht darin hausen.
