- Kapitel 7 -

(Genesis 12:1–9)

Then sayd the chiefe Priest, Are these things so?

And he sayd, Ye men, brethren and Fathers, hearken. That God of glory appeared vnto our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

And said vnto him, Come out of thy countrey, and from thy kindred, and come into the land, which I shall shewe thee.

Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And after that his father was dead, God brought him from thence into this land, wherein ye now dwell,

And hee gaue him none inheritance in it, no, not the bredth of a foote: yet he promised that he would giue it to him for a possession, and to his seede after him, when as yet hee had no childe.

But God spake thus, that his seede should be a soiourner in a strange land: and that they should keepe it in bondage, and entreate it euill foure hundreth yeeres.

But the nation to whome they shall be in bondage, will I iudge, sayth God: and after that, they shall come forth and serue me in this place.

Hee gaue him also the couenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begate Isaac, and circumcised him the eight day: and Isaac begate Iacob, and Iacob the twelue Patriarkes.

Joseph Sold into Egypt

(Genesis 37:12–30)

And the Patriarkes moued with enuie, solde Ioseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

And deliuered him out of all his afflictions, and gaue him fauour and wisdome in the sight of Pharao King of Egypt, who made him gouernour ouer Egypt, and ouer his whole house.

Then came there a famine ouer all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction, that our fathers found no sustenance.

But when Iacob heard that there was corne in Egypt, he sent our fathers first:

And at the second time, Ioseph was knowen of his brethren, and Iosephs kindred was made knowen vnto Pharao.

Then sent Ioseph and caused his father to be brought, and all his kindred, euen threescore and fifteene soules.

Israel Oppressed in Egypt

(Exodus 1:8–22)

So Iacob went downe into Egypt, and he dyed, and our fathers,

And were remoued into Sychem, and were put in the sepulchre, that Abraham had bought for money of the sonnes of Emor, sonne of Sychem.

But when the time of the promise drewe neere, which God had sworne to Abraham, the people grewe and multiplied in Egypt,

Till another King arose, which knewe not Ioseph.

The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and euill entreated our fathers, and made them to cast out their yong children, that they should not remaine aliue.

The Birth and Adoption of Moses

(Exodus 2:1–10; Hebrews 11:23–29)

The same time was Moses borne, and was acceptable vnto God, which was nourished vp in his fathers house three moneths.

And when he was cast out, Pharaohs daughter tooke him vp, and nourished him for her owne sonne.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdome of the Egyptians, and was mightie in wordes and in deedes.

The Rejection and Flight of Moses

(Exodus 2:11–22)

Nowe when he was full fourtie yeere olde, it came into his heart to visite his brethren, the children of Israel.

And whe he saw one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and auenged his quarell that had the harme done to him, and smote the Egyptian.

For hee supposed his brethren would haue vnderstand, that God by his hande should giue them deliuerance: but they vnderstoode it not.

And the next day, he shewed himselfe vnto them as they stroue, and woulde haue set them at one againe, saying, Syrs, ye are brethren: why doe ye wrong one to another?

But he that did his neighbour wrong, thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a prince, and a iudge ouer vs?

Wilt thou kill mee, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?

Then fled Moses at that saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begate two sonnes.

The Call of Moses

(Exodus 3:1–22)

And when fourtie yeres were expired, there appeared to him in the wildernes of mout Sina, an Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire, in a bush.

And when Moses sawe it, hee wondred at the sight: and as he drew neere to consider it, the voyce of the Lord came vnto him, saying,

I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold it.

Then the Lord said to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feete: for the place where thou standest, is holy ground.

I haue seene, I haue seene the affliction of my people, which is in Egypt, and I haue heard their groning, and am come downe to deliuer them: and nowe come, and I will sende thee into Egypt.

This Moses whome they forsooke, saying, Who made thee a prince and a iudge? the same God sent for a prince, and a deliuerer by the hand of the Angel, which appeared to him in the bush.

Hee brought them out, doing wonders, and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the red sea, and in the wildernes fourtie yeeres.

This is that Moses, which saide vnto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise vp vnto you, euen of your brethren, like vnto me: him shall ye heare.

This is he that was in the Congregation, in the wildernes with the Angell, which spake to him in mount Sina, and with our fathers, who receiued the liuely oracles to giue vnto vs.

The Rebellion of Israel

(Exodus 32:1–35; Deuteronomy 9:7–29; Amos 5:16–27)

To whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned backe againe into Egypt:

Saying vnto Aaron, Make vs gods that may goe before vs: for we knowe not what is become of this Moses that brought vs out of the land of Egypt.

And they made a calfe in those dayes, and offered sacrifice vnto the idole, and reioyced in the workes of their owne handes.

Then God turned himselfe away, and gaue them vp to serue the host of heauen, as it is written in the booke of the Prophets, O house of Israel, haue ye offred to me slaine beasts and sacrifices by the space of fourtie yeres in the wildernes?

And ye tooke vp the tabernacle of Moloch, and the starre of your god Remphan, figures, which ye made to worship them: therefore I will carie you away beyond Babylon.

The Tabernacle of the Testimony

(Exodus 40:1–33; Hebrews 9:1–10)

Our fathers had the tabernacle of witnes, in the wildernes, as hee had appointed, speaking vnto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seene.

Which tabernacle also our fathers receiued, and brought in with Iesus into the possession of the Gentiles, which God draue out before our fathers, vnto the dayes of Dauid:

Who found fauour before God, and desired that hee might finde a tabernacle for the God of Iacob.

But Salomon built him an house.

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with handes, as saith the Prophet,

Heauen is my throne, and earth is my footestoole: what house wil ye build for me, saith the Lord? or what place is it that I should rest in?

Hath not mine hand made all these things?

Ye stiffenecked and of vncircumcised heartes and eares, ye haue alwayes resisted the holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you.

Which of the Prophets haue not your fathers persecuted? and they haue slaine them, which shewed before of the comming of that Iust, of whome ye are now the betrayers and murtherers,

Which haue receiued the Lawe by the ordinance of Angels, and haue not kept it.

The Stoning of Stephen

But when they heard these thinges, their heartes brast for anger, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

But he being full of the holy Ghost, looked stedfastly into heauen, and sawe the glory of God, and Iesus standing at the right hand of God,

And said, Beholde, I see the heauens open, and the Sonne of man standing at the right hand of God.

Then they gaue a shoute with a loude voyce, and stopped their eares, and ranne vpon him violently all at once,

And cast him out of the citie, and stoned him: and the witnesses layd downe their clothes at a yong mans feete, named Saul.

And they stoned Steuen, who called on God, and said, Lord Iesus, receiue my spirit.

And he kneeled downe, and cried with a loude voyce, Lord, laye not this sinne to their charge. And when he had thus spoken, he slept.

Die Ansprache des Stephanus: Der Ruf Abrahams

(1. Mose 12,1-9)

Der Hohepriester aber sprach: Ist dem also?

Da sprach er: Ihr Brüder und Väter, höret! Der Gott der Herrlichkeit erschien unserm Vater Abraham, als er in Mesopotamien war, ehe er in Charan wohnte,

und sprach zu ihm: Gehe hinweg aus deinem Lande und von deiner Verwandtschaft, und komme in ein Land, das ich dir zeigen werde!

Da zog er fort aus dem Lande der Chaldäer, und wohnte in Charan. Und von da versetzte Gott ihn nach seines Vaters Tode in dieses Land, in welchem ihr jetzt wohnet.

Und er gab ihm keinen Erbbesitz in demselben, auch nicht einen Fuß breit; sondern verhieß es ihm zum Besitze zu geben und seinen Nachkommen nach ihm, obwohl er noch keinen Sohn hatte.

Gott aber sprach zu ihm: Seine Nachkommen werden heimatlos sein in fremdem Lande, und man wird sie dienstbar machen und übel behandeln vierhundert Jahre.

Aber das Volk, dem sie dienstbar sein werden, werde ich richten, sprach der Herr; und darnach werden sie ausziehen, und werden mir an diesem Orte dienen.

Und er gab ihm den Bund der Beschneidung; und so zeugte er den Isaak, und beschnitt ihn am achten Tage; und Isaak den Jakob, und Jakob die zwölf Stammväter.

Die Patriarchen in Ägypten

(1. Mose 37,12-30)

Und die Stammväter beneideten den Joseph, und verkauften ihn nach Ägypten; aber Gott war mit ihm,

und errettete ihn aus allen seinen Drangsalen, und gab ihm Gnade und Weisheit vor Pharao, dem Könige von Ägypten, und setzte ihn zum Vorsteher über Ägypten und über sein ganzes Haus.

Es kam aber eine Hungersnot über ganz Ägypten und Chanaan, und große Drangsal; und unsere Väter fanden keine Nahrung.

Als aber Jakob hörte, dass in Ägypten Getreide sei, sandte er unsere Väter zum ersten Male hin.

Und beim zweiten Male ward Joseph von seinen Brüdern erkannt, und seine Herkunft dem Pharao kund.

Joseph aber sandte hin, und ließ seinen Vater Jakob kommen samt dessen ganzer Verwandtschaft, fünfundsiebzig Seelen.

(2. Mose 1,8-22)

Und Jakob zog hinab nach Ägypten, und starb, er und unsere Väter.

Und sie wurden nach Sichem gebracht, und in der Grabstätte beigesetzt, welche Abraham um Geld von den Söhnen Hemors, des Sohnes Sichems, gekauft hatte.

Gott befreit Israel durch Mose

Als aber die Zeit der Verheißung nahte, die Gott dem Abraham zugesagt hatte, wuchs das Volk und mehrte sich in Ägypten,

bis ein anderer König in Ägypten aufstand, welcher den Joseph nicht kannte.

Dieser verfuhr arglistig gegen unser Geschlecht, und drückte unsere Väter, dass sie ihre Kinder aussetzen mussten, damit diese nicht am Leben blieben.

(2. Mose 2,1-10; Hebräer 11,23-29)

Zu eben dieser Zeit ward Moses geboren; und Gott hatte Wohlgefallen an ihm. Und er ward drei Monate in seines Vaters Hause genährt.

Als er aber ausgesetzt wurde, nahm ihn die Tochter Pharao´s auf, und erzog ihn als ihren Sohn.

Und Moses ward in aller Weisheit der Ägypter unterrichtet, und war mächtig in seinen Worten und Taten.

(2. Mose 2,11-22)

Als er aber vierzig Jahre alt war, kam es ihm in den Sinn, seine Brüder, die Kinder Israels, zu besuchen.

Und da er einen Unrecht leiden sah, verteidigte er ihn, und rächte den, der Unrecht litt, indem er den Ägypter erschlug.

Er glaubte aber, seine Brüder würden verstehen, dass Gott ihnen Rettung durch seine Hand verschaffen wolle, allein sie verstanden es nicht.

Am folgenden Tage zeigte er sich ihnen, als sie eben stritten; und er suchte zwischen ihnen Frieden zu stiften, und sprach: Männer! ihr seid Brüder, warum tut ihr einander Unrecht?

Derjenige aber, welcher seinem Nächsten Unrecht tat, stieß ihn zurück, und sagte: Wer hat dich zum Vorsteher und Richter über uns gesetzt?

Willst du mich etwa töten, wie du gestern den Ägypter getötet hast?

Da floh Moses auf dieses Wort, und ward ein Fremdling im Lande Madian, wo er zwei Söhne zeugte.

(2. Mose 3,1-22)

Und als vierzig Jahre erfüllt waren, erschien ihm in der Wüste des Berges Sina ein Engel in der Feuerflamme eines Dornbusches.

Da Moses dies sah, staunte er über die Erscheinung; und als er hinzutrat, um sie zu betrachten, erging an ihm eine Stimme des Herrn:

Ich bin der Gott deiner Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs. Da zitterte Moses, und wagte nicht hinzuschauen.

Der Herr aber sprach zu ihm: Löse die Schuhe von deinen Füßen; denn die Stätte, auf der du stehest, ist heiliger Boden.

Ich habe sehr wohl die Bedrückung meines Volkes, das in Ägypten ist, gesehen, und habe ihr Seufzen gehört, und ich bin herabgekommen, sie zu befreien. Und nun komme, ich will dich nach Ägypten senden.

Diesen Moses, den sie verleugneten, da sie sprachen: Wer hat dich zum Vorsteher und Richter gesetzt? diesen sandte Gott als Oberhaupt und Erretter durch die Hand des Engels, der ihm im Dornbusche erschienen war.

Dieser führte sie heraus, unter Wundern und Zeichen, die er tat, im Lande Ägypten, und im roten Meere, und in der Wüste vierzig Jahre hindurch.

Israel rebelliert gegen Gott

Dies ist jener Moses, der zu den Kindern Israels sprach: Einen Propheten wird euch Gott aus euren Brüdern erwecken, wie mich; diesen sollet ihr hören!

Dieser ist es, der bei der Gemeinde in der Wüste mit dem Engel, der zu ihm auf dem Berge Sina redete, und mit unsern Vätern war; der Worte des Lebens empfing, um sie uns zu geben;

(2. Mose 32,1-35; 5. Mose 9,7-29; Amos 5,16-27)

dem unsere Väter nicht gehorsam sein wollten, sondern sie verwarfen ihn, und wandten ihre Herzen nach Ägypten hin,

indem sie zu Aaron sprachen: Mache uns Götter, die vor uns hergehen sollen; denn dieser Moses, der uns aus dem Lande Ägypten geführt hat, wir wissen nicht, was mit ihm geschehen ist.

Und sie machten ein Kalb in jenen Tagen, und brachten dem Götzenbilde ein Opfer dar, und erfreuten sich an den Gebilden ihrer Hände.

Gott aber wandte sich, und gab sie preis, dem Heere des Himmels zu dienen, wie geschrieben steht im Buche der Propheten: Habt ihr mir etwa Schlachtopfer und Gaben dargebracht die vierzig Jahre hindurch in der Wüste, Haus Israel?

Ihr habt ja das Zelt des Moloch aufgenommen, und das Gestirn eures Gottes Rempham, die Bilder, welche ihr gemacht, sie anzubeten. Und ich werde euch wegführen bis über Babylon hinaus.

Gottes wahres Tabernakel

(2. Mose 40,1-33; Hebräer 9,1-10)

Das Zelt des Zeugnisses war mit unsern Vätern in der Wüste, wie Gott es ihnen verordnet hatte, da er zu Moses sprach, er solle es nach dem Vorbilde machen, welches er gesehen hatte.

Dieses brachten auch unsere Väter, die es überkommen hatten, mit Jesus in das Besitztum der Heiden, die Gott austrieb vor dem Angesichte unserer Väter, bis zu den Tagen Davids.

Dieser fand Gnade vor Gott, und bat, dass er eine Wohnung finden möchte für den Gott Jakobs.

Salomon aber baute ihm ein Haus.

Allein der Höchste wohnt nicht in Gebäuden, von Menschen Händen gemacht, wie der Prophet sagt:

„Der Himmel ist mein Thron, die Erde aber der Schemel meiner Füße. Welches Haus werdet ihr mir bauen? spricht der Herr; oder welches ist die Stätte meiner Ruhe?

Hat nicht meine Hand dieses alles gemacht?“

Israel widersetzt sich dem Heiligen Geist

Ihr Halsstarrigen und Unbeschnittenen an Herz und Ohren, ihr widerstehet allezeit dem Heiligen Geiste; wie eure Väter, so auch ihr!

Welchen der Propheten haben eure Väter nicht verfolgt? Sie haben sie getötet, die da weissagten von der Ankunft des Gerechten, dessen Verräter und Mörder ihr nun geworden seid,

die ihr das Gesetz durch die Dienstleistung der Engel empfangen, aber nicht bewahrt habt.

Stephanus der Märtyrer

Als sie dies hörten, ergrimmten sie in ihren Herzen, und knirschten mit den Zähnen wider ihn.

Er aber voll des Heiligen Geistes, blickte gen Himmel, und sah die Herrlichkeit Gottes, und Jesus zur Rechten Gottes stehen,

und sprach: Sehet, ich sehe die Himmel offen, und den Menschensohn zur Rechten Gottes stehend.

Sie aber mit lauter Stimme aufschreiend, hielten ihre Ohren zu, und stürzten einmütig auf ihn los.

Und nachdem sie ihn zur Stadt hinausgeschleppt, steinigten sie ihn, und die Zeugen legten ihre Kleider zu den Füßen eines jungen Mannes nieder, der Saulus hieß.

Und sie steinigten den Stephanus, welcher betete, und sprach: Herr Jesus, nimm meinen Geist auf!

Und auf die Kniee fallend, rief er mit lauter Stimme, und sprach: Herr, rechne ihnen diese Sünde nicht an! Und als er dies gesagt hatte, entschlief er im Herrn. Saulus aber willigte mit ein in seinen Tod.
