- Kapitel 3 -

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we would be called, and would become, the sons of God. Because of this, the world does not know us, for it did not know him.

Most beloved, we are now the sons of God. But what we shall be then has not yet appeared. We know that when he does appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

And everyone who holds this hope in him, keeps himself holy, just as he also is holy.

Everyone who commits a sin, also commits iniquity. For sin is iniquity.(a)

And you know that he appeared in order that he might take away our sins. For in him there is no sin.

Everyone who abides in him does not sin. For whoever sins has not seen him, and has not known him.(b)

Little sons, let no one deceive you. Whoever does justice is just, even as he also is just.

Whoever commits sin is of the devil. For the devil sins from the beginning. For this reason, the Son of God appeared, so that he might eradicate the works of the devil.

All those who have been born of God do not commit sin. For the offspring of God abides in them, and he is not able to sin, because he was born of God.(c)

In this way, the sons of God are made manifest, and also the sons of the devil. Everyone who is not just, is not of God, as also anyone who does not love his brother.

Love One Another

(John 13:31–35; Romans 12:9–13)

For this is the announcement that you heard from the beginning: that you should love one another.

Do not be like Cain, who was of the evil one, and who killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were wicked, but his brother’s works were just.

If the world hates you, brothers, do not be surprised.

We know that we have passed from death to life. For we love as brothers. Whoever does not love, abides in death.

Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding within him.

We know the love of God in this way: because he laid down his life for us. And so, we must lay down our lives for our brothers.

Whoever possesses the goods of this world, and sees his brother to be in need, and yet closes his heart to him: in what way does the love of God abide in him?

My little sons, let us not love in words only, but in works and in truth.

In this way, we will know that we are of the truth, and we will commend our hearts in his sight.

For even if our heart reproaches us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows all things.

Most beloved, if our heart does not reproach us, we can have confidence toward God;

and whatever we shall request of him, we shall receive from him. For we keep his commandments, and we do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

And those who keep his commandments abide in him, and he in them. And we know that he abides in us by this: by the Spirit, whom he has given to us.(e)

Sehet, welche Liebe uns der Vater erwiesen hat, dass wir Kinder Gottes heißen sollen und sind. Darum erkennt die Welt uns nicht, weil sie ihn nicht erkannt hat.

Geliebte! jetzt sind wir Kinder Gottes, aber noch ward es nicht offenbar, was wir sein werden. Wir wissen, dass, wenn er sich offenbart, wir ihm ähnlich sein werden, weil wir ihn schauen werden, so wie er ist.

Und jeder, der diese Hoffnung auf ihn hat, heiligt sich, sowie auch er heilig ist.

Die Sünde und das Kind Gottes

Jeder, der die Sünde tut, tut auch die Gesetzwidrigkeit, und die Sünde ist Gesetzwidrigkeit.

Und ihr wisset, dass er erschienen ist, um unsere Sünden hinwegzunehmen, und in ihm ist keine Sünde.

Keiner, der in ihm bleibt, sündigt; und jeder, der sündigt, hat ihn nicht gesehen, noch ihn erkannt.

Kindlein! lasset euch von niemand verführen! Wer die Gerechtigkeit tut, ist gerecht, gleichwie auch er gerecht ist.

Wer die Sünde tut, ist vom Teufel, denn der Teufel sündigt von Anfang an. Dazu ist der Sohn Gottes erschienen, dass er die Werke des Teufels zerstöre.

Jeder, der aus Gott geboren ist, begeht keine Sünde, denn sein Same bleibt in ihm, und er kann nicht sündigen, denn er ist aus Gott geboren.

Der Imperativ der Liebe

Daran sind die Kinder Gottes und die Kinder des Teufels offenbar. Jeder, der nicht gerecht ist, ist nicht aus Gott, so auch, wer seinen Bruder nicht liebt;

(Johannes 13,31-35; Römer 12,9-13)

denn dies ist die Verkündigung, welche ihr von Anfang an gehört habt, dass ihr einander lieben sollt.

Nicht wie Kain, der aus dem Bösen war und seinen Bruder erschlug! Und weshalb erschlug er ihn? Weil seine Werke böse waren, die seines Bruders aber gerecht.

Wundert euch nicht, Brüder! wenn euch die Welt hasset.

Wir wissen, dass wir aus dem Tode in das Leben übergegangen sind, weil wir die Brüder lieben. Wer nicht liebt, bleibt im Tode.

Jeder, der seinen Bruder hasset, ist ein Mörder. Und ihr wisset, das kein Mörder das ewige Leben in sich bleibend hat.

Das Wirken der Liebe

Daran haben wir die Liebe Gottes erkannt, dass er sein Leben für uns dahingegeben hat; so müssen auch wir für die Brüder das Leben dahingeben.

Wer die Güter dieser Welt hat, und, wenn er seinen Bruder Not leiden sieht, sein Herz vor ihm verschließt, wie bleibt die Liebe Gottes in ihm?

Meine Kindlein! lasset uns nicht mit Worten noch mit der Zunge lieben, sondern in Tat und Wahrheit.

Daran erkennen wir, das wir aus der Wahrheit sind, und dadurch werden unsere Herzen vor seinem Angesichte sich beruhigen,

dass, wenn uns unser Herz anklagt, Gott größer ist als unser Herz und alles weiß.

Geliebte! wenn unser Herz uns nicht anklagt, so haben wir Zuversicht zu Gott,

und werden, um was wir nur bitten, von ihm erlangen, weil wir seine Gebote halten und das tun, was vor ihm wohlgefällig ist.

Und dies ist sein Gebot: Dass wir an den Namen seines Sohnes Jesus Christus glauben, und einander lieben sollen, wie er uns das Gebot gegeben hat.

Der Geist der Wahrheit und der Geist des Irrtums

Und wer seine Gebote hält, bleibt in ihm, und er in ihm; und daran erkennen wir, dass er in uns bleibt, an dem Geiste, den er uns gegeben hat.
