- Kapitel 8 -

And in the sixt yere, in the sixt moneth, and in the fift day of the moneth, as I sate in mine house, and the Elders of Iudah sate before me, the hand of the Lord God fell there vpon me.

Then I beheld, and lo, there was a likenesse, as the appearance of fire, to looke to, from his loynes downeward, and from his loynes vpward, as the appearance of brightnes, and like vnto amber.

And he stretched out the likenes of an had, and tooke me by an hearie locke of mine head, and the Spirit lift me vp betweene the earth, and the heauen, and brought mee by a Diuine vision to Ierusalem, into the entry of ye inner gate that lieth toward the North, where remained the idole of indignation, which prouoked indignation.

And beholde, the glorie of the God of Israel was there according to the vision, that I saw in the fielde.

Then saide he vnto mee, Sonne of man, lift vp thine eyes nowe towarde the North. So I lift vp mine eyes towarde the North, and beholde, Northward, at the gate of the altar, this idole of indignation was in the entrie.

He said furthermore vnto me, Sonne of man, seest thou not what they doe? euen the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here to cause me to depart from my Sanctuarie? but yet turne thee and thou shalt see greater abominations.

And he caused me to enter at the gate of the court: and when I looked, beholde, an hole was in the wall.

Then said he vnto me, Sonne of man, digge nowe in the wall. And when I had digged in the wall, beholde, there was a doore.

And he said vnto mee, Go in, and beholde the wicked abominations that they doe here.

So I went in, and sawe, and beholde, there was euery similitude of creeping thinges and abominable beasts and all the idoles of the house of Israel painted vpon the wall round about.

And there stoode before them seuentie men of the Ancients of the house of Israel, and in the middes of them stoode Iaazaniah, ye sonne of Shaphan, with euerie man his censour in his hand, and the vapour of the incense went vp like a cloude.

Then saide hee vnto mee, Sonne of man, hast thou seene what the Ancients of the house of Israel do in the darke, euery one in the chamber of his imagerie? for they say, The Lord seeth vs not, the Lord hath forsaken the earth.

Againe he saide also vnto me, Turne thee againe, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they doe.

And he caused me to enter into the entrie of the gate of the Lords house, which was toward the North: and beholde there sate women mourning for Tammuz.

Then saide hee vnto me, Hast thou seene this, O sonne of man? Turne thee againe, and thou shalt see greater abominations then these.

And he caused me to enter into the inner court of the Lordes house, and beholde, at the doore of the Temple of the Lord, betweene the porche and the altar were about fiue and twentie men with their backs toward the Temple of the Lord, and their faces towarde the East, and they worshipped the sunne, towarde the East.

The he said vnto me, Hast thou seene this, O sonne of man? Is it a small thing to the house of Iudah to commit these abominations which they do here? for they haue filled the land with crueltie, and haue returned to prouoke mee: and loe, they haue cast out stinke before their noses.

Therefore will I also execute my wrath: mine eye shall not spare them, neither will I haue pitie, and though they crie in mine eares with a loude voyce, yet will I not heare them.

Abscheulichkeiten im Tempel

Und es geschah im sechsten Jahre, im sechsten Monat, am fünften des Monats, als ich in meinem Hause saß und die Ältesten Judas vor mir saßen, kam daselbst die Hand des Herrn, über mich.

und ich schaute und siehe da! Eine Gestalt, wie Feuer anzusehen; von seinen Lenden an abwärts war es wie Feuer anzusehen und von seinen Lenden aufwärts wie Schimmer von Glanzerz.

Da streckte sich am Gebilde etwas wie eine Hand aus und ergriff mich bei den Haaren meines Hauptes und der Geist hob mich empor zwischen Himmel und Erde und brachte mich nach Jerusalem in einem Gottes-Gesichte an das innere Tor, das gegen Mitternacht zu liegt, wo der Götze der Eifersucht war, der zur Eifersucht reizte.

Und siehe, daselbst war die Herrlichkeit des Gottes Israels, ganz wie das Gesicht, welches ich in der Ebene gesehen.

Und er sprach zu mir: Menschensohn! Erhebe deine Augen in der Richtung nach Mitternacht. Als ich nun meine Augen gegen Mitternacht gegen Mitternacht erhob, siehe, da stand gegen Mitternacht bei dem Tore des Altares der Götze der Eifersucht gleich am Eingange.

Und er sprach zu mir: Menschensohn! Siehst du wohl, was sie da tun, die großen Greuel, welche das Haus Israel hier verübt, dass ich mich weit entfernen muss von meinem Heiligtume? Aber du wirst noch größere Greuel sehen.

Alsdann führte er mich zu dem Tore des Vorhofes, da schaute ich und siehe: eine Spalte war in der Wand.

Und er sprach zu mir: Menschensohn! Durchbrich die Wand. Als ich nun die Wand durchbrach, zeigte sich eine Tür.

Er sprach zu mir: Tritt ein und sieh die schlimmen Greuel, welche sie hier verüben!

Da trat ich ein und schaute und siehe, da waren allerlei Gebilde von Gewürm und anderen Tieren, Greuel und allerlei Götzenbilder des Hauses Israel waren da an der Wand allenthalben ringsum abgemalt.

Und siebzig Männer von den Ältesten des Hauses Israel und Jezonias, der Sohn Saphans, in ihrer Mitte, standen vor den Bildnissen und ein jeder hatte ein Rauchfass in seiner Hand und der Duft einer Wolke von Weihrauch stieg empor.

Da sprach er zu mir: Du siehst doch, Menschensohn! Was die Ältesten des Hauses Israel im Finstern begehen, ein jeder im Dunkel seiner Kammer; denn sie sagen: Der Herr sieht uns nicht, der Herr hat das Land verlassen.

Alsdann sprach er zu mir: Du wirst noch größere Greuel sehen, welche jene verüben.

Und er führte mich zum Eingang des Tores am Hause des Herrn, welches gegen Mitternacht lag; siehe, da saßen Frauen, welche den Adonis beweinten.

Da sprach er zu mir: Du hast es doch gesehen, Menschensohn? Du wirst noch größere Greuel sehen als diese.

Und er führte mich in den inneren Vorhof des Hauses des Herrn; siehe, da waren am Eingange zum Tempel des Herrn. zwischen der Vorhalle und dem Altare, etwa fünfundzwanzig Männer, die mit dem Rücken gegen den Tempel des Herrn, mit dem Gesicht aber gegen Aufgang gewendet waren; diese beteten gegen Aufgang der Sonne zu an.

Da sprach er zu mir: Du hast es doch gesehen, Menschensohn? Ist es dem Hause Juda zu wenig, diese Greuel zu verüben, die sie hier begehen, dass sie auch das Land mit Gewalttat erfüllten und mich immer wieder zum Zorne reizten? Siehe nur, wie sie den Zweig an ihre Nase halten.

So will auch ich denn im Grimme handeln; mein Auge soll nicht schonen und ich werde kein Erbarmen haben, und wenn sie noch so laut zu meinen Ohren rufen, werde ich sie nicht erhören.
