- Kapitel 12 -

(2 Chronicles 10:1–15)

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king

And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)

Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,

Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.

And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?

And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.

And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.

Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.

And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,

And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

The Kingdom Divided

(2 Chronicles 10:16–19)

So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.

Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.

Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

Shemaiah’s Prophecy

(2 Chronicles 11:1–4)

And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.

And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.

But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.

Jeroboam’s Idolatry

Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.

And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.

If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.

Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.

And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.

Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.

And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.

And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.

Der Aufstand gegen Rehabeam

(2. Chronik 10,1-15)

Roboam aber kam nach Sichem, denn dort hatte sich ganz Israel versammelt, ihn zum Könige einzusetzen.

Als aber Jeroboam, der Sohn Nabats, der noch flüchtig vor dem Könige Salomon in Ägypten weilte, von dessen Tode hörte, kehrte er aus Ägypten zurück.

Sie hatten nämlich hingesandt und ihn rufen lassen, also kam Jeroboam und das ganze Volk Israel und sie redeten zu Roboam und sagten:

Dein Vater hat uns ein sehr hartes Joch auferlegt; so mindere nun du die so harte Herrschaft deines Vaters und das so schwere Joch, das er uns auferlegt hat, ein wenig und wir wollen dir untergeben sein.

Da sprach er zu ihnen: Gehet auf drei Tage fort und kommet alsdann wieder zu mir! Als nun das Volk weggegangen war,

hielt der König Roboam mit den Ältesten Rat, welche seinem Vater Salomon gedient hatten, als er noch lebte, und sprach: Was ratet ihr mir, diesem Volk zu antworten?

Sie entgegneten ihm: Wenn du heute diesem Volke nachgibst und zu Willen bist und ihre Bitte willfährst und freundliche Worte zu ihnen redest, so werden sie dir auf immer untergeben sein.

Er aber verschmähte den Rat der Ältesten, den sie ihm gegeben, und wendete sich an die Jünglinge, welche mit ihm erzogen waren und vor ihm standen,

und sprach zu diesen: Was ratet ihr mir, diesem Volke zu antworten, das zu mir spricht: Erleichtere uns das Joch, das dein Vater uns auferlegt hat?

Da sprachen die Jünglinge, welche mit ihm erzogen waren, zu ihm: So musst du zu diesem Volke reden, die zu dir gesprochen und gesagt haben: Dein Vater hat uns mit schwerem Joche belastet, erleichtere du es uns; so musst du mit ihnen sprechen: Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als der Rücken meines Vaters!

Hat nun mein Vater euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt, so will ich zu eurem Joche noch hinzutun; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln geschlagen, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen schlagen.

Jeroboam also kam mit dem ganzen Volke zu Roboam am dritten Tage, wie der König gesprochen hatte, indem er sagte: Kommet am dritten Tage wieder zu mir!

Da gab der König dem Volke eine harte Antwort und ließ den Rat, den ihm die Ältesten gegeben hatten, außer acht

und redete zu ihnen nach dem Rate der Jünglinge und sprach: Mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch auferlegt, ich aber will zu euerm Joche noch hinzutun; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln geschlagen, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen schlagen.

So war der König dem Volke nicht zu Willen; denn der Herr hatte sich von ihm abgewendet, um sein Wort in Erfüllung gehen zu lassen, das er durch den Siloniter Ahias zu Jeroboam, dem Sohne Nabats, geredet hatte.

(2. Chronik 10,16-19)

Da nun das Volk sah, dass der König nicht auf sie hätte hören wollen, antwortete es ihm und sprach: Welchen Teil haben wir an David oder welches Erbe an dem Sohne Isais? Begib dich in deine Hütten, Israel! Nun siehe nach deinem Hause, David! Und Israel ging zu seinen Hütten heim.

Über die Söhne Israels aber, welche in den Städten Judas wohnten, herrschte Roboam.

Als nun der König Roboam Aduram aussandte, der über die Abgaben gesetzt war, steinigte ihn ganz Israel und er starb. Da stieg der König Roboam eilends auf einen Wagen und floh nach Jerusalem.

So fiel Israel vom Hause Davids ab, bis auf den heutigen Tag.

(2. Chronik 11,1-4)

Es geschah aber, als ganz Israel hörte, dass Jeroboam zurückgekehrt sei, sandten sie hin und ließen ihn vor ihre Versammlung berufen und machten ihn zum Könige über ganz Israel und niemand hielt es mit dem Hause Davids, außer allein der Stamm Juda.

Als Roboam nun nach Jerusalem kam, versammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, hundertundzwanzigtausend auserlesene kriegstüchtige Männer, um gegen das Haus Israel zu kämpfen und das Königtum wieder an Roboam, den Sohn Salomons zurückzubringen.

Aber das Wort des Herrn erging an Semeja, den Mann Gottes, also:

Sprich zu Roboam, dem Sohne Salomons, dem König von Juda, und zu dem ganzen Hause Juda und Benjamin und zu dem übrigen Volke und sage:

So spricht der Herr: Ihr sollt nicht hinziehen und sollt nicht gegen eure Brüder, die Söhne Israels, kämpfen! Ein jeder kehre in sein Haus zurück, denn von mir ist dies ausgegangen. Da hörten sie auf das Wort des Herrn und kehrten um von dem Zuge, wie der Herr ihnen geboten hatte.

Jerobeams goldene Kälber

Jeroboam aber baute Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim und wohnte daselbst, sodann zog er von dort aus und baute Phanuel.

Und Jeroboam sprach in seinem Herzen: Bald wird die Herrschaft wieder an das Haus Davids kommen;

wenn dieses Volk hinaufzieht, um im Hause des Herrn zu Jerusalem Opfer darzubringen, so wird das Herz dieses Volkes sich wieder seinem Herrn Roboam, dem Könige von Juda, zuwenden und sie werden mich töten und ihm wieder zufallen.

So dachte er sich denn einen Plan aus und machte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zu dem Volke: Ziehet nicht mehr nach Jerusalem hinauf! Siehe, da sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus dem Lande Ägypten hinausgeführt haben!

Und er stellte das eine in Bethel auf, das andere in Dan

und diese Tat ward Anlass zur Sünde, denn das Volk ging bis nach Dan hin, um das Kalb anzubeten.

Auch baute er Tempel auf Höhen und machte Leute aus den Geringsten des Volkes, die nicht zu den Söhnen Levis gehörten, zu Priestern.

Und er ordnete ein Fest an im achten Monate, am fünfzehnten Tage des Monats, ähnlich dem Feste, welches in Juda gefeiert ward, und trat an den Altar. Ebenso tat er in Bethel, um den Kälbern, die er gemacht hatte, Opfer darzubringen, und er bestellte Priester in Bethel für die Höhen, welche er errichtet hatte.

Und er trat zu dem Altar, den er in Bethel erbaut hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, welchen er in seinem Herzen erdacht hatte, und veranstaltete den Söhnen Israels ein Fest und trat an den Altar, um Räucherwerk anzuzünden.
