- Kapitel 46 -

Then Israel tooke his iourney with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifice vnto the God of his father Izhak.

And God spake vnto Israel in a vision by night, saying, Iaakob, Iaakob. Who answered, I am here.

Then hee sayde, I am God, the God of thy father, feare not to goe downe into Egypt: for I will there make of thee a great nation.

I wil go downe with thee into Egypt, and I will also bring thee vp againe, and Ioseph shall put his hand vpon thine eyes.

Then Iaakob rose vp from Beer-sheba: and the sonnes of Israel caried Iaakob their father, and their children, and their wiues in the charets, which Pharaoh had sent to cary him.

And they tooke their cattell and their goods, which they had gotten in the lande of Canaan, and came into Egypt, both Iaakob and all his seede with him,

Those Who Went to Egypt

(Exodus 1:1–7)

His sonnes and his sonnes sonnes with him, his daughters and his sonnes daughters, and al his seede brought he with him into Egypt.

The Children of Leah

And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, euen Iaakob and his sonnes: Reuben, Iaakobs first borne.

And the sonnes of Reuben: Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

And the sonnes of Simeon: Iemuel, and Iamin, and Ohad, and Iachin, and Zohar; and Shaul the sonne of a Canaanitish woman.

Also the sonnes of Leui: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Also the sonnes of Iudah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: (but Er and Onan died in ye land of Canaan) And the sonnes of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

Also the sonnes of Issachar: Tola, and Phuuah, and Iob, and Shimron.

Also the sonnes of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Iahleel.

These bee the sonnes of Leah, which shee bare vnto Iaakob in Padan Aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the soules of his sonnes and his daughters were thirtie and three.

The Children of Zilpah

Also the sonnes of Gad: Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.

Also the sonnes of Asher: Iimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sonnes of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel.

These are the children of Zilpah, whome Laban gaue to Leah his daughter: and these shee bare vnto Iaakob, euen sixtene soules.

The Children of Rachel

The sonnes of Rahel Iaakobs wife were Ioseph and Beniamin.

And vnto Ioseph in the lande of Egypt were borne Manasseh, and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah prince of On bare vnto him.

Also the sonnes of Beniamin: Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.

These are the sonnes of Rahel, which were borne vnto Iaakob, fourteene soules in all.

The Children of Bilhah

Also the sonnes of Dan: Hushim.

Also the sonnes of Naphtali: Iahzeel, and Guni, and Iezer, and Shillem.

These are the sonnes of Bilhah, which Laban gaue vnto Rahel his daughter, and shee bare these to Iaakob, in all, seuen soules.

Al the soules, that came with Iaakob into Egypt, which came out of his loynes (beside Iaakobs sonnes wiues) were in the whole, three score and sixe soules.

Also the sonnes of Ioseph, which were borne him in Egypt, were two soules: so that al the soules of the house of Iaakob, which came into Egypt, are seuentie.

Jacob Arrives in Egypt

The he sent Iudah before him vnto Ioseph, to direct his way vnto Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen.

Then Ioseph made ready his charet and went vp to Goshen to meete Israel his father, and presented himselfe vnto him and fel on his necke, and wept vpon his necke a good while.

And Israel sayde vnto Ioseph, Now let me die, since I haue seene thy face, and that thou art yet aliue.

Then Ioseph said to his brethren, and to his fathers house, I wil go vp and shew Pharaoh, and tell him, My brethren and my fathers house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come vnto me,

And the men are shepheardes, and because they are shepheardes, they haue brought their sheepe and their cattell, and all that they haue.

And if Pharaoh call you, and aske you, What is your trade?

Then ye shall say, Thy seruants are men occupied about cattell, from our childehood euen vnto this time, both we and our fathers: that yee may dwell in the lande of Goshen: for euery sheepe keeper is an abomination vnto the Egyptians.

Jakobs Reise nach Ägypten

Da brach Israel mit allem, was er hatte, auf, und kam zum Brunnen des Schwures, und brachte daselbst dem Gott seines Vaters Isaak Opfer dar.

Im nächtlichen Gesichte aber hörte er, wie Gott ihn rief und zu ihm sprach: Jakob, Jakob! Er antwortete ihm: Siehe, hier bin ich!

Und Gott sprach zu ihm: Ich bin der Starke, der Gott deines Vaters, fürchte dich nicht, ziehe hinab nach Ägypten, denn ich will dich daselbst zu einem großen Volke machen.

Ich selbst werde mit dir dorthin hinabziehen, und ich selbst werde dich von dort heraufführen, wenn du zurückkehrst; und Joseph soll seine Hände auf deine Augen legen.

Da brach Jakob vom Brunnen des Schwures auf, und seine Söhne hoben ihn mit ihren Kindern und Frauen auf die Wagen, die Pharao gesandt hatte, um den Greis hinzuführen,

dazu alles, was er im Lande Chanaan besaß; und er kam nach Ägypten mit seiner ganzen Nachkommenschaft,

seinen Söhnen und Enkeln, und Töchtern, und seinen gesamten Abkömmlingen allzumal.

Dies aber sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, welche nach Ägypten gezogen sind, er mit seinen Kindern. Der Erstgeborene Ruben.

Die Söhne Rubens: Henoch, Phallu, Hesron, und Charmi.

Die Söhne Simeons: Jamuel, Jamin, Ahod, Jachin, Sohar und Saul, der Sohn der Chananiterin.

Die Söhne Levis: Gerson, Kaath, und Merari.

Die Söhne Judas: Her, Onan, Sela, Phares und Zara. Her und Onan jedoch starben im Lande Chanaan. Und Phares wurden Söhne geboren: Hesron und Hamul.

Die Söhne Issachars: Thola, Phua, Job und Semron.

Die Söhne Zabulons: Sared, Elon, und Jahelel.

Dies sind die Söhne Lias, die sie in Mesopotamien in Syrien gebar, samt Dina ihrer Tochter; alle Seelen ihrer Söhne und ihrer Töchter zusammen dreiunddreißig.

Die Söhne Gads: Sephion, Haggi, Suni, Esebon, Heri, Arodi und Areli.

Die Söhne Asers: Jamne, Jesua, Jessui, Beria, dazu Sara, ihre Schwester. Die Söhne Berias: Heber und Melchiel.

Dies sind die Söhne der Zelpha, welche Laban seiner Tochter Lia mitgab, und diese gebar sie dem Jakob, sechzehn Seelen.

Die Söhne Rachels, des Weibes Jakobs: Joseph und Benjamin.

Auch dem Joseph wurden im Lande Ägypten Söhne geboren, welche ihm Aseneth, die Tochter Putiphares, des Priesters von Heliopolis, gebar: Manasses und Ephraim.

Die Söhne Benjamins: Bela, Bechor, Asbel, Gera, Naaman, Echi, Ros, Mophim, Ophim und Ared.

Dies sind die Söhne Rachels, welche sie Jakob gebar; zusammen vierzehn Seelen.

Die Söhne Dans: Husim.

Die Söhne Nephthalis: Jasiel, Guni, Jeser und Salem.

Dies sind die Söhne der Bala, welche Laban seiner Tochter Rachel mitgab, und diese gebar sie dem Jakob; zusammen sieben Seelen.

Alle Seelen, die mit Jakob nach Ägypten kamen und die aus seinen Lenden hervorgegangen waren, ungerechnet die Frauen seiner Söhne, waren sechsundsechzig.

Die Söhne Josephs aber, die ihm im Lande Ägypten geboren worden, waren zwei Seelen. Alle Seelen des Hauses Jakob, die nach Ägypten kamen, waren siebzig.

Jakob lässt sich in Goschen nieder

Er sandte aber Juda vor sich her zu Joseph, um ihm Nachricht zu geben, dass er ihm entgegenkommen solle bis nach Gessen.

Als jener dahingekommen war, ließ Joseph seinen Wagen anspannen und zog seinem Vater an denselben Ort entgegen; und da er ihn sah, fiel er ihm um den Hals und weinte an seinem Halse.

Und der Vater sprach zu Joseph: Nun will ich freudig sterben, da ich dein Antlitz gesehen habe und dich am Leben zurücklasse.

Er aber sprach zu seinen Brüdern und zum gesamten Hause seines Vaters: Ich werde hinaufziehen, und dem Pharao berichten, und ihm sagen: Meine Brüder, und das Haus meines Vaters, welche im Lande Chanaan waren, sind zu mir gekommen.

Und zwar sind die Männer Schafhirten und treiben Viehzucht; ihre Schafe und Rinder, und alles, was sie besaßen, haben sie mitgebracht.

Wenn er euch nun rufen last und fragt: Welches ist euer Beruf?

So antwortet: Deine Knechte sind Hirten von Jugend auf und bis jetzt, wir, sowohl wie unsere Väter. Das aber saget, damit ihr im Lande Gessen wohnen könnet, denn die Ägypter verabscheuen alle Schafhirten.
