- Kapitel 8 -

(Philippians 4:10–20)

And so we are making known to you, brothers, the grace of God that has been given in the churches of Macedonia.

For within a great experience of tribulation, they have had an abundance of joy, and their profound poverty has only increased the richness of their simplicity.(a)

And I bear witness to them, that they were willing to accept what was in accord with their ability, and even what was beyond their ability.

For they were begging us, with great exhortation, for the grace and the communication of the ministry that is with the saints.

And this is beyond what we had hoped, since they gave themselves, first of all to the Lord, and then also to us, through the will of God,(b)

so much so that we petitioned Titus, that in the same manner as he had begun, he would also complete in you this same grace.

But, just as in all things you abound in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all solicitude, and even more so in your charity toward us, so also may you abound in this grace.

I am speaking, not commanding. But through the solicitude of others, I approve of the good character of your charity.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that through his poverty, you might become rich.

And about this, I give my counsel. For this is useful to those of you who, only a year earlier, had just begun to act, or even to be willing to act.

So, truly now, accomplish this in deed, so that, in the same manner as your willing mind is prompted, you may also act, out of that which you have.

For when the will is prompted, it receives according to what that person has, not according to what that person does not have.

And it is not that others should be relieved, while you are troubled, but that there should be an equality.

In this present time, let your abundance supply their need, so that their abundance may also supply your need, in order that there may be an equality, just as it was written:

“He with more did not have too much; and he with less did not have too little.”

Titus Commended

(Titus 1:1–4)

But thanks be to God, who has granted to the heart of Titus, this same solicitude for you.

For certainly, he accepted the exhortation. But since he was more solicitous, he went to you of his own free will.

And we have even sent with him a brother whose praise accompanies the Gospel throughout all the churches.

And not only that, but he was also chosen by the churches to be a companion for our sojourn in this grace, which is ministered by us with our determined will, to the glory of the Lord.

So let us avoid this, lest anyone disparage us over the abundance that is ministered by us.

For we provide for what is good, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men.

And we have also sent with them our brother, whom we have proven to be frequently solicitous in many matters. But now there is a greater solicitousness, which is greatly entrusted to you;

and whether it concerns Titus, who is a companion to me and a helper to you, or whether it concerns our brothers, the Apostles of the churches, it is to the glory of Christ.

Therefore, in the sight of the churches, show them the proof of your charity and of our glorying about you.

Hervorragend im Geben

(Philipper 4,10-20)

Wir tun euch aber, Brüder! die Gnade Gottes kund, welche den Gemeinden Mazedoniens verliehen worden ist,

dass bei vieler Prüfung durch Trübsal ihre Freude übergroß war, und ihre tiefe Armut sich reich zeigte in der Fülle ihrer Einfalt;

denn nach Vermögen, ich bezeuge es ihnen, ja über Vermögen sind sie willfährig gewesen,

und haben uns mit vielem Zureden um die Gnade und die Teilnahme an der Hilfeleistung gegeben, welche für die Heiligen veranstaltet wird.

Und nicht nur wie wir gehofft hatten, sondern sich selbst gaben sie zuerst dem Herrn hin, dann uns durch den Willen Gottes;

so dass wir den Titus baten, er möchte, wie er angefangen, so auch dieses Liebeswerk unter euch vollenden.

Doch wie ihr in allen Dingen überreich seid, in Glauben, und in Wort, und in Erkenntnis, und allem Eifer, überdies auch in eurer Liebe zu uns, so sollt ihr auch in dieser Gnade euch auszeichnen.

Christus unser Vorbild

Nicht, als wollte ich befehlen, sage ich es, sondern um durch den Eifer anderer die Echtheit eurer Liebe zu bewähren.

Denn ihr kennet die Gnade unsers Herrn Jesus Christus, dass er um euretwillen arm geworden ist, da er reich war, damit ihr durch seine Armut reich würdet.

Und hierin gebe ich euch einen Rat; denn dies ist für euch nützlich, die ihr nicht nur mit dem Tun, sondern auch mit dem Wollen seit dem vorigen Jahre den Anfang gemacht habt;

jetzt aber führet es auch durch die Tat zu Ende, damit, wie die Bereitwilligkeit des Wollens da ist, so auch das Vollbringen da sei, nach dem Maße dessen, was ihr habt.

Denn wenn der Wille bereit ist, so ist er nach dem, was er hat, wohlgefällig, nicht nach dem, was er nicht hat.

Denn es sollen andere nicht Behaglichkeit, ihr aber Bedrängnis haben, sondern es sei Gleichheit.

In der gegenwärtigen Zeit soll euer Überfluss ihrem Mangel abhelfen, damit auch ihr Überfluss eurem Mangel abhelfe, auf dass Gleichheit eintrete, wie geschrieben steht:

Wer vieles hat, hatte nicht Überfluss; und wer wenig, litt nicht Mangel.

Kollekte für die Heiligen in Judäa

(Titus 1,1-4)

Dank aber sei Gott, welcher denselben Eifer für euch Titus in das Herz gegeben hat;

denn die Aufforderung zwar hat er angenommen, ja, da er eifervoller war, ist er aus freiem Willen zu euch gereist.

Wir haben auch mit ihm den Bruder gesandt, dessen Lob in Sache des Evangeliums bei allen Gemeinden ist.

Nicht allein aber dies, sondern er ist auch von den Gemeinden als unser Reisegefährte zu diesem Liebeswerke abgeordnet worden, das von uns zur Ehre des Herrn und unserem bestimmten Willen gemäß besorgt wird,

um zu verhüten, dass nicht jemand uns wegen dieser reichen Gabe, die von uns vermittelt wird, übel nachrede;

denn wir tragen Sorge für das Gute nicht allein vor Gott, sondern auch vor den Menschen.

Wir haben aber mit ihnen auch unsern Bruder gesandt, dessen Eifer wir oft in vielen Dingen erprobt haben, und der jetzt in großem Zutrauen zu euch noch viel eifriger ist.

Gilt es Titus: er ist mein Gefährte und Mitarbeiter bei euch, oder unsere Brüder: sie sind die Abgesandten der Gemeinde, Christi Ehre.

Gebet denn den Erweis eurer Liebe und unsers Rühmens über euch gegen die im Angesichte der Gemeinden kund.
