- Kapitel 7 -

When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possesse it, and shall roote out many nations before thee: the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hiuites, and the Iebusites, seuen nations greater and mightier then thou,

And the Lord thy God shall giue them before thee, then thou shalt smite them: thou shalt vtterly destroy them: thou shalt make no couenant with them, nor haue compassion on them,

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them, neither giue thy daughter vnto his sonne, nor take his daughter vnto thy sonne.

For they wil cause thy sonne to turne away from me, and to serue other gods: then will the wrath of the Lord waxe hote against you and destroy thee suddenly.

But thus ye shall deale with them, Ye shall ouerthrowe their altars, and breake downe their pillars, and ye shall cut downe their groues, and burne their grauen images with fire.

For thou art an holy people vnto the Lord thy God, the Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be a precious people vnto himselfe, aboue all people that are vpon the earth.

The Lord did not set his loue vpon you, nor chose you, because ye were more in number then any people: for ye were the fewest of all people:

But because the Lord loued you, and because hee would keepe the othe which hee had sworne vnto your fathers, the Lord hath brought you out by a mightie hand, and deliuered you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt,

That thou mayest knowe, that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithfull God which keepeth couenant and mercie vnto them that loue him and keepe his commandements, euen to a thousand generations,

And rewardeth them to their face that hate him, to bring them to destruction: he wil not deferre to reward him that hateth him, to his face.

Keepe thou therefore the commandements, and the ordinances, and the lawes, which I commaund thee this day to doe them.

The Promises of God

(Exodus 23:20–33)

For if ye hearken vnto these lawes, and obserue and doe them, then the Lord thy God shall keepe with thee the couenant, and the mercie which he sware vnto thy fathers.

And he wil loue thee, and blesse thee, and multiplie thee: he will also blesse the fruite of thy wombe, and the fruite of thy land, thy corne and thy wine, and thine oyle and the increase of thy kine, and the flockes of thy sheepe in the land, which he sware vnto thy fathers to giue thee.

Thou shalt be blessed aboue all people: there shall be neither male nor female barren among you, nor among your cattell.

Moreouer, the Lord will take away from thee all infirmities, and will put none of the euill diseases of Egypt (which thou knowest) vpon thee, but wil send them vpon all that hate thee.

Thou shalt therefore consume all people which the Lord thy God shall giue thee: thine eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serue their gods, for that shalbe thy destruction.

If thou say in thine heart, These nations are moe then I, how can I cast them out?

Thou shalt not feare them, but remember what the Lord thy God did vnto Pharaoh, and vnto all Egypt:

The great tentations which thine eyes sawe, and the signes and wonders, and the mighty hand and stretched out arme, whereby the Lord thy God brought thee out: so shall the Lord thy God do vnto all ye people, whose face thou fearest.

Moreouer, the Lord thy God will send hornets among them vntil they that are left, and hide themselues from thee, be destroyed.

Thou shalt not feare them: for the Lord thy God is among you, a God mightie and dreadful.

And the Lord thy God wil roote out these nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, least the beasts of the fielde increase vpon thee.

But the Lord thy God shall giue them before thee, and shall destroy them with a mightie destruction, vntill they be brought to naught.

And he shall deliuer their Kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from vnder heauen: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, vntill thou hast destroyed them.

The grauen images of their gods shall ye burne with fire, and couet not the siluer and golde, that is on them, nor take it vnto thee, least thou be snared therewith: for it is an abomination before the Lord thy God.

Bring not therefore abomination into thine house, lest, thou be accursed like it, but vtterly abhorre it, and count it most abominable: for it is accursed.

Ein auserwähltes Volk

Wenn dich der Herr, dein Gott, in das Land bringt, in das du ziehst, es in Besitz zu nehmen, und viele Völker vor dir vertilgt, die Hethiter, Gergeziter, Amorrhiter, Chananiter, Phereziter, Heviter und Jebusiter, sieben Völker, viel zahlreicher, als du bist, und stärker als du,

und der Herr, dein Gott, sie dir preisgibt, so sollst du sie bis zur Vernichtung schlagen. Du sollst kein Bündnis mit ihnen eingehen, noch dich ihrer erbarmen,

noch Ehen mit ihnen schließen. Deine Töchter sollst du ihren Söhnen nicht geben und ihre Töchter nicht für deine Söhne nehmen,

denn sie werden deine Söhne verführen, dass sie mir nicht folgen, sondern vielmehr andern Göttern dienen; dann wird der Zorn des Herrn entbrennen und dich alsbald vertilgen.

Vielmehr sollt ihr dies an ihnen tun: Ihre Altäre reißet nieder, ihre Bildsäulen zerbrechet, ihre Haine hauet um, und ihre geschnitzten Bilder verbrennet.

Denn du bist ein dem Herrn, deinem Gotte, geheiligtes Volk. Dich hat der Herr, dein Gott, auserwählt, dass du sein Eigentumsvolk aus allen Völkern seiest, die auf Erden sind.

Nicht weil ihr alle Völker an Zahl übertrafet, hat sich der Herr mit euch verbunden und hat euch erwählt, denn ihr seid weniger zahlreich als alle Völker;

sondern weil euch der Herr liebte und den Eid hielt, den er euern Vätern geschworen, hat er euch mit starker Hand herausgeführt und euch aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, aus der Hand Pharaos, des Königs von Ägypten, erlöst.

So sollst du nun erkennen, dass der Herr, dein Gott, ein starker und getreuer Gott ist, beständig in seinem Bunde und in seiner Barmherzigkeit gegen die, welche ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten, bis in´s tausendste Geschlecht;

aber denen, die ihn hassen, alsbald so vergilt, dass er sie vertilgt und keinen Aufschub kennt, sondern alsbald ihnen vergilt, was sie verdienen.

So halte denn die Gebote und Satzungen und Rechte, die ich dir heute gebiete, dass du sie übest.

Segnungen des Gehorsams

(2. Mose 23,20-33)

Wenn du auf diese Rechte hörst und sie hältst und tust, so wird der Herr, dein Gott, dir auch den Bund und die Gnade bewahren, die er deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat,

und wird dich lieben und mehren, und die Frucht deines Leibes segnen, und die Frucht deines Landes, dein Getreide und deine Weinlese, dein Öl und dein Vieh, und die Herden deiner Schafe in dem Lande, das er deinen Vätern geschworen, dir zu geben.

Gesegnet wirst du sein unter allen Völkern. Weder ein Unfruchtbarer, noch eine Unfruchtbare wird bei dir sein, weder bei den Menschen, noch bei deinen Herden.

Der Herr wird alle Krankheit von dir wegnehmen und wird die schlimmen Seuchen Ägyptens, die du kennst, nicht über dich bringen, sondern über alle deine Feinde;

und du wirst alle Völker vertilgen, die der Herr, dein Gott, dir preisgeben wird. Dein Auge schone ihrer nicht und diene ihren Göttern nicht, damit sie dir nicht Anlass zum Falle werden.

Wenn du in deinem Herzen sagen solltest: Diese Völker sind zahlreicher als ich, wie werde ich sie vernichten können?

so fürchte dich nicht, sondern gedenke, was der Herr, dein Gott, dem Pharao und allen Ägyptern getan hat,

der schrecklichen Plagen, die deine Augen gesehen, und der Zeichen und Wunder, und der starken Hand, und des ausgestreckten Armes, womit dich der Herr, dein Gott, hinweggeführt hat; ebenso wird er allen Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest.

Überdies wird der Herr, dein Gott, Hornissen über sie senden, bis er alle vernichtet und aufreibt, die dir entgangen sind und sich verbergen konnten.

Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen, denn der Herr, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein großer und furchtbarer Gott;

er wird diese Völker vor deinen Augen nach und nach ausrotten, eines nach dem andern. Du wirst sie nicht auf einmal vernichten können, damit sich die wilden Tiere nicht zu sehr gegen dich vermehren.

Und der Herr, dein Gott, wird sie vor deinen Augen dahingeben und wird sie töten, bis sie gänzlich vernichtet sind.

Und er wird ihre Könige in deine Hände geben, und du wirst ihre Namen unter dem Himmel austilgen; niemand wird dir widerstehen können, bis du sie vernichtest.

Ihre geschnitzten Bilder sollst du mit Feuer verbrennen. Verlange nicht nach dem Silber und Golde, aus denen sie gemacht sind, und nimm etwas davon für dich, damit du nicht Anstoß nehmest; denn es ist vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Greuel.

Bringe auch nichts von einem Götzenbilde in dein Haus, dass du nicht fluchbeladen werdest wie jenes. Wie Unrat sollst du es verabscheuen, und wie Schmutz und Kot soll es dir ein Greuel sein, denn es ist fluchbeladen.
