The Book of Tobit (Tobias)

- Kapitel 13 -

Tobias the father praises God, exhorting all Israel to do the same. Prophesies the restoration and better state of Jerusalem.

And so, the elder Tobit, opening his mouth, blessed the Lord, and he said: “O Lord, you are great in eternity and your kingdom is with all ages.(a)

For you scourge, and you save. You lead down to the grave, and you bring up again. And there is no one who can escape from your hand.(b)

Confess to the Lord, O sons of Israel, and praise him in the sight of the nations.

For, indeed, he has dispersed you among the Gentiles, who are ignorant of him, that you may proclaim his wonders, and that you may cause them to know that there is no other almighty God, except him.

He has chastised us because of our iniquities, and he will save us because of his mercy.

Therefore, look upon what he has done for us, and, with fear and trembling, confess to him. And extol the King of all ages with your works.

But as for me, I will confess him in the land of my captivity. For he has revealed his majesty within a sinful nation.

And so, be converted, you sinners, and do justice in the presence of God, believing that he will act in his mercy toward you.

But I and my soul will rejoice in him.

Bless the Lord, all you his elect. Keep days of rejoicing, and confess to him.

O Jerusalem, the city of God, the Lord has chastised you for the works of your hands.(c)

Confess to the Lord with your good things, and bless the God of all ages, so that he may rebuild his tabernacle in you, and he may recall all the captives to you, and you may be glad in all ages and forever.

You will shine with a splendid light, and all the ends of the earth will adore by you.

Nations from far away will come to you, bringing gifts. And in you, they shall adore the Lord, and they will hold your land in sanctification.

For they will invoke the Great Name in you.

Those who despise you will be cursed, and all those who blaspheme by you will be condemned, and those who build you up will be blessed.

But you will rejoice in your sons, because they will all be blessed, and they will be gathered together for the Lord.

Blessed are all those who love you and who rejoice in your peace.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, for the Lord our God has freed Jerusalem, his city, from every one of her tribulations.

Happy will I be, if any of my offspring will be left to see the brightness of Jerusalem.

The gates of Jerusalem will be built from sapphire and emerald, and all its walls will be surrounded with precious stones.

All its streets will be paved with stones, white and clean. And ‘Alleluia’ will be sung throughout its neighborhoods.

Blessed be the Lord, who has exalted it, and may he reign over it, forever and ever. Amen.”

Tobias, der Vater, lobt Gott und ermahnt ganz Israel, es ihm gleichzutun. Er prophezeit die Wiederherstellung und den besseren Zustand von Jerusalem

Der ältere Tobias aber tat seinen Mund auf, pries den Herrn und sprach: Groß bist du, o Herr! in Ewigkeit und in alle Ewigkeit währt deine Herrschaft.

Denn du schlägst und heilst, du führst zur Unterwelt hinab und wieder herauf und niemand kann deiner Hand entfliehen.

Preiset den Herrn, ihr Kinder Israels! Und lobet ihn vor dem Angesichte der Völker,

denn darum hat er euch unter die Völker zerstreut, welche ihn nicht kennen, damit ihr seine Wundertaten verkündet und jenen zu wissen tuet, dass kein anderer der allmächtige Gott ist als er.

Er hat uns um unserer Missetaten willen gezüchtigt und er wird uns um seiner Barmherzigkeit willen erlösen.

Sehet also, was er an uns getan, und preiset ihn mit Furcht und Zittern und erhebet den König der Ewigkeit durch euer Tun.

Ich aber will ihn preisen im Lande meiner Gefangenschaft, denn er hat seine Herrlichkeit an einem sündigen Volke erwiesen.

Bekehret euch daher, ihr Sünder! und übet Gerechtigkeit vor Gott und glaubet, dass er euch seine Barmherzigkeit erweisen wird.

Ich aber und meine Seele, wir wollen uns in ihm freuen.

Preiset den Herrn, ihr alle seine Auserwählten! feiert Freudentage und danket ihm.

Jerusalem, du Stadt Gottes! dich hat der Herr wegen der Werke deiner Hände gezüchtigt.

Lobsinge dem Herrn wegen deiner Güter und preise den ewigen Gott, dass er seine Wohnung wieder in dir aufbaue und alle Gefangenen zu dir zurückrufe und du dich freuest in alle Ewigkeit.

Du wirst in glänzendem Lichte erstrahlen und alle Grenzen der Erde werden dich verehren.

Die Völker werden aus der Ferne zu dir kommen und, Geschenke darbringend, den Herrn in dir anbeten und dein Land heilig halten,

denn sie werden den großen Namen in dir anrufen.

Verflucht werden sein, die dich verachten, und verdammt alle, die dich lästern; gesegnet aber werden sein, die dich aufbauen!

Du aber wirst dich deiner Kinder freuen, denn alle werden gesegnet und zu dem Herrn versammelt werden.

Selig sind alle, die dich lieben und welche sich deines Friedens freuen!

Meine Seele preise den Herrn, denn der Herr, unser Gott, hat Jerusalem, seine Stadt, von allen ihren Trübsalen befreit.

Selig werde ich sein, wenn Reste meiner Nachkommen da sein werden, um die Herrlichkeit Jerusalems zu schauen.

Die Tore Jerusalems werden aus Saphir und Smaragd gebaut werden und aus kostbarem Steine der ganze Umkreis seiner Mauern.

Mit glänzenden und reinen Steinen werden alle seine Straßen gepflastert sein, und auf seinen Gassen wird man Alleluja singen.

Gepriesen sei der Herr, der es erhöht hat, und seine Herrschaft über dasselbe währe von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Amen.
